Chapter 2
Anna squinted her eyes as the sun rays pierced its way through her eyelids. It took her a minute before her eyes could adjust to the bright lights that shined through the windows. “I think I must've slept all through yesterday," she said. She made to get off the bed but there was a sudden sharp pain in her head.
“What the f**k! “, Shegroaned. She tried processing her memories to recollect any memories of yesterday but she couldn't remember a thing. She managed to get herself off the bed.
She took her first step on the rug and immediately felt a sharp needle as it pierced her skin.
She gasped in pain. She looked over to see an empty syringe laying on the rug. the Mafias had drugged her to sleep, leaving behind the syringe on the rug. Her eyes suddenly widened in shock as all her memories came flooding back.
Anna had faint memories of Kyle punching her on the face. She also recalled signing a strange document, Kyle carrying her up to my room, and drugging her to sleep. Anna's chest sank as she recalled the death of her grandma Grandma.
She quickly buried her face into her palms. To her, Sobbing was not going to solve anything. She just lost her job, her grandma, and some stupid Mafia leader who's so obsessed with her—break into her house and assault her all in one day.
She knew that she needed to get away from all the pain. Her life had become too complicated for her to handle and she needed somewhere she could start over. Her Grandma had a house back then in Ashwood. Although it was a five hour drive from New York, Anna was ready to give it a go.
She knew that Kyle would be coming back tonight to check up on her, so her only option was to leave that day. She couldn't stand him anymore. She recalled the first time they met when he was in jail. She was supposed to write an article on his arrest for the company’s magazine. When her team went to prison just to interview him, he said absolutely nothing but to stare at her all through.
Anna also recalled the smile he gave to her when her team had given up and walked away. He had the cold and menacing eyes of something inhuman.
What freaked Anna out the most was when she found him standing in front of her apartment a day after his arrest. She was about to leave for work when she bumped into him and his mafia thugs. It had turned out that even the cops were under his command and he was able to buy his way out of jail.
“Stupid Mafia guy”, she hissed as an image of his face played in her mind. She dashed into the shower and in a few minutes she was out and already drying her hair. Although she wasn't so much of a rich lady, she was able to take care of her needs and that was all that mattered to her.
Anna packed her bags, picking the most important things she could carry. The rest were going to be transported down later on to her. She got into the car and paused for a few seconds. She was about leaving behind every memory she had and everything she had worked for.
She was going to place the house and the car for sale. But first, she still needed the car to drive her down to Ashwood. She summoned her courage, turned in the keys and the car roared back to life. She took one last look at her house before slamming on the accelerator and driving off.

Ashwood as the name implied, was a beautiful sight to see. Although the city wasn't flooded with as many people as expected, the little folks Anna saw as she drove through the town looked quite friendly.
She had visited the hospital. After making her sign multiple documents, Anna took her grandma to the mortuary. It was a silent burial between her and her late grandma.
She sniffed up her tears, stormed into the car and drove off. Anna rechecked the GPS to confirm her location. The last thing she wanted was to get lost in a city she once was when she was a little girl.
Locating her late grandma's house wasn't hard for Anna to figure out. Although it was far away from the rest of the town. It dwelled in the deep woods of Ashwood where it would take quite a distance before anyone would see another lonely house.
“Oh my! Now that's a lot of work to do.”, she hissed as she drove into the vicinity. She wasn't even out of the car when she started whining about the dried leaves which scattered all around the front porch—or was it the tree branches that stuck its way too close to the windows.
Grandma had always been the cleanest person she knew. Living alone was a tough job to handle at her age so she knew she was up for some cleaning.
She stepped on the front porch which gave a little creek sound. The woods were already giving up and it needed replacements. The door to the house was open—which seemed unusual.
Everything in the house was still in order. It was quite surprising how nobody broke into the house despite its cloistered and vulnerable location.
Something on the wall caught Anna's attention. It was a picture of her grandma standing with her parents. Her mum was holding a little girl. Anna looked exactly like her dad when she was little. It was quite funny to Anna how biology played its trick and now she looked exactly like her mum.
She brushed her fingers over the picture. Her vision became blurry as tears welled up in her eyes. She had lost both parents when she was just a little girl. Grandma was the one who took care of her all her life. When she was finally old enough to take care of herself, she decided to come back to Ashwood. Deep down She knew she was going to miss her a lot.
She was still deep in thoughts when she heard a sound from one of the rooms. Nobody was supposed to be inside the house—or maybe she was wrong. She quickly grabbed an umbrella because it was the closest thing she could find at the moment.
Anna proceeded with caution. Taking slow but steady steps towards where the sound came from. She could hear whimpers coming from the room she was standing in front of. It sounded like an animal in pain.
“What if it's a wild animal? ” she thought to herself.
Fear engulfed her whole body as she carefully opened the room door to see a wounded dog laying helplessly on the wooden floor. It had deep gashes on its back and hindlegs.
As soon as the dog saw Anna, its whimpers turned into deep growls—exposing its huge long fangs which was a clear warning to steer clear.
“Hey! It's okay! It's okay! “, she said. Her love for dogs immediately got the best of her. She gently dropped the umbrella on the floor, “see? I'm not going to hurt you “ she said. She raised her palms in the air showing that she was not going to hurt him.
The dog seemed to understand her because its growls became less intense. Anna slowly walked towards it till she was just a step away from where it laid.
It was a male. She could see from its muscular build and well—it's balls. He had dark furs covering his well-built body. His claws were longer and sharper than usual.
Although Anna couldn't place what species of dog he was. All she knew was that he was quite larger than a normal dog and looked so much like a wolf instead.
The dog seemed to calm down as her hands touched its furs. He was bleeding badly and Anna knew she had to do something about it. Her Grandma had always kept a first aid kit wherever she lived. She would always tell her that she might never know who's life you'll save.
Anna rushed to Grandma's room. She knew where her grandma normally kept her kit so it wasn't hard for her to find. Sherushed back to the dog. She examined the wounds. It looked like it was attacked by a bear. They were different bite marks on its body.
She quickly cleaned the wounds and banded the area to stop the bleeding. The dog seemed to trust her because it laid still as she attended to it.
“I'm sorry. You're gonna be all fine.” she said calmly. It looked into her eyes and she could see its impressively bright yellow eyes staring deep into her like it was trying to tell her something.
She picked him up gently and placed him on the bed where it was soft and comfortable. It whimpered in pain as Anna tried to soothe him by gently rubbing on his back.
Anna thought about taking him to the Vet but she wasn't sure the city even had one. “Stay here husky. I'll be back”.
