CHAPTER THIRTY-SIX

He walked straight ahead and the breathing of whatever it was grew louder. Then finally he began to see two red glowing lights hanging in the air. Though he wasn’t even sure if they were lights or not. But that didn’t stop him from going. As he reached about ten feet from the two glowing lights. It roared again. Very loudly that he felt his eardrums were about to burst. And he felt its drool impact his face. The creature, or whatever it was, began breathing heavier and somewhat angrily. “Who are you?” He shouted, but it just roared again. Instead of going back, he moved closer to the creature. And about five feet from it. He realized those red glowing lights were its eyes. He waved his wand yet again and the light at the tip of it grew brighter. Enough to light up the creatures’ paws. “What are you?” Trevor asked as he went closer to him. He knew he was taking a big risk. What if it eats him? But the bastard was showing his freaking bravery. Then finally he saw the chains on its front legs and his shoulders relax a bit. It wouldn’t dismember him, even if it wanted to. It was a black, demonic-looking dog. High enough to reach his midsection. Vast red glowing eyes. And big paws to cover Trevor’s foot. He looked at it and swallowed loudly. He began rounding it. Examining everything on it. It had something like a protective armor on its stomach, and its back. A long enough tail to act as a belt for Trevor. Then he saw that they had covered its back legs as well. As he moved to face it again, he saw a metal collar on its neck and a chain protruding from the floor to its neck. Drool was coming out of its malicious mouth, which was bug enough to cut a man in half. “What freaking thing did you do to end up here?” Trevor asked, looking directly into the dog’s red eyes. “Minding my own business,” the dog said. Trevor jumped back. His eyes wide open. “You can talk?” “Oh, no, that was my ass talking,” it said sarcastically. “You are a funny one, aren’t you?” The dog dipped its head, and Trevor went on, “Is there no light in here? It’s very dark and creepy.” “I thought you were supposed to know that. Aren’t you the owner of this house? I knew you wouldn’t be capable of taking care of this house more than me,” the dog made an angry impression and looked away. “How are you related to this house? And I know how to take care of this house. So don’t tell me bullshit,” Trevor replied. “If you knew, then you would be able to understand what it keeps telling you. But now you don’t. And I’m you, cousin i***t. Didn’t your parents teach you anything about our family history?” It scolded. The air at the back of his neck stood on end. His cousin? What the hell was this now? A freaking demonic-looking dog. His cousin? This was nothing but some piece of s**t news. “Can you explain the cousin part?” Trevor asked, looking attentively at the dog. “I told grandfather, but that old man just couldn’t listen.” “What the hell are you.......” Before he could finalize his sentence, Death spoke in Trevor’s mind, which was weird altogether. “I have to go. But I will be back. You need to explain yourself, dog.” “I will be here. It’s not like I have any choice anyway,” the dog said lamely. “Whatever,” he said and winked out of sight. Then seconds later, he appeared in front of the academy. But took two steps back upon seeing the expression on their faces. He bumped into the glass containing the creep ass doll. He looked at it, wondering what the hell it did to end up in Santa’s dan. But blushed the thought away. “Why the hell did you have to call me here? I was in the middle of some family matters. And how did you connect your thoughts into my mind?” He looked at Death. “Well, you asked us to help you, and we have made our decision. And I can communicate with you due to the blood relation I have with your father,” Death replied. “And we don’t care about your family matters, either. You just asked us a question and left,” Hope said. “Whatever. So are you going to help me find the bastard who killed my family,, or you are good for nothing and killing wouldn’t affect me in the slightest?” He smirked. “When you put it that way. We will help you. But don’t tell anyone we are doing it. Or else her people will come for us and neither you nor your werewolf friend can stop them from killing us,” Death replied. “Dude, it is she. And to think I was fearing you bastards.” “I don’t think you have heard of her. But I think the way she killed your friends might have given you an idea,” Hope spoke. “Either way, she is a woman. So, she stands no chance against me. So, where does she leave? Here in Lusaka or elsewhere?” “We don’t know, man,” Death replied. “What do you mean, you don’t know? You were working together. So, surely, you must know where she leaves or something,” he demanded. “We never really met. She only sent her men to deliver her messages,” Hope spoke. “I never thought you were that stupid. You bastards always end up betraying each other. So, not knowing about your partner is a foolish and dumb move,” Trevor said. “Stay within your lengths’ child. Or we will change our minds about helping you,” Death scolded. “Yes sir, I will, Trevor dipped his head. “Now, do you know anything that can help us?” “Not really. But I think it might lead to something,” Hope said. Before he could even answer, Mutale appeared beside him. He looked at the boy studiously, “how the hell were you able to shadow walk inside this place? I don’t remember being you here.” “It’s a long story. But now, we have important matters to attend to,” Mutale said, changing the topic. “What the hell is it now? These two bastards interrupted me when I was just about to hear something significant,” he glared at Death and Hope. “And you just did the same,” he looked at the boy again, “now what seems to be the problem?” “It’s uncle Sebastian. So if I go near them as well, they will start getting weak?” Mutale looked at the academies. “Mutale focus. What about Sebastian?” “He has gone to fight the shadow monster. We asked him to wait for you, or at least tell you about it. But he said you have too many things on your plate. So, he will deal with this alone. But that’s bullshit. You need to follow him now,” Mutale said. “He will hear from me. I will be back you, bastards,” he looked at Death and Hope. “Let’s go,” he touched Mutale, and they winked out of sight. Seconds later, they appeared in the living room. Natasha stood up and went to Trevor. “Please, go after him, Trevor. He is too stubborn,” she cried. “Yes, sister-in-law, I’m going. Don’t worry, ok?” He wiped her tears. “Uncle, can we come? We might be of help. I mean, they are our kind. So, we have to help in some way,” Frazer spoke. “You will help when your time comes, ok? Now, just keep on training. Anyway, I will see you guys later,” and he shadow walked. Then seconds later appeared in front of Sebastian’s house. To his surprise, there was no danger there. Everything looked in order. The werewolves were sleeping peacefully in the yard, and they locked the door to the house. Was this a joke or what? He had important matters to attend to. Or maybe it was a trap? He began walking, as light as a feather. He rounded the house and saw nothing unusual. Then he went to the front door and tried to open it, but it was locked. “Martin,” he whispered, not to alarm others. But no one replied. Then he took the phone from his pocket and called. After a few minutes, a man answered. “Martin, it’s Trevor. I’m at the door.” “Oh, Trevor. Give me a second, I will be there,” Martin said, sounding sleepy. “Just hurry,” without waiting for the man’s reply, he hung up. His heart increased its hammering. Where could Sebastian be? If he went to fight the shadow king, why is everything piece at the werewolves? Could he have been kidn*pped? Then his questions were burnished as the door opened. “Trevor, come in,” Martin said, and they went inside. “Is everything ok? I mean, it’s late for you to be visiting.” “Have you seen Sebastian? Where you attacked by the shadow king again?” He began pacing. “No, ever since he chased it the previous time. It has never been here. Why do you ask? Is my alpha ok?” “I don’t think so. I was busy with something when Mutale told me Sebastian came to fight the shadow king again,” he explained. “What?” He gasped and gestured for them to sit down. The house was dim. The only source of light was coming from two lamp stands on either side of the room. It was as perfect as Sebastian and his family left it. Though they were a bit of stain here and there. But it wasn’t that noticeable. “So you mean, the shadow king was never here?” Trevor asked. “No, it was it. Do you think someone trapped him?” Martin asked. “I’m not certain. But I’m praying that is the case, man. Anyway, I have to go. I have to get to the bottom of this s**t. As soon as possible,” Trevor got up. “Please keep me updated, eh?” Martin walked Trevor to the door. Then just as they went out of the house, they saw a male figure was entering the gate. Trevor quickly held his hand, and the man got pulled and ended up in Trevor’s hand. “You,” he let the man go. “Arron, I think we made it clear that you shouldn’t be going outside,” Martin said. “I had important matters to attend to,” Arron said. “What business?” Trevor asked, looking at the man attentively. “Personal matters, wizard. Just mind your business,” the man said. “Not now, you two. Trevor, aren’t you supposed to be somewhere? I will deal with Arron,” Martin spoke. “If he misbehavior again, please tell me. I’ll teach him an unforgettable lesson,” Trevor said and winked out of sight. Then, seconds later, he appeared in his living room. Everyone got up and looked at Trevor as he approached them. “Trevor, where is my husband?” Natasha asked. “That’s what I came here to find out, Natasha. Apparently, there hadn’t been an attack on the werewolves. So, presumably someone lied to him,” he went and sat down. “What?” she gasped. “Yeah, I talked to Martin. And he told me the shadow king didn’t attack them today.” “Then where the hell is my husband? I told you if anything happens to him, I will kill you,” she looked at Trevor, eyes burning with anger. “Natasha, who is this Trevor’s fault? Your husband left here own his own. We even asked him to wait for Trevor, but he refused. So, I don’t think you are being fair to him,” Loveness said. “If the shadow king didn’t take him, then it was one of the people after Trevor’s life. So, this is his fault. And Loveness, you recently joined this game. We have been through s**t all because of him. So, if anything happens to Sebastian, you will see my worst side, Trevor.” “Mother, I don’t think you should be blaming uncle for this,” Mwansa said. “Mwansa, these are adult matters. And Natasha, you are right. This is my fault. Now, let me tell you one thing. I will make sure your husband comes home safe and sound.” He got up and left. Loveness tried to follow,, but he gestured for her to sit down. He climbed the stairs and locked himself inside his bedroom. “Where the hell could he be? Which one of these bastards took him? Could it be Reyar? Maybe. Because the academies are at my feet,” he thought. Then he stopped pacing and sat down on the bed. His mind running miles from him. He just can’t let another family member die. That to his best friend. A brother. He just has to find him, and fast.
