CHAPTER 10
ELLE'S P.O.V
"Mama!" Dorcas exclaimed, pointing to the water on the table.
"You want water?" I asked, and she nodded her head. I handed her the water, and then Maya came asking for the same thing.
I sighed, feeling overwhelmed. Things hadn't been going well for me since I went to the club a month ago. But I wanted to spend more time with my children. No one would look after them better than me.
As I sat on the couch folding their clothes, they played with their toys on the floor. Sometimes I couldn't believe they were my children. I thanked God for giving me such wonderful babies.
Eric had called me yesterday, asking when I would start work. I told him I didn't know. Maya walked over to me, sat on my lap, and pointed to my breast.
"Mama," she said.
I laughed. "No way, girl. You've sucked enough already."
She pouted, and then she started to cry. I took her to the kitchen to prepare something for them. Dorcas was sleeping on the floor.
I chuckled at her position. Since yesterday, they had refused to eat anything except breast milk. I didn't know why. So, I booked an appointment at Hope Hospital to see a pediatrician.
I tried to calm Maya down, but she kept crying. I gave her her favorite toy, Bobo, but she threw it away.
"Girl, be careful with your temper," I said, trying to soothe her.
As I warmed up their food, my phone rang. I looked at the caller ID and was shocked to see Lucas's name. It had been almost a month since I'd heard from him.
ELLE: "Hello?"
LUCAS: "Hello, how are you and the children?"
ELLE: "We're fine... shhh, Maya, it's okay."
LUCAS: "Good. Why is she crying?"
ELLE: "I think she's hungry. I'm warming up their food when you called."
LUCAS: "Okay, I'm back from my trip. So, I'll be at your place this evening when I close from work."
ELLE: "What!... I'm sorry, okay, we'll be expecting you."
LUCAS: "Okay, bye."
ELLE: "Bye."
I placed Maya in her high chair, and due to her crying, Dorcas woke up. I placed her in her high chair as well.
I put their food in front of them and sat between them. "Girls, your daddy is coming to see you for the first time."
Part of me was happy they would get to know their father and have him in their life. But another part of me was afraid he would take them away from me. I couldn't live a single moment without them.
He was rich and powerful. I had to call Jessica, but she was visiting a sick family member at the hospital, so we couldn't talk.
Later in the day, the kids and I took a nap. I woke up and checked the time – 5:39 PM.
I rushed to the kids' room. They were already up, playing in their crib. "Come on, girls, your daddy will be here any moment now."
I had to bathe them quickly. I washed them down, showered myself, and got dressed. I put on their dresses and did their hair nicely.
Just as I finished, I heard the doorbell.
LUCAS'S P.O.V
I'd been in the city for three days, deciding when to visit my children. I discussed it with Eva, and she told me to go visit them today, before she invited them to our house for dinner. I also informed Dante about my plans.
I decided to call Elle and let her know I'd come over after work. I got home early, around 4:30 PM, and quickly showered and got ready. I picked up the gifts I bought for the twins and headed downstairs, ready to leave.
As I reached for my car keys, Eva called out to me. "Lucas!"
"Yes?" I replied.
"Take this," Eva said, handing me a plate of chocolate cookies. "I made them for the twins."
I smiled, taking the plate from her. "Wow, Eva, thanks!"
Eva smiled back. "Don't thank me. They're my grandchildren too."
I kissed her cheeks. "Bye, Eva."
"Bye, Lucas," she replied.
Ten minutes later, I arrived at Elle's front door. I felt a surge of nervousness, which was unusual for me.
I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself down. "Gosh, Lucas, you're going to see your children, not the president. Why are you nervous?"
I reminded myself to be happy and excited. I was about to meet my children for the first time!
I took another deep breath, composed myself, and pressed the doorbell. I waited for a moment, and when there was no answer, I pressed the bell again.
Just as I was about to press it a third time, the door opened. Elle stood before me, looking beautiful.
"Hi... Elle," I said, trying to sound casual.
"Hi... Lucas," she replied, smiling.
I walked in, and Elle offered to take the gifts from me. "Oh, okay, I just brought them some gifts. I don't know if they'll like it or not."
Elle smiled reassuringly. "It's okay, Lucas. They'll like it."
Eva's cookies caught Elle's attention. "Wow, cookies! They smell good."
Elle led me to the living room, and I sat down, feeling a mix of excitement and nerves.
"My palms are sweating," I thought to myself. "Please have a seat, I'll go get them," Elle said.
I sat down, took a deep breath, and prepared myself to meet my children.
"Are you ready, Lucas?" I thought to myself.
Elle walked back into the room, holding the twins' hands. They looked up at me with big, curious eyes, and I felt my heart melt.
"God, they're beautiful!" I thought, frozen in awe. "They're the female version of me!"
The twins hid behind Elle's legs, looking shy. Elle laughed. "I think they're shy."
I smiled, feeling a little disappointed but also understanding. "They were different when they saw Dante," Elle said.
I raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Really?"
Elle nodded. "Yeah, they were a little bit friendlier."
I looked at the twins, feeling a pang of curiosity. "But why are they shy around me?"
Elle smiled. "Maya, Dorcas, say hi to Daddy."
I was taken aback by what Elle said next.
