A STEP CLOSER
The first thing the next morning, Carlos went to the police to report Blanca missing, only to learn her uncle Julio had already done so. The desk officer apologized, but had nothing else to tell him. Carlos didn’t hold much hope that they would even bother to find Blanca.
After a day’s work he performed almost unconsciously, Carlos ate leftovers without tasting anything. He decided to call on Blanca’s aunt and uncle for any ideas they might have about how to find her.
As he hustled up the cracked concrete path to Julio and Maria’s home, he could not help but picture Blanca’s beautiful, sweet face. How he missed her. Each day she was absent made him worry more. He couldn’t bear to never hear from her again.
