Chapter 4

1868 Words
Gina almost slept late last night because she had been texting Dave. She and Dave had been texting each other all day like Dave didn't leave her years back. Gina didn't care, she felt like a teenager again. Gina had forgotten how to feel loved, she had also forgotten how to love herself. All these years she didn't want to believe in love, and sometimes it resulted in hookups and one-night stands. If a man had complimented her and had told her that they wanted to see her again she would shut them down. Dave was Gina's first love, they had been sweethearts since sophomore year in high school, they were a power couple and were labeled relationship goals. People even teased that they were going to get married and have kids that were just as beautiful as them. She thought of the idea and loved it, but when Dave ghosted her it vanished from her mind. Gina looked like a fool when she found out from his brother that Dave had traveled to Australia to be alone. Of course, Gina hung up and broke down in tears. She wasn't the kind of girl that was boy-crazy or anything like that. It was Dave, the love of her life. She couldn't stop loving him even though he ghosted her. She couldn't stop thinking of all the girls he had probably had s*x with back in Australia. She didn't want anyone to see her as a dumb pick-me girl who went back to her dumbass boyfriend. But then again, Gina grew so she didn't care what people thought of her. And she thought there was another side of the story. Maybe there was a reason Dave left without saying anything, there must have been a reason why he left and there was a reason why he came back. Gina was in her office doing work as usual, but she got interrupted when her doors swung open. Her stepmother, Barbara had barged into her office. Gina could see Scott running after her. "I'm so sorry Gina, I told her you weren't having visitors, especially if it's her," Scott said and Gina had always admired Scott's fearlessness and strength, to Gina he was more than just a personal assistant, he was a friend. "Regina, is this how you're going to let your servant talk to me?" "First of all, he's not a slave he's my assistant, he helps me." Gina folded her arms. "And secondly, didn't I tell you not to come here again? I could call security on your ass." Barbara wasn't phased, in fact, she even put her hands on her waist and smiled at her. "I want to tell you something first." She said and Gina was about to protest but then she thought against it. She looked over at Scott, a signal to assure him that she was safe and if anything were to happen he knew what to do. He nodded and walked out of the room and closed the door. Barbara was beautiful, there was no doubt about that. She had long blonde hair, and green eyes, and she was a little bit plumpy. Gina had always despised her because although her father married her because of the love he had for her she married him because of the love she had for his money. Gina's dad had died from leukemia. If he didn't die from that, she wouldn't have ruled out Barbara as the number one suspect. "Make it fast please," Gina told Barbara who had an evil grin on her face. Gina tried to be brave, she was shaking inside. What if this lady brought a gun? Gina knew that Barbara knew there were loads of security outside but what if she didn't care and she just wanted the Green legacy destroyed? Gina was prepared for anything in this case. "I still want my fair share of the company." She said without shame. There it is. Gina thought. As much as she loved her father, she had always seen him as a gullible man, a man who was easily manipulated. Why couldn't he have just been single? Gina also wouldn't have minded if he was sleeping around. Why did he have to marry this gold-digging fowl? It had been years and this lady was still pestering her life. Gina took in a deep breath and then breathe out, she put on her best fake smile and tilted her head. "Barbara, how many times do I have to tell you." She leaned closer to her. This time Gina wasn't filled with fear she was annoyed. Barbara leaned closer to Gina as well. "How many times do I have to tell you no?" They're close to each other, they could smell each other's perfumes and feel each other's warm breaths. Gina could slap her stepmother's face right now, but she chose not to because she wasn't violent. "What're you gonna do? Send another death threat?" "I don't know what you're talking about." Her smile was still on her face. This time Gina laughed and picked up her phone. "Security." Barbara stood up straight, she still had that smile. "You won't hear the last of me." She turned around and walked out of the door. She dropped the telephone and she sighed. She didn't call anyone, she just did that to scare her and it worked. She jumped when her door swung open again but she relaxed when she saw it was just Scott, Scott Rogers being protective as always. "Are you okay?" He asked and Gina felt like that was either sarcasm or a rhetorical question. She didn't mean to show her fear in front of him, she couldn't help it. Maybe putting her woman power aside for five minutes wouldn't hurt anyone. "I've waited too long." She finally said. "That b***h is planning something big, and we have to stop her. Scott nodded in affirmation. He was always going to be by her side no matter what. And she knew that he knew that she knew that. "What do you want me to do?" He asked with a smile, he had been waiting a long time for this takedown. **** Dave Davis had arrived at Green's apparel to take Gina out on a date and like always being CEO meant she could do whatever she wanted. She told Scott to help pile a few documents and she saw that he was pissed off. She could even hear a growl. She knew what was going on, he still didn't like Davis and he didn't trust him as well. Gina gave him a look telling him she was fine and he nodded in agreement, his face was still hard. Davis escorted Gina out of the building. Gina was surprised Dave took her to their favorite restaurant. Russo's. Russo's was their favorite restaurant. They had been going there since they were in high school. The owner of the restaurant Mr. Justin Russo had seen them as his best customers. There were even times when they got food for free. Gina barely came here after Dave ghosted her, when she told Justin that she and Dave weren't on speaking terms anymore, he was just as heartbroken as she was. Justin once described their love as beautiful and unbreakable. Gina believed it and she believed that her love for Dave was real, she thought he felt the same way but now that he was back, maybe he did love her after all, and today was the day he was finally going to tell her why he had ghosted her. "Gli amici! (Friends!)" Mr. Russo yelled out when he saw Gina and Dave together. He was beyond excited to see his favorite ship together once again. "I always knew you were going to come back together." He kissed both their cheeks, a habit he did because it was a normal thing in Italy. They were happy to see him happy but when Gina was going to correct him. Dave quickly held her hand. "Yes! We're back together." He looked at her and he smiled Gina smiled as well, her smile was real and if Dave had confirmed it then it was true. They were back together. "Great! I have missed you two, please sit down. I'll make you the usual." He then moved closer to them and whispered. "on the house of course." He winked. "Ah, thank you, Justin! I've missed you!" Dave yelled and he smiled at Gina once more. Pasta, sauce, meatballs, and a glass of wine were their usual whenever they came here. And as for dessert, they had cheesecake and ice cream. Gina had the chocolate flavor and Dave took vanilla. Gina couldn't believe all this was happening. It had been years and most times Gina would find herself sitting here alone but now she was with the love of her life. "I just wanted to clear my head, I wasn't at the right headspace." He said while putting a meatball in his mouth. "Why didn't you just tell me? We could have gone through this together." "Naa." He shook his head. "I didn't want to burden you. You had your company and that was all I wanted you to worry about. I'm just sorry I didn't give a warning before leaving." "It's okay." Gina held his hand. "You're here now." She said and he smiled. That smile, Gina had always loved his smile, she used to be crazy about that smile but now she just saw it as a normal beautiful smile. Dave Davis was handsome, no doubt everyone knew that. He had blond hair and ocean blue eyes and he was muscular. He was a businessman but he would fit as a model. Dave and Gina fell in love at first sight. It was your normal cliche high school story. Gina was a cheerleader and Dave was the jock, they were the power couple of their high school at Sesame High. But why wasn't Gina feeling anything with that touch or his smile? Could it be that she never wanted to be back together and all she wanted was to know why he left? She didn't know, all she knew was the feelings she had for Dave then weren't as strong as it was now. A phone rang and it was Dave's phone. It wasn't a ring it was a message tone, Dave brought out his phone, looked at it, and turned to Gina he had a disappointed look on his face. "I'm really sorry G, I have to go." He said. "What? What about the cake and ice cream?" "We'll do that some other time but right now I have a business to attend to." He got up and Gina tried her best not to look disappointed. She could understand anyway, it was business. He walked over to her and kissed her on the forehead. "I love you." He said but she didn't say it back, all of a sudden that word didn't mean anything to her. Dave bid Mr. Russo farewell and assured him that he was going to be back. Gina just stayed there confused. Did she not love Dave anymore?
