The both kings sat in the grand dining hall to have their meal.

King Damien expressed his concerns about the increasing threats from neighboring kingdoms and the need for stronger security measures. King Morse listened intently, nodding occasionally as he considered the implications for his own kingdom.

“We must ensure that our borders are well-guarded and our defenses are fortified,” King Damien urged. “The safety of our people depends on it.”

As the sumptuous feast was served, King Morse, continued the conversation by expressing his concerns about the increasing threats posed by neighboring kingdoms and internal issues faced within his own kingdom. He spoke of reports detailing suspicious activities along the borders and the growing unease among the citizens.

“I fear that our kingdom is facing serious challenges to its security,” King Morse stated with a furrowed brow. “The recent incursions by rival factions and the rise of unagreeable voices within our walls have left me deeply troubled. We must devise a comprehensive plan to safeguard our lands and protect our people.”

king Damien nodded thoughtfully as he listened to King Morse’s apprehensions. “I share your concerns, king morse” he replied,

his voice resonating with empathy. “The security of our kingdoms is paramount, and we must act decisively to address these threats. However, we must also make sure that by fortifying our defences we do not end up creating problems with our neighbours.

We cannot afford to underestimate the gravity of these challenges,” King Morse asserted, his gaze unwavering. “Our people look to us for protection and guidance, and it is our duty to ensure that they can live without fear of external aggression or internal conflict.”

King Damien nodded in agreement, his expression reflecting a steely resolve. “Indeed, we must take serious measures to bolster our defenses while also exploring avenues for peaceful resolution with neighboring kingdoms,” he remarked. “It is essential that we strike a balance between strength and diplomacy in safeguarding our kingdoms.”

"What we should do is send a delegation of high ranking officials over to the neighbouring kingdoms of HAWI, HALUT and KAJIJI, they must know that we are aware of their plans and we will not take kindly to anymore attempts by them to destabilise our kingdoms".

" Are you sure that will be enough?, I would have preferred we use a more aggressive method, show them that we are still capable of bringing death and destruction to their doorstep if they give us a reason to ". King Morse was in no mood for jokes.

" trust me they do know what we are capable of, a little gentle warning won't do that much of a harm to our reputation I assure you. " Damien pressed on.

" Fine, I will ask my son crown prince Devin to lead the delegation from my kingdom here and you can choose from your end ".

"Agreed ". they both raised their wine cups to it.

"Forgive me for intruding in your private affairs king Morse, however I do have a little favour that I might need to ask from you" . Damien said.

"Ask away boy, you might be king of a kingdom, but I watched you grow up in front of me, you'll always be like a son to me. Tell me what it is you want from me ?". king Morse asked.

" It's about princess Selena your daughter".

King Damien spoke with sincerity and conviction.

“Your Majesty, I come before you as a friend and ally. I understand the importance of strategic alliances through marriage, but I implore you to consider Princess Selena’s wishes in this matter. She is a kind-hearted and intelligent young woman who deserves a partner who will cherish her for who she is, not for the wealth or power she may bring.”

King Morse, listened attentively but remained steadfast in his beliefs. “My dear boy, I value our alliance greatly, but the future of our kingdoms cannot be left to chance. The suitors seeking for Princess Selena’s hand are powerful and influential, and their proposals offer significant advantages for my kingdom . It is my duty to ensure the prosperity and security of my people, even if it means making difficult decisions.”

Undeterred, King Damien continued to plead his case on behalf of the princess. “I do not dispute the importance of securing our kingdom's futures, but I urge you to consider the happiness of your daughter in this matter. Princess Selena is not a mere pawn in a political game; she is a beloved daughter who deserves a say in her own destiny. Please, allow her voice to be heard in this crucial decision.”

King Morse's eyes hardened and he scoffed dismissively, his eyes betraying a hint of amusement at King Damien’s plea. “Ah, King Damien, always the sentimental one. But you see, I have made my decision. My daughter’s marriage will bring prosperity to my kingdom, and I will not be swayed by emotional appeals.”

Undeterred, King Damien continued, “Surely you understand the importance of love and happiness in a marriage. Your daughter deserves the chance to find true companionship and affection.”

King Morse’s expression hardened as he retorted, “Love is a luxury that only the privileged can afford. My duty as a king is to secure the future of my kingdom through beneficial alliances. Princess Selena's marriage will serve that purpose.”

Frustrated by King Morse’s resolve, King Damien’s composure wavered as he spoke passionately, “Is wealth and power all that matters to you? Have you forgotten what it means to be a father? To see your child happy and fulfilled?”

The room fell silent as the weight of King Damien’s words hung in the air. The courtiers exchanged uneasy glances while King Morse remained unmoved.

Finally, with a steely resolve in his voice, King Damien concluded, “I will not stand idly and allow sentiments and emotions ruin everything I have worked for all my life, Selena will finally contribute something meaningful to this kingdom through her marriage, I am ready to sacrifice her happiness if that is what it takes and I shall hear no more of this nonsense from you Damien"

With a final sip from his cup, he stands to leave the hall but not before adding “Your emotions blind you Damien, and I am greatly disappointed at that. Great kings are known for working with their brains and not their hearts. You may choose to prioritize emotions over practicality, but I will not yield. Princess Selena will marry according to my decree.”
