CHAPTER.003

THE ALPHA AT MY DOOR (Sophia’s POV) My heart began palpitating violently against my chest. That voice. It couldn’t be. It shouldn't be the Alpha who humiliated me before the entire pack tonight. For a moment, I stared at the door like it might disappear if I didn’t move. My fingers quivered slightly at my sides, and my wolf provoked again—this time, not in pain. not in despair. But in warning. “Open the door, Sophia.” The voice came again, this time, it wasn't tenuous. There was no mistake now. It was him. Ryder. I felt like a wave passed through me at the moment. thousands of thoughts collided in my mind all at once. "Why was he here?" "Is he coming to humiliate me again?" "Is he coming with another Luna who made him humiliate me?" "After what he did tonight?" My fingers slowly fall into fists. No. I wouldn’t let him see me like this again. Not broken. Not weak. Not his rejected omega. I inhaled deeply, forcing my breathing to steady. Then I walked toward the door—each step slow, deliberate, controlled. By the time I reached it, my face was calm. Empty. I opened the door. And there he stood. Alpha Ryder Blackwood. The man who made the pack look down on me today. The man who made me feel bad without remorse. For a second, neither of us spoke. But unlike earlier tonight. I didn’t look away. “What do you want?” I asked quietly. “Why have you come here tonight?” "Say whatever you want to say quickly and leave here, i have a lot to do please. I spoke in indignation. No warmth. No hesitation. Just distance. Maybe—but it vanished as quickly as it came. “I need to talk to you.” It's urgent. His voice was low, controlled… but there was something underneath it. Something I couldn’t quite place. I let out a soft, humourless, and hysterical laugh. “Talk?” I repeated. “I think you’ve said enough for one night.” I don't need to get more of the insult. Enough of it . I tried moving away from the door when he stopped me. “You don’t get to command me,” I said, my voice steady. Something dangerous flashed in his eyes this time. But I didn’t back down. For a few seconds, we stood there in silence—both unmoving, both unwilling to yield. He stepped back. The door remained open between us, but the tension didn’t fade. “I don't care to know whatever you're here for, just know I'm not listening to you. “If you’re here to remind me of what happened,” I continued, crossing my arms, “you’re wasting your time.” “I’m not.” His answer was immediate. Firm. And strangely… sincere. That made me pause. Just slightly. His gaze softened—just a fraction. “I didn’t come to humiliate you again.” The words hit me harder than I expected. A bitter smile tugged at my lips. You've got no reason to humiliate me again, you've done enough already. “Congratulations,” I said. “You already did that perfectly in front of the entire pack.” Silence followed. Heavy. Uncomfortable. Then he sighed—a quiet, almost reluctant sound. “That wasn’t supposed to happen like that.” My eyes narrowed. “Oh?” I tilted my head slightly. “So publicly rejecting me was an accident?” His jaw tightened. “You don’t understand.” “I will explain”. “Then explain it.” The words slipped out before I could stop them. For a moment, I regretted it. Because now… I was giving him space to speak. And I wasn’t sure I wanted to hear anything he had to say. Ryder studied me carefully, like he was trying to decide something. Then finally, he spoke. “There are things you don’t know about… about the pack. About me.” I scoffed softly. “There always are.” He ignored that. “If I had accepted you tonight." “Don’t.” My voice cut through his instantly. Sharp. Final. His brows furrowed slightly. “I’m serious, Sophia." “I said don’t,” I repeated, quieter this time… but stronger. My chest tightened, but I held his gaze. “I don’t care about your reasons.” That wasn’t entirely true. But he didn’t need to know that. “You made your choice,” I continued. “And I’ve made mine.” Something shifted in his expression. "What made you think I would love to hear what you want to say?" What made you think I would ever want to see you in my life again?" You've got nothing to say anymore Ryder, your cup is already filled now. Please with all due respect leave my house immediately please. He didn’t move. Not even slightly. For a moment, I thought maybe he didn’t hear me. Or maybe… he simply didn’t care. Or maybe he was just being obstinate. My patience snapped. “I said leave, Ryder.” Leave! Don't get me infuriated. My voice came out colder this time—harder. Still… he stood there. Watching me. Like he was trying to read something I refused to show him. Then slowly, he exhaled. “That’s not going to happen." My brows furrowed instantly. “You don't get to dictate what's going to happen in my own house." “You don’t get to decide that.” “I already did.” he said. A bitter laugh escaped my lips. “Of course you did. You always feel you have the right to decide whatever you want, who stays, who leaves, because you're an Alpha.” I said with exasperation. “That’s not what this is.” “Then what is it?” I snapped." Silence fell between us again. Heavy. Tense. Suffocating. Filled with pressure. “I came here to fix this.” The words caught me off guard. I froze for half a second before forcing out a dry laugh. "You came to fix what?" "What do you want to fix?" I repeated. “You think this is something you can fix?” “Yes.” The confidence in his answer only made it worse. “No, you can’t,” I said firmly. “You don’t get to humiliate me in front of everyone and then show up here acting like it’s nothing.” “I know what I did.” “Do you?” “No you don't." “Do you know what it felt like?" Standing there while everyone watched?" My chest tightened, but I pushed through it. “While they looked at me like I was nothing.” He was amazed for a few minutes. But I refused to acknowledge it. “I had no choice,” he said quietly. That stopped me. “No choice?” I echoed. “You’re the Alpha. You always have a choice.” “Not this time.” The way he said it made something uneasy twist inside me. But I quickly shut it down. “That’s not my problem,” I replied coldly. “I don't have time for your excuses please leave. I moved to shut the door. But his hand shot out, stopping it. My breath hitched slightly. “Don’t,” he said. “Move your hand.” “Not until you listen to me.” “I don’t want to listen to you!” I said sharply. “What if your life depends on it?” The words hit harder than they should have. I blinked. “What?" “Because it does.” “What are you talking about?” I asked inquisitively. For the first time since he got here… Ryder hesitated. And that alone made my heart beat faster “There are things happening in this pack,” he said slowly. “Things you don’t know about.” I scoffed, but it came out weaker than I intended. “You’re not making any sense.” I said. “I rejected you to protect you.” Everything inside me stilled. A hollow laugh escaped me. “That’s your excuse?” You always find ways to defend yourself. I said, shaking my head. “That humiliating me was somehow… protection?” “It’s the truth.” “No,” I said firmly. “Then let me explain.” Just for a second. No.I refused. part of me wanted to hear it. I wanted to understand. But I forced that part down. "You made your choice.” “And I had to let go” As I was about to close the door again, something strange happened....and my wolf went completely still."
