Runaway

Robbie and I walked to the meeting together, he wasn't fazed by it, but I was really nervous. Sat around a table was Tungi, Sarah and an older man called Mac. We sat down opposite them and waited for them to start speaking. Mac started. "You have both been accused of attacking two of our community members, forcing entry into a room, and stopping a mating from happening. Do either one of you deny these accusations?" Robbie stood up, "I deny the accusations for the both of us. We went to Richards room to find out why he had rejected my sister....HIS MATE. When we got there he was trying to mate with another girl who he had told was his mate, lying to her, as she was under the age of 18 and wouldn't feel the mating bond. I got angry and attacked Richard, Gwen tried to stop me and accidentally pushed the girl over. Gwen didn't do anything apart from try to stop me." Robbie sat back down, and the adults muttered between themselves. Mac spoke again, "Richard will be brought before us to answer to his crime, but you two will be punished for forcing your way into a room and attacking a member. We believe the girls injury was caused by accident, so isn't punishable." Robbie jumped up this time, "But Gwen didn't do anything" he shouted, Mac looked at me, "Gwen is guilty by association, and will be punished in an equal way to you." I could feel a panic attack coming on, I didn't want to be punished, Dean had punished me. What if their punishments were as bad as his? I couldn't breath, it felt like there was no air in the room. I started gasping for breath, tears streaming down my face, my heart beating rapidly. I felt strong arms go around my back and under my legs, I was aware that someone was carrying me, I couldn't see who through my tears, but the next thing I knew we were outside and I was breathing in the cool air. I was sat down on a bench, then I heard Gabe's voice over the sound of my pounding heart, " Gwen, you need to breath, take slow breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth, you need to slow your heart rate." I did as he said, and after about 5 minutes, my breathing was back to normal, and my heart rate had slowed down to it's normal pace. "Thank you Gabe" I said quietly, "Where is Robbie?" He looked at me and sighed, "Robbie has gone to start his punishment, I'm to take you when you are feeling better." I nodded. I had to get out of here, I couldn't be punished, I would rather die. I had no idea what kind of punishment they had planned for me. I had to leave. "Gabe please can you get me some water, I think I'll be OK after a drink" I pleaded, Gabe headed inside to get me some water, leaving me outside alone. "Rylie, I need you, we have to leave" I begged my Wolf as I got up and started running. I had shifted by the time we got out of the gate, and ran as fast as we could, putting as much distance between them and us as we possibly could. "Where are we going Gwen?" Rylie sounded concerned. "I don't know, just keep running, we're not safe back there" We ran for what felt like hours before we had to stop so Rylie could catch her breath. "I'm sorry Rylie, I made you run too far too fast" I apologised. Rylie didn't answer, she was busy looking for water and shelter from the sun. We walked at a steady pace until we found what looked like an abandoned stable. There was a water trough filled with rain water next to the stable, so Rylie went to it, lapping up the water thirsty. We then carefully and quietly sniffed at the stable, making sure there was nobody in there, it was empty apart from a few mice and a small scattering of old hay on the ground, this would do us for a shelter for now. We walked over to one of the darker corners and collapsed onto the thin layer of hay, promptly falling asleep. When we woke, it was dark. Very dark. We walked to the door and sniffed the air, there was nobody out there. There were no lights out here, no roads or cars, we were in total darkness which would be good for not being seen, but I couldn't help being scared in the pitch black wilderness. I had no idea where we were, or where we were heading to. I couldn't shift back as I had no clothes to wear after shifting without undressing earlier, my clothes were shredded and left miles behind. "Stop worrying Gwen, you forget how fast we are. If we see danger we can be miles away in minutes" Rylie comforted me. She was right, we have the power of speed, we could out run any danger we may face. Walking around in the dark, seeing through Rylie's eyes was amazing, everything was so clear and focused, it was like wearing night vision goggles and her ears picked up every single sound, even the small sounds of things like insects scurrying around. I felt Rylie lower herself to the ground, "what are you doing?" I questioned, "I'm hungry" She whispered, I looked to where she was looking, I could see a rabbit through some bushes in front if us, I gulped as realisation hit me. "Rylie, we can't eat that, it will be raw, and bloody and, well, just disgusting" Rylie laughed, "Well I'm hungry, I'm a wolf, and I hunt. You'll just have to close your eyes if you don't like it. Besides, you'll be thanking me later when your stomach is full." I knew she was right, and now I thought about it I could feel how hungry we both were. We slowly crept forward, keeping as low and quiet as possible, the rabbit was just ahead of us now, it hadn't heard us, we crept closer and closer until Rylie pounced from our position, snapping the rabbits neck in her jaws as she clamped on to it, successful in her hunt. I could instantly smell and taste the coppery taste of blood, and feel the fur on my tongue and feel the tiny bones being crushed by my teeth. "EWW!" I protested, "How can I taste it? it's in your mouth, not mine." Rylie howled with laughter, "No Gwen, it's OUR mouth. you sense everything that I sense, and I sense everything that you sense. Smells, tastes, sounds and so on, we can also feel each others emotions to a certain degree, had you not noticed this at all?" Rylie sounded quite offended at this, in fact she was right, I could feel that she was offended. "I can feel your guilt" She snapped at me, making me wince at her harshness. "I'm sorry Rylie, I genuinely didn't notice" I apologised, "So if I gave up eating meat altogether how would that make you feel?" I was genuinely curious, bit felt like winding her up a little too. " You wouldn't dare!" Rylie gasped, I giggled. "If you refused to feed me meat, I would hide right in the very back of your mind. I'd never talk to you or let my presence be shown. You would never shift again, and you would die an old shrivelled up EX she-wolf with nobody to love you" Rylie finished with a sarcastic laugh. I knew she was joking, Rylie would never leave me. "Harsh words puppy" I laughed back as Rylie tore her rabbit apart and ate every last bit of it. After Rylie had finished eating, and yes I admit I wasn't hungry anymore, we started walking along a trail that looked like it had been walked on a lot over the years, as it was very well warn. As we walked, we talked to each other, trying to come up with a plan, any kind of plan as to what we were going to do. "I could get a job, and maybe somewhere to live." I suggested, "you'll need clothes for that." Rylie laughed. I don't know if it was a coincidence, luck or magic, but as Rylie said that we found ourselves in front of a small bungalow. It was just there. There were no other buildings around, just this bungalow. "Weird " we said together. In the garden was a washing line, hanging on the washing line were clothes. We crept over to the clothes and quickly grabbed some jeans, a shirt and a jacket, on the floor there was a basket with shoes in. We rummaged through the basket and found a pair of black worker boots, that were a little bit big, but better than nothing, we darted around the back of a large shrub in the garden, and I quickly shifted and dressed. The jeans were too big, but a few rolls down at the waist and they fit well enough to stay up, the shirt was a man's white shirt, it was really big. I put it on and tied the front into a knot, and folded the sleeves up, then I put on the thin jacket, which actually fitted well. I put on the boots and laced them tightly so I wouldn't fall out of them. "Well I guess I won't be winning any super model competitions, but at least I can now walk around without the worry of being arrested for indecent exposure" I laughed. Authors note.
