“What’s this place” I looked at her surprised. I thought this was going to be house hunting but I guess I was wrong.

“Relax, you will see when you get there” she replied and I just shrugged my shoulders. Gates were opened and we went straight inside, the compound looked so modern yet natural and so green at the same time. The driver parked and opened our doors, I got out and my eyes couldn’t stop admiring the beauty of the place

“Like your new home?” Emerson asked. I could tell from her face that she was enjoying my reaction.

“New…wha…. how did you find this place?” I asked

“Internet baby girl, some of us actually know how to use our phones” she said sarcastically

“Come on, let’s get you inside” she added. I was so excited that I almost forgot about how I was going to pay for this place. Now I was getting worried and hesitated to move a bit. Emerson must have noticed and she looked back at me

“But Emmy how am I supposed to afford this place......I don’t think…...” I was still talking but she cut me off and told me she would explain everything later once we get settled. No words can explain how I was feeling at the moment, it was just a mixture of emotions, I was at loss of words.

I followed closely behind Emerson, we took an elevator to the fifth floor, we turned to the left and headed straight to the very last room, she opened and we went inside. I didn't carry a lot of things since I didn’t anyone to become suspicious, only a few clothes and some essentials.

The interior was so beautiful and well furnished. One kitchen with a dark theme, a dining area, living room, two bedrooms- self-contained and a balcony, this was my first time to be in such a place, one I honestly don’t know Emerson had all this prepared but I would love to get all the answers later as she promised to spill all the beans. I walked over the balcony and I squealed in happiness, the view was so mesmerising to the eyes, there was what looked like a cottage and a swimming pool. I couldn’t control my happiness; I ran back inside and hugged Emmy so tight

*Cough cough*

“aah my ribs…” she said and I immediately jolted back

“Am sorry, am just so happy” I said as I jumped up and down.

“I love you; I love you” I said. Am sure I looked like a puppy right now because Emerson couldn’t stop giggling.

“I love you too girl” she replied.

“So…...can I ask about all of this!!” I said calmly. I wanted every single detail.

“Well, I pulled a few strings with my dad, he helped me find the driver and gave me the money that paid the place, all I did was find its website and he paid for the first six months” she said

“So, you don’t have to worry for that time, focus on adjusting to the environment and finding a job, also take your time, no need to rush” she added

I looked at her with a knowing look, she had told her dad without involving me. She must have noticed the worry on my face because his dad and my father were so close, he was literally the Beta of the pack, I was scared that he would tell my dad about my leaving or to get him in trouble in my dad finds out he knew all about this.

“I know what you’re thinking but it was risky not to involve any adult, I would never forgive myself if anything happened to you, you’re like family”

“Plus, you can trust my dad with secrets you know” she said and winked at me. And she was right indeed, I could trust him with that. I felt relived at least now I dint have to worry about rent for these months. Honestly, if I used my savings the best I could get would have been a dog’s house but now I will use it for shopping groceries, clothes and transportation matters.

“Oh also, I was allowed to keep you company for a week…..maybe two, or three, or four ” she said as she headed to the kitchen to see if we can get what to eat.

“yes!!!” I shouted and kicked my feet in the air.

“Yeah I’m also allowed to change my mind” she teased followed by a laughter.

I was so scared about being all by myself but at least she was here for a month, that was fair enough, I was so happy. This wasn’t the start I imagined.

I unpacked my few belongings, I put the family portrait on the bed stand together with my brother’s toy. Honestly, I no longer had any nice clothes with me but I was to see what to do about that. I took a shower suddenly I felt so calm and at peace for the first time after all these years, felt like washing away suffocation but I knew it was not going to be long, it was temporary consolation. I went to the other bedroom to say goodnight to me but she was sound asleep, she must have been so tired after all the effort and trouble it took to get me here. I smiled to myself and went in to cover her fragile body. After all these years she hadn’t changed, still sleeps like lobster.
