Damine POV
I can’t believe that I could end up in a situation where I wouldn’t even survive a day. I was fighting with Alpha Samon the alpha of the Darkmoon pack when one of his warriors shot me with an arrow from behind. I was weak and couldn’t move anymore. After two arrows I went down and pretended to be dead. Once they left I managed to crawl around the pack. But in that pain I began to feel myself healing little by little. That’s when I caught the scent of my mate.
I have been living in a world of deceit for over ten years trapped in a marriage that doesn’t have even a hint of love. I’ve been searching for my mate since fifteen years ago and now I saw her, in the darkest moment of my life. She saved me. She rescued me. I should have died but when she touched me it was as if her body carried a healing spirit. I felt a little healed and after she performed the surgery I felt completely healed.
I have never seen anyone like her before in my life. And there she was standing about to leave. This would not be possible. I overheard Ava telling her to leave. Meanwhile I knew how she was feeling, just because she helped me she had now become Ava’s rival. I know Ava and I know what she can do.
“Damine you should be resting and not worrying about how we’ll plan this okay?” she said moving closer to me as she patted my forehead with a kiss. But if those plans had been working for a long time they wouldn’t work this time around.
I called Lucas my beta. “Please do you still want me alive?” I asked first. Lucas nodded.
“If so don’t allow the girl to leave the pack. You can keep her somewhere safe. I need to thank her for saving my life. Do you understand?”
“Yes Master” Lucas replied.
I trust Lucas. He knows how to carry out the plans without me.
Ava is a strong woman who doesn’t care about my existence. I’ve heard it many times that if a wife is in a position of power or wealth greater than her husband she won’t respect him anymore. The same happened with her.
Well her father was our former alpha and didn’t want the alphaship to leave their lineage so he appointed his daughter and told her to find an alpha to run the pack. I thought I was lucky then but that was before she revealed her true colors. For fifteen years of marriage we barely had s*x twice a year. She always had excuses and she never cared. People just see me as an alpha thinking I control everything but she controls most things and never cares whether I agree or not. After all, her father controls the throne.
We appeared as the perfect picture of an alpha and luna in people's minds but I would be lying to myself if I claimed otherwise. Our marriage is only for appearances, nothing more nothing less.
I watched Beta Lucas leave the hospital room and I could feel my body stronger than before. I couldn’t even explain it, maybe she had injected something healing into my stomach? It felt as if I had been reborn. This is why I cannot allow her to leave. Though I’m not in full control for now I trust Lucas. I could feel how my wolf Jar was overjoyed, he couldn’t even wait to mate with her.
“Alpha” the doctor snapped me out of my thoughts interrupting my imagination about how our mating ceremony would unfold.
“Doctor Frank thank you for saving me” I said sarcastically knowing fully well he wasn’t the one who saved me. But I wanted to indulge his need to praise himself.
“Yes yes Alpha I tried everything. I’m the one who did eighty percent of the work. Amelia’s part was just twenty percent but you were sleeping while I was working” he said smugly.
I nodded as if everything he said was true. This is exactly why Frank wouldn’t last in this pack,he is useless and there have been many complaints about him. During the last war, five of my warriors died because after they were brought to him he mistakenly gave them the wrong treatment. It’s time for him to retire. My mate will take over. After all he has spent over twenty years here,it’s time.
“Well thank you. Do you have anything else to say?” I asked him. Even just looking at him I knew he wasn’t confident about what he was saying. Just an old man still fooling himself. I reserved my comment for another day, if I said anything now he might inject me with something deadly and I don’t want to die now. Since I don’t have much strength left I should just let his lies pass.
“Yes Alpha that’s all I came to say, to remind you that if not for me you would’ve been dead” he added.
I nodded but in my heart I thought God forbid, it’s you who will die in the prime of your days.
“Yes amen” Jar replied.
I watched Frank leave and then Lucas entered closing the door behind him.
“Lucas” I called out. “I hope she is safe?” But I noticed the expression on Lucas’s face change.
“What happened Lucas? What’s wrong with her?” I pressed.
“Yes Alpha. She keeps insisting she needs to save her mother, that she’s heading to the Darkmoon pack.”
My heart clenched at the mention of the Darkmoon pack. Memories of what Samon did to me came rushing back. He caused all of this.
The pack’s war is still raging and I can’t afford to lose her. “Lucas!” I called.
“Can you remove this restraint and the injection in my body? I’m healed. Let me go and talk to her.”
“Alpha this isn’t the right move. She’s just a girl Alpha. She only saved you. In fact she’s a stranger, she came from our enemy pack. Or… is there something you’re not telling me Alpha?”
I cleared my throat. Though it was hard to say I felt it wasn’t wrong for him to know the truth. “The girl is my destined mate. I need to protect her.”
“What? Do you mean it?” Lucas asked shocked.
“Yes Lucas. I wouldn’t lie to you about this. Ava must not know about her. Let’s keep this between us. Deal?”
“Yes Alpha. Deal” Lucas agreed.
I watched as he removed all the restraints and injections from my body. I felt a surge of strength I hadn’t felt before, a strange energy coursed through me as soon as the surgery was finished. I could still smell her scent and I knew she was still nearby.
“Where did you leave her?” I asked.
“I left her in her car. I told her to wait so I could inform you and see if you would allow her to leave.”
“Oh that’s good. Take me there. What about Ava?”
“Ava has returned to the pack house. She has a meeting with the elders.”
“Good. Let’s do this Lucas.”
