The Alpha’s Surprising Mate

Chapter Seven

It was now a day before my 18th birthday. My foot and back were fully healed, I made sure to increase my training and even started training with the pack warriors. I had become used to having Alpha Gabriel around, he didn’t seem to be going anywhere any time soon. I still didn’t feel like I was worthy of being his mate let alone the Luna of this pack and I knew it was going to hurt having to reject him but what other choice did I have? I am weak. I am not Luna material what so ever.

“What do you plan on doing for your birthday tomorrow?” Genny asked breaking my train of thought as she came in my room and fell back on my bed while I was finding clothes.

“Nothing. I don’t want to do anything. I just want to spend the day alone and read a good book.”

Genny looked at me with horror in her eyes.

“It’s your EIGHTEENTH birthday! You can’t just not do anything! You’re getting your wolf! You need to do something!” She cried.

I couldn’t help but laugh at her. I hadn’t celebrated a birthday in so long that the thought of doing so now just seemed silly.

“Don’t laugh! It’s true! We have to do something! Could I take you to the mall to go shopping or something?” She pleaded with me.

Just to make her happy I agreed and she threw her arms around me in excitement. She left my room so I could get ready for the day then we both headed to the kitchen to help Agnes prepare breakfast.

Agnes seemed just as mortified as Genny when she asked about my plans the next day but seemed to be okay with me going shopping with Genny.

It didn’t take long to finish making breakfast and putting it out for the pack. I decided I wanted to do some baking so I took my breakfast and went back into the kitchen and began rummaging around finding all the ingredients I would need.

Losing myself in my favourite hobby I made different pies and pastries and even made some banana chocolate chip muffins. Agnes joined me after a while as the warriors were due to finish training soon. She was shocked to see everything I had made and praised me for my good work.

Soon the warriors came in for their food. Kai came in but wouldn’t even make eye contact with me. It saddened me because he was very nice. I still greeted him and he respectfully greeted me as well before getting his snacks as fast as he could and running out the door.

I sighed as I felt someone come up behind me, I turned to see Alpha Gabriel with a big smile on his face.

“I missed you at breakfast this morning, where were you?”

“I was in here baking, try these!” I said excitedly as I took a plate and placed a couple muffins as well as a cherry cheese danish and apple fritter on it.

“Are you trying to fatten me up?” He chuckled as he took a bite of the danish. A toe curling moan came from his mouth as he bit into it.

“My goddess, you made these? They are heavenly!” He said as he looked over to Agnes with an apologetic expression. “No offence, Agnes!”

She laughed at him and told him none taken, she knew how good my baking was.

I was ecstatic that he liked it so much, praise was one thing I learned I loved. I adored making people happy and if using my baking skills did so then I would bake until my fingers were numb.

Seeing the smile on my face he leaned in and gave me a big smooch making me freeze in place. Not only did I now have Cherry jelly all over my mouth but he hadn’t kissed me since the kiss on my cheek when he brought me home from the hospital.

I spotted Agnes with her eyebrows raised looking between us. I flushed and turned away wiping my mouth.

“I need to use the bathroom.” I said then quickly left the room looking for my safe haven. My heart was in my stomach and doing all different types of flips and flutters. I looked in the mirror. I couldn’t help but smile as I touched my lips. He really was such a sweet man. I knew that I was falling in love with him as hard as I tried not to and I knew I needed to distance myself and I guess I had tried this morning by not being present for breakfast. I will have to try harder.

Finishing in the bathroom I returned to the kitchen to see that it was just Agnes cleaning up after the warriors.

“Well, well, well! What was that all about young lady?” She says with a knowing smile.

“Nothing! It was nothing.”

“You cheeky bugger! I can see by the smile and the redness of your cheeks it wasn’t nothing!”

I knew I wasn’t going to get away with not telling her. Genny already knew that he was my mate so I figured if I didn’t tell her then Genny would.

“Okay! I’ll tell you… Just please, don’t tell anyone.”

“Oh honey, your secrets are safe with me.” She winked at me. “I’ll make some tea then we’ll sit and have a chat? Does that sound alright?”

“That would be lovely. Let me help.”

Once we were seated I told her everything. My past, how I got here and how Gabriel was my mate and that I didn’t feel I was suitable for him or the pack.

Agnes looked at me for a moment before she spoke. I guess she was just letting everything register first.

“My sweet girl. Sometimes life works in mysterious ways and I can tell you now that the moon goddess chose you to be his mate and Luna of our pack for a reason. Don’t sell yourself short. Yes, you had a horrendous upbringing but think of how you can use that to your advantage. I’m not going to try and change your mind about anything but just think about it. You are a wonderful young lady and you deserve so much from life, we would be honoured to have you as our Luna.” With that said she got up and wrapped her arms around me.

We stayed that way for a few moments. I took advantage of getting as much affection as I could. Agnes truly was such an amazing person. She reminded me very much of my own mother.

“Thank you, Agnes. I really needed to hear that. Your kindness towards me has not gone unnoticed and I want you to know how much I appreciate you.” I said as I hugged her tightly.

We cleaned our mess from the table and as I went out the door I heard a commotion in front of the pack house. When I went around the house to see what was going on I froze as I saw some blonde haired woman in a sleazy black dress with massive high heels with her arms draped around Gabriel’s neck.

“Ohh Gabey baby! I missed you so much!” I heard her say then to my horror she leaned in and kissed him. Without waiting a second longer I turned and ran back to my house. Gabey baby? That nickname made me want to puke.

I thought he said I was his mate? Yet he is there with another woman?! How could he? After a few moments of self loathing I brushed it off. What should I care? I wanted to reject him anyways.

I made sure to avoid him and the Barbie for the rest of the day. Anytime I would hear them coming I would duck around the corner or go into another room.

When we were in the kitchen making dinner I pleaded with Agnes to let me stay in the kitchen rather than bringing plates out. She thankfully allowed me but gave me a questioning look.

I was in the kitchen when the Barbie came in.

“You. Omega runt. The alpha and I would like a bottle of wine.” She said as she snapped her fingers. I wasn’t paying attention to her and she got in my face.

“EXCUSE ME?! How dare you ignore me! I gave you an order!”

As I looked up at her I could see all the makeup she’s plastered all over her face as well as her clearly fake breasts. What did he even see in her?

Before I could respond she slapped me across the face. I grabbed my face as I looked at her bewildered. What the hell was that?!

“Get. Me. The. Wine. NOW!” She said through clenched teeth.

Rather than saying anything I bowed my head and left the room still holding me cheek. I didn’t want to say anything to upset her and her to get Gabriel involved. The last thing I wanted was to speak with him.

I returned with the wine and handed it to her with two glasses. She gave me a smug smile then quickly turned on her feet and walked out the door. Not wanting to stick around incase she came back, I left the kitchen and went home. I had lost my appetite and just wanted to sleep. Tomorrow was going to be a very long day.
