My Prison

Blip and I lay on the mattress as I read Little Women aloud to him. It had become his favorite book and he chose it most every night aside from the picture books which he rather enjoyed. It had been 3 months and he was now the size of a turkey. He left regularly to hunt so I wasn't anxious about feeding him though I still shared with him every meal. He was my guard dog so to speak, and my best friend. A collision from someplace in the house made me freeze. I calmly shut the book and signaled for Blip to remain quiet by holding my finger to my lips. I strained my ears trying to hear anything. Sure enough, I heard footsteps downstairs and voices rising through the floor. I could sense the dark magic emitting off them before they even ascended the stairs. It was The Keepers. The Keepers were dark fae who exploited another fae until they completely depleted them of their magic. I had heard how potent they were but judging from their aura I could have never visualized they were this influential. The horror stories Nin had told me drifted through my mind and I shivered. "Get it together Aubrette!!" I chastised myself. Their boots stomped up the stairs and I listened as they tore every room apart. They could sense my aura and were desperately scouring for the source of the power they felt. I held Blip tightly to my chest, as they passed into the room with the hidden entrance. I knew my magic would be no contest for theirs. I didn't know how to harness my power let alone utilize it. It came only when I was pushed past my breaking point. After they obliterated the room and had not found me, I listened to their footsteps and grumbles going to the opposing room. The vacant room on the other side of the wall. Knock... Knock... Knock... Knocks sounded on the wall. They knew where I was. Their voices were now plain enough to make out their discussion. There was two of them. A man and a woman. "Tear the wall down. The origin of this power is behind there I can sense it!" The woman advised the man. I stood ready to go down protecting myself. Blip loomed beside me hissing at the wall in a defensive posture. An ax chopped through the wall. I could see the silver as it was jerked back though and plunged inside again. Chunks of wood flew from the wall and they resumed chopping over and over until at leas there w silence. I noticed a face appear in the hole they had created with the ax. Before I could make out their characteristics Blip soared at them with his talons extended. He cawed loudly as his talon slashed through the mans cheek and he yanked his head back out. "f*****g b***h has a Phoenix in there with her." The man roared. "Well don't just stand there Parker. Quit being a p***y. Get the wall down and we'll handle the Phoenix when the time comes." The woman instructed him. She was the one in control of the two. She called the shots and he followed her every order. The ax continued assaulting the wall. I moved the piece of wood from the crawl space and shuffled through into the closet while they were occupied with the wall. Blip pursued me as I quietly made my way out of the bedroom and began descending the steps until I was jerked back by my long hair. My head snapped back and I gasped my hand going to my head to withdraw my hair from whoever had it. "I got the b***h Parker!" The woman dubbed. Blip turned screeching and charged her. I watched horrified as she produced a fireball and hurled it at him knocking him out. He plummeted to the ground with a loud thud. The man ran down the stairs and peeked over at him. "Leave him be. Others will come if we have any part of him with us." She instructed the man. "Let's go. We got what we came for. We have to hurry before others get here" she declared from behind me still gripping my hair. The man waved his hands in a circle and a portal emerged in the living room. He stepped through as the woman shoved me down the stairs and we followed. I stumbled as she shoved me through. Regaining my equilibrium I looked around and found myself encircled by dense forest. The man closed the portal and the woman gave me another push forward. I began walking. "She's going to last us a while, Silva." The man laughed. 'Parker we must preserve this one. Remember this last time you got frugal!" She admonished him. "I feel her power though. She has so much." He pleaded. "And we will ration it. No argument." She barked back. "Do you have any family girl?" She shoved me in the back. "No ma'am," I answered not wanting her to know anything about my life. "Do you have mates?" She questioned and I decided maybe if I told her who my mates were she would let me go. "Yes. Luca, Brecclan, and Nikolai.!" I responded knowing I only need say their first names. When those three names were said together everyone understood who was being talked about. The woman halted making my head snap back. She yanked my wrist up and pulled up my sleeve to look at my branding. "What should we do Silva?" The man asked panicking. "Why aren't you with them?" She inquired of me. "I have been running from them," I answered truthfully. "Looks like the girl is cleverer than she looks." She laughed. "We'll have to get Sumba to produce a veil to shield her location from them or else we'll be in for a world of hurting when they come to find her," Parker notified Silva. "Get her back to the cabin quickly Parker." Silva told him as her eyes inspected the forest around us. I yelped surprised when Parker picked me up and tossed me over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes. I snarled when his hand connected with my ass hard. He chuckled loudly "I'm going to have fun with this one Silva." I raised my head trying to look around and Silva looked at me grinning, her black teeth on display. "You're in for a treat. My brother has taken an appreciation for you." She cracked up substantiating my apprehensions. They sprinted through the forest as if they had memorized it. They understood every path, every rock, and every tree. I rubbed my wrist were I had been imprinted on my 18th birthday by our unique symbol given only to us by the Goddess herself. My fingers traced the symbol along with all our names. I found myself yearning for a bond I was terrified of. Longing to be adored and acknowledged by my mates. Dreaming to lie beside them and have them hold me feeling secure and safeguarded in their arms. I caught myself wishing they were here. That they would come to locate me and take me home. I shook the thoughts from my head. I knew Brecclan’s castle was in this forest and the nigher I came to it the more I would yearn for them. The more my bond would cry out to them. They would not just sense me but they would sense my magic and our bond. All of which would bring them straight to me as long as they didn’t combat it and that very thought sent chills down my spine. Parker lugged me for a distance an then exhausted he finally sat me down. I was yanked and drug through the forest until we reach a a escarpment. I looked around confused until Parker pulled back a thick blanket of vines and thrust a boulder aside uncovering a cave. Claustrophobia threatened to suffocate me as I looked at the whole filled with nothing but darkness, but I shoved it to the side. As soon as I was hauled over the entry of the cave I no longer could sense my magic. It was as if there was an a vacant void inside me that screamed to be replenished. A sob evaded my lips as fear struck me like a boulder. Silva giggled and thrust me forward, "What’s wrong girly? Lose something?” her voice was like nails on a chalkboard, Shrieking but nasally. Silva could be a stunning woman if she bothered to ever bathe. She had hair as ebony as a raven that held shades of blue and purple. Her eyes were as opaque as coal with the same whirls of blue and purple throughout them. She had elevated cheekbones and a straight pointy nose that sat above a top narrow lip. Her bottom was fuller than her top and her chin had a small dimple in the center. Her skin was creamy and tints of purple and blue shaded beneath her lengthy eye lashes. Her teeth were decayed and some were missing no doubt from years of negligence. She and Parker resembled each other a lot which led me to believe they were somehow interconnected. Aside from both their raven black hair being matted and having decayed teeth, they both had the same metaphysical eyes and the same shaped lips with the dimple in their chin. Though Silva was short and petite Parker was lofty and broad. Were her voice was nasally his was serious and booming. She was clearly the leader of the two and Parker attended to every order she gave him without argument. Were Silva was obviously cruel and didn’t care to show it something told me that Parker could be downright vicious and I was frightened of him. I knew he would try to violate me in ways that would traumatize and shatter me forever if I didn’t find a way out of here. As we emerged into the darkness Parker thrust the boulder back into its place. The final booming sound of the boulder resolving felt as if it was my life punishment being handed down to me. I couldn’t see anything but darkness until Parker began to light two lanterns that hung on the all. He shoved one into my hands and I held it out in front of me as I followed Parker through a maze of tunnels and caverns. I would never be able to uncover my way back out. I saw a light gleaming from a an immense opening and Silva propelled me forward rushing me as we approached what I guessed was there dwelling. My prison. The smell of beef stew hit my nostrils and my stomach bellowed loudly. "You’ll eat when you’ve earned it.” Silva smirked. The cave opened up into a an enormous cavern. It was warm and there was makeshift furniture dispersed about.” Put her in her room.” Silva thrust me toward Parker and he snatched my upper arm tightly. As I was being yanked along I caught a glimpse of an elderly woman with salt and pepper-colored hair sitting in front of a fire stirring a pot above it. She glanced back at me and I froze as I felt her enter my mind. I tried to put a wall up but she broke through them one by one as she scoured every memory, every thought I’d ever had. Once she pulled out she looked frantic. Her lips curled back showing pointed teeth that compared with a sharks, her bright green eyes held hatred yet I could have sworn I had seen a an indication of apprehension that was quickly wiped away. She looked to Silva, "You brought their mate into my home?” she asked Silva as Parker and I watched them. Parker looked frightened of the woman. ” So what? Do you not feel the magic she holds? We won't have to track anyone for months with her.” She gestured toward me. ” You stupid girl. No amount of magic is going to help us when the trinity comes for their fourth. We all will die painfully and slowly for having held her here and fed from her.” The woman stood from her chair and kicked the pof if stew sending it splashing all over the floor of the cave. ” Calm down Sumba! Just cast a veil over her. They’ll never be able to navigate this cave anyway." Silva laughed. "A veil? You think a veil will quiet the bond created by the f*****g goddess herself? You know nothing. I will have nothing to do with her and when they come and you better believe they will, I will make sure they know who to punish.” Sumba growled at Silva before setting back in her chair. ” Get her to out of here!” Sumba roared and Parker instantly began pulling me again. Parker pulled me through a tunnel. There were wooden doors on either side. 3 on one side and 3 on the other. At the end was another door and Parker unlocked it dragging me inside. It was dark and frigid. I began to tremble as it seeped into bones. Without, my magic I couldn’t warm myself. I was a human.
