Telling our friends goodbye wasnʻt easy but we told them weʻd come to visit on the weekend and maybe they can come to visit us as well.
“Hey Holly,” Lawrence said as Holly tensed up
“I just wanted to tell you Iʻm sorry for acting like a jerk. And to you too Jazzy” he said as he approached the girls. Cinth was not impressed
“You just saying that cause our Mama made you say it?” Cinth scowled
“Yes and no. Your Mama is scary thatʻs for sure. But when she told me, Iʻd end up dead I knew she was right. Iʻm trying to make things right by my parents and hopefully by you two as well” he claimed
“Uh-huh. Well, actions speak louder than words and at this point, at least this is the first step. At least you are man enough to admit you're wrong and apologize. Doesnʻt mean anything unless you continue to act on it. Iʻll be watching” Cinth replied
“Holly, do you forgive me?” he asked
“Yes, with reservations of course. You really hurt me by the things you did. I canʻt just forgive because I canʻt forget how it made me feel. Dirty, worthless, insignificant, useless, despicable….”
“Okay, I get it, Holly. I am sorry for making you feel all of those things. I wish I could take back everything I did to you but I canʻt. I can only promise that Iʻll be better, do better. I wanna do that for you. You believed in me when I didnʻt even know I was being a jerk and walking a thin line. Thank you for saving me from your sister” he said looking at Cinth who was making a gagging motion listening to his gushy words. They all looked at her and had a good laugh, even Lawrence.
“Well, I wish you well in Minnewanka. I hope you make great new friends and not come across jerks like me” he winked.
“Donʻt be so hard on yourself. What happened in the past is already, a hard pill to swallow. How you act tomorrow is what matters” Holly said, “why donʻt you join us for lunch in the cafeteria?”
They all looked at Cinth who was rolling her eyes “I gueeesss” she said as they all headed for lunch.
It was a lighthearted lunch to say the least. Lawrence wasnʻt such a bad person when he wasnʻt being a jerk. They told him about how their assembly was decimated and they were found as babies and taken in by their Mama and Papa. How as women, like all girls growing up in the pack are trained as warriors. Lawrence listened with intenseness.
“So does that mean that my mother was also trained as a warrior?” he asked
“Oh yes for sure. Men and women train but women are trained at a higher degree because we are a woman-led pack” Cinth answered proudly
“Wow! So all these years, she just coulda kicked my ass for being an ass” he said thinking inwardly at the thought of his mother being a warrior “Damn, I lucked out. Better make sure I stay on her good side knowing what I know now”
“Lawrence, Iʻm surprised you didnʻt know these things. Most everyone does because itʻs training done at a very young age” Yarrow asked, “have you not trained?”
“No, I havenʻt. Maybe with my attitude the way it was, my parents felt they didnʻt want me using that and acting out more than I was. Wow, what a jerk I've been but no matter, today is the tomorrow to making it better right?” Lawrence said and the girls all agreed.
“Hey, how about we make a t****k video dance to commemorate our friendship here?” Yazzy said
“Sounds great! Lawrence you in?” Yarrow asked
“Yeah, sounds great,” he said
“Ok, let's meet in the field after school and we can do a quick practice,” Yazzy said and they agreed “letʻs invite some of our friends to join us and we can create a group video” she included, Lawrence looked apprehensive but willing to take the steps to being a new Lawrence.
The rest of the day was uneventful except for a dark feeling Holly felt. She kept looking over her shoulder as if someone was watching her. Cinth picked up on it right away.
“Holly whatʻs going on?” she said as the girls gathering after their last class before heading to the field for their video
“I donʻt know Cinth. It feels like someone is watching me, but when I look around I donʻt see anyone” she said as her sister listens looking around them
“Okay, well letʻs mindlink Mama and let her know something doesnʻt feel right” Yarrow chided
“No, let's lean on each other for strength. Tomorrow is our last day of school before heading out tomorrow even for Minnewanka. Letʻs watch each others back but make the most of it” Holly replied
“We can do that. But I still want Mama to know that something doesnʻt feel right” Yarrow said
“Okay, tonight when we get home weʻll talk to 2X2 then talk to Mama and let her know weʻll be watching each otherʻs back. In the meantime, Holly does NOT go anywhere alone. Where she is, we ALL are. Okay?” said Cinth. They all agreed and headed for the field
-------------------
So they meet in the field after school. There are about 10 of them. They decide to use the treeline of the forest by the field as a backdrop instead of the field that has the roadway in the back of it. They start to practice the Up Speed dance challenge. It took more practice than they thought. Laughing their asses off more like it. They need something simpler so they try Trends Remix. Seems simple enough but they look like a bunch of no rhythm kids on crack. They finally settle on Renegade. After a few tries, they finally get it right and post it to their tiktoks.
“Weʻre really gonna miss seeing all of you in school. Iʻm so glad weʻll be back on the weekends to just hang out and have fun at the mall or the lake” Cinth says as we hug our friends. Tomorrow will be our last day in school. Hoping to make it the best day ever.
The girls get home and Grandma and Quin-Cee are there prepping for dinner. They go and check on the animals and see what else they can do to help. Itʻs a quiet evening and the sadness in the air is thick. Knowing they are leaving these beautiful women is harder than leaving their friends.
“We are gonna miss you,” Holly says and tears threaten to fall
“Hey there, no fussing. We will be just fine” Quin-Cee says
“Yeah but whoʻs gonna care for the animals and do the gardening, and, and…” Yarrow started bawling
“Come here girls,” Grandma says
They all come in around her. Itʻs heartbreaking to know theyʻll be so far away.
“You all are just a teleport away. If you ever feel the need to come, just come. You know weʻll always be here. Donʻt even worry about the chores. Weʻll get by, we always have. The chores were for you folks to learn, practice and appreciate hard work. Keep you grounded” Grandma said as she smiled lovingly at the girls that made them feel better
“Grandma, watch this! We did a t****k video with our friends today” says Holly as she shows Grace her video.
Grace and Constance are watching and laughing until Grace goes pale. Constance as a faraway look in her eyes.
“Grandma, what's wrong?” Holly asks
“Mindlink your Mama and tell her to come quickly” was all Grace said but the urgency in her voice had the girls calling their Mama
“Whatʻs going on?” as Ro and Grant teleported over seconds after they got the link.
“Please watch the girls' video and tell me if you see what we see,” Grandma says and now the girls are on their own phones watching their videos hoping to catch a glimpse of what Grace and Constance saw….and then they all see it….
“Aww hell no! That canʻt be who I think it is?” Ro says
“What is it?” Grant asks
“Itʻs Sabien Thorn, the dark sorcerer that wrote my prophecy. He was supposedly killed by Jaxx Landry, but not before telling him of what the prophecy entailed. King Jaxx went on a killing spree trying to kill all the Alpha Luna and supernaturals he could find. But he specifically hunted down my family because we were the lineage that would bear the she-child warrior that would be the Landry's demise. This is what started the generational g******e of our family. But Constance, how can this be that he is still alive?” Ro asked
“Not alive in this realm, but alive beyond the veil. He needs a conduit to come back and it seems heʻs found one” she replied, “girls, have any of you had a weird foreboding feeling?”
“Yes, I have. Itʻs like someoneʻs been watching me. But when I turn and look, I donʻt see anyone. I started noticing it yesterday. Cinth saw my reaction and we let Yazzy and Yarrow know too. Mama, Iʻm afraid” Holly said
“Baby, weʻre not gonna let anything happen to you. Remember when I told you girls that together you are stronger? Now is the time to stay together. No one goes anywhere alone. Itʻs ALL four or none at all. Even in the bathroom and showering. I donʻt even want you in a bathroom stall alone, even if you all have to cram into it together, stay together” Ro said
The girls looked at each other, thinking the same thing. Even if weʻre doing number 2? Ro could read their expressions.
“Girls look at me. Now is not the time to be modest. Yes, all of you are going through changes. Youʻre becoming women and in doing so, your bodies are changing. But I want you to know, ALL of us women go through these changes. Itʻs nothing to be scared or embarrassed about” Ro says
“But Mama, number 2!?” Cinth grumbled
“Hey, we ALL do number 2!” Papa said “it is a natural occurrence in life. Every living creature does number 2. It may smell but hey itʻs life”
“Eewww Papa, no! Mama!?” Yarrow tried covering her ears to muffle her Papaʻs words
“Sorry girls, it's the way it has to be until we can figure out what he wants,” Ro tells her girls
“He wantʻs Magie Ancienne,” says Holly with a faraway look in her eyes...
