Chapter Seventeen
“It’s ending,” I told her. It was Monday after the affair Linda’s shop.
“Have they said so?” Joanna asked.
“No. But after what just happened, I’m sure my initiation is almost over.” I wanted to tell her about the proprietor of the shop she frequented, about the necklace and the ring, and every detail of the s****l event that remarkable night. Instead, I satisfied myself with only cursory details. Someday, perhaps, I could tell her everything. But since the club had targeted Joanna for membership, it would be unfair to destroy the excitement or the surprises. I was afraid I’d already told her too much, having spoken so frankly about the events I’d experienced.
