Chapter Thirty-Five
After weeks, the inexperienced team of Marshals joining Linda Rankin in escorting El Gordo to the court, there to meet with his lawyers and later go before the judge, learn that Deputy Marshal Linda has many years with the Marshals service and needs not be guided or instructed. Slowly she earns their trust and while her suggestions are not commands, she is rarely questioned.
Finally there comes a scheduled court appearance where her team arrives early and learns that the team of outrageously expensive attorneys is to be delayed. Thus El Gordo and another young Marshal sit waiting within the quiet room, El Gordo well tethered in cuffs and shackles.
