Chapter 29It was gusty and cold and dark the night I was to meet with Alec. My mind raced all the way to Park Street, heart in my throat as I mounted the station steps back into the wind, right on time for my rendezvous. Alec’s e-mails had all been funny and clever, but I really had no idea what to expect, aside from the fact that he’d be wearing a red sweater. It turned out to be a red-and-gray argyle sweater, and Alec turned out to be a rather adorable nerd. I spotted him across the coffee shop, face aglow from the silver MacBook open before him on the table in the corner. Christmas decorations sparkled behind him beneath the track lighting. He suddenly looked exactly how I thought he should. I crossed the room and steadied my voice. “Alec?” He looked up, seeming surprised. “Adrian?”
