Chapter 7When Adrian next encountered the captain, or rather, Guy, as he must remember to call him, he was mildly astonished to discover he was as good as his word. Adrian and his family were spending another evening in the Long Room at an assembly. As usual, he was doing his duty, dancing with his cousins or any other young lady in their circle who was short of a dance partner. While taking one damsel through her paces, he spied Guy over the other side of the room, talking to major Bridges, the military gentleman who seemed to latch onto him on these occasions. Inevitably, as Adrian watched, the attractive waiter approached Guy, proffering the refreshment tray. There was an exchange of beverages and perhaps some badinage that someone less attuned to Guy than Adrian would not have noticed
