In the beginning...
The fae queen paced her chambers, her long silver gown flowing behind her as she moved. She pushed a strand of her long blonde hair behind her slightly pointed ear and sighed in irritation. They were late. They were always late. She stopped and closed her eyes, reaching for her power. Breathing deeply, she waived her right hand in front of her and opened her eyes. The air before her shimmered and thickened. Slowly, four images formed before her. The images moved and sharpened as she watched them. Finally, four faces looked back at her.   "Mother," said the first, the eldest of her four sons. His sky blue eyes twinkled as he smiled at her. He looked exactly as his father did at his age, aside from sharing his mother's blonde hair. She smiled back at him before turning her attention to her second son.  His eyes, matching hers, were a deep green. He looked most like his mother, again sharing her blonde hair, but had his father's smile. She smiled as he winked at her. Her little trouble maker.  Her third son, the eldest from her second husband, had her green eyes and his father's dark brown hair. It fell in shaggy locks to his collar while his two elder brother's kept theirs short. She smiled at him as he dipped his head in respect. "Mother," he said, raising his eyes to meet hers.  Finally, she turned her attention to her youngest son. His hazel eyes were the combination of both of his parents. They flashed from green to brown, mixing in between. His dark brown hair, while not as long as his brother's, was shaggy and unkempt. The baby of the family, he was the most calculating one. He was the one not to cross. His eyes smiled happily, letting her know how much he missed her.  "My sons," she addressed them all. "I have news, both good and bad, and I fear you are late to our meeting. Please, join me."With a waive of her hand, the images dissapeared. She stepped out of her chambers and into the throne room. Her steps echoed in the empty hall as she took her place on the throne. She waived her hand again and her four sons appeared before her. Each knelt before their mother. Smiling, she bade them to stand. "My sons," she began, taking a deep breath. "I have news and direction for you four. I have had a vision. It seems that it is your time to take my throne." Her sons opened their mouths as if to protest. She lifted her left hand, biding them silence. "It will not be immediate, but my time is coming soon. Each of you are slated to take a season and rein over it, controling and assisting as you are needed. But," she said, her smile fading, "none of you can do this alone I'm afraid. You must find your new queens." She raised her right hand and the air shimmered between them. "Come, there is much for each of you to do." She stood and stepped into the shimmering air. Her son's followed without hesitation. The five disappeared from the throne room, leaving nothing but the empty room and the echo of their departing steps.
