CHAPTER 2

Emily was just out of the customs at the airport and she had a terrible headache. The plane trip took hours and she spent it fidgeting in her seat due to nervousness. All she wanted was to see her sister, have a bath, and have a good night's sleep. She was so anxious about her eventual return to New York, she barely had any decent sleep the night before. She dragged her suitcase behind her as she scanned the airport lobby looking for a black-haired little woman. However, she saw someone unexpected. And she could tell from the look on his face that he spotted her as well. She tried her best to avert her gaze and pretend she didn't see him.  Alexander Braxton was not who she expected to see as soon as she arrived in New York. She tried to manoeuver her way to the opposite side of the lobby. As soon as she lifted her gaze. He was there in front of her. He stood there glaring at her with his piercing grey eyes. She was frozen in her spot. She knew very well how bad he gets when he is angry. His presence did not change, not even the least bit. He was still towering over her and as intimidating as she remembered. "Why are you back Emily, after seven whole months?" his voice was terse. She knew that tone. it was his business tone. "I'm here for your wedding Alexander," she replied as equally terse. two can play the game "Are you going to ruin it as you do with everything? what is it that you exactly want?" " All I ever wanted is for you to love me. But now...". She came to a halt. She couldn't exactly muster up the courage to tell him she gave up. She didn't give up on him. Her heart could never. She just gave up on him loving her." But now you're here to ruin my life because I rejected you." He stated matter of factly as if he knew the truth. He had no idea what she was feeling but she felt anger bubbling inside of her. She had suffered enough of his false judgments. Alexander always tended to view things only as he pleases. What others think or feel was the last of his concerns."Shut up! Just...Shut up."  His eyebrows perked up at her outburst. It was not her usual self. She was naturally a calm and collected person. "Don't get riled up Emily. What the hell is wrong with you?" "You're the one who approached me and you dare ask what's wrong with me? I was obviously  trying to avoid you, yet you still came to me." "I only wanted to know if you're here to make trouble." He stated matter of factly. "Are you seriously asking me why I came back to the place I was born and raised in? The nerve you have!" "I have to make sure nothing disturbs my wedding." She felt a piercing pain shoot through her chest and squeeze her heart. He must love her a lot, She thought to herself. It's the only explanation she could come up with for him to attack her like this as soon as he saw her. "I am here because my father said I must attend your wedding. Do not worry I have no intention whatsoever to see or even talk to you Mr. Braxton. As long as you stay away from me." "If that's the case then there's no need to continue this useless conversation. I shall take my leave then." "Good riddance." She said with the best smile she could muster as he shot her one of his piercing glares before turning and leaving. She sighed as she watched him waltz away. "that was intense sis!" she heard a voice say behind her as she yelped in surprise.  She turned around to see Anna looking at her with an amused look. "Since when have you been here?" "Since the part where you told him to shut up. I was hiding behind that big trash can." "it didn't come up to you to come and save, did it? " "Nah, you were doing so well talking back to that giant of a man. I'm so proud of you little sister." Anna said pretending to wipe fake tears off her eyes. "I'm the eldest though, Anna." "Whatever! Come on! Give me a hug!" She gave her sister a breathtaking embrace she herself needed after months of loneliness in Paris.  "Let's spend the rest of the day and the night at a hotel so we can relax and catch up." "what about mom and dad?" "I told them you're coming tomorrow so we have all the time we need. I am sure a good night's sleep will come in handy for you. you have terrible bags under your eyes." "Yeah, I really need it. I couldn't get any decent sleep last night." "off we go then!"Anna chirped cheerfully. she always liked that about her. Anna would always try to lighten up the mood no matter how heavy it was. She followed her to her car as her encounter with Alexander kept replaying in her mind.
