Chapter 3

Amelia POV



I stood there waiting for their reply. I was scared of their response because Luna Ava called the Beta to a corner. I couldn’t hear what they were saying but I didn’t know where the feeling came from. I just couldn’t afford to lose him. If they allowed me I would make sure to save his life.

“So we’ve concluded that we will allow you to do that as Doctor Frank prepares you” the Luna said. But there was something that baffled me. Since Alpha Damien is her husband she should have been crying or feeling sad about his situation. Instead she didn’t seem sorry not even dressed like someone mourning. Well maybe... I just shook it off. I didn’t want to think about things I didn’t know.

“What do you call your name again?” someone said behind me. I thought it was Doctor Frank but it was the Beta.

I turned back shivering as I couldn’t look at his face. He was so calm and handsome incomparable. I must say he seemed more reserved and handsome than Alpha Damien. He extended his hand to me. “I’m Amelia. I’m Beta Lucas.”

“Nice to meet you Amelia. So I will be the one to stay with you in the room with Alpha Damien. Doctor Frank will take you there now” he said as he left.

Getting to where my mate was his eyes were closed and his body on the bed seemed lifeless. His body had been tapped in various parts to pass medicine and water through him. I prayed he would heal quickly. Doctor Frank’s face showed that he wasn’t happy. He must have been looking at me a stranger wanting to perform the perfect work they didn’t wait to learn during their training. I moved closer to Damien and my mate sniffed.

“What Ami?”

“He will accept you” Ami said.

“Shut up. I’m not ready for the mating bond now. And the fact is he has a wife. He already has his Luna and the woman is someone harsh. I wouldn’t risk your life and mine for such a thing.”

“Huh” Ami said but I knew she felt disappointed. I settled onto the table as Doctor Frank set up the X-ray machine. While he worked I watched Damien. He had a calm and serene face. I placed the X-ray first on his stomach. I could see where he was injured inside. I watched his face again. I couldn’t take my eyes off him. He seemed to have a charming face even as it focused on me but seemed lifeless. I made sure to treat the stomach wound making him feel a little relaxed. His wolf seemed to feel it too. I moved to his legs and then back to his stomach. I focused on my work and when his eyes opened it didn’t even surprise me. He must have a very strong wolf that is able to heal him.

I continued what I was doing not letting his face distract me. Damien smiled. He focused on me and when I noticed I quickly took an excuse to raise my hands.

I began washing the blood off his leg laying a wet cloth over the bloody area carefully so I didn’t tug on his bones that were still jutting out. His body was covered with caked blood guts and bits of bone just as I thought it would be. Under the teakwood scent he smelled like war and death. It was good practice for me learning how to ignore the smell of battle while working. I didn’t get this kind of training at the university.

Finally I finished the surgery and the only thing he did was open his eyes. He could see me but couldn’t speak.

“So are you through with everything now? Would you like to take care of yourself?” Beta Lucas said. He didn’t even care about the Alpha first but about me. “No thank you. I’m good. I’m just a stranger and I have a place I’m going after leaving here.”

“Oh that is good.” Then Doctor Frank came into the room to drop what I had asked him to bring. He just dropped it on the table and left. He didn’t even ask what I had done. His face still remained the same, angry.

Then Luna Ava came into the room and her presence made my heart seize.

“Amelia Doctor Frank told me that you are through?”

“Yes ma’am. I just finished the surgery. In the next twenty-four hours he should be active talking or responding more than before.”

“Oh wow that’s good. Do you mind if I ask my warriors to take you to your destination?” she said. But I hadn’t even said I was leaving before she told me to leave. What would I say now to make me stay a bit longer at least to tell Alpha Damien that I’m his mate?

“Don’t worry Luna Ava. I have a small car. I should be going now right?” I asked again. Then when she opened her mouth to respond a voice came from the bed.

“I will need you Amelia. Please don’t allow her to leave.” Looking back it was Alpha Damien.
