CHAPTER EIGHT By the time Jake and I were finishing senior year of high school and planning for college, life had changed dramatically for me. I was in love. Ben Coleman, my crush since sophomore year, who still "didn't have an oar" according to Jake, had finally noticed me. Gladys had been kind enough to sew new clothes for me and to teach me a little bit about hair and makeup.
