CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE

He waved his wand, and the fireplace got lit again. He moved close to it since I was now back to reality. The little snowman began poking his leg. He looked at it. And it gestured for its melting body. “Oh, sorry,” with another wave of his wand, a blackish cloud formed on top of it, and snowflakes began following. “That’s better right?” It nodded. Seconds later, the other two snowmen moved to join Trevor and their little brother. As they stood close to their brother, the cloud increased in size to accommodate all of them. “What are your names buy the way?” I looked at them. “Oh, you can’t speak. But mine is Trevor,” he looked at them rather sympathetically. But the little snowman bent and began to write something on the now snow floor. Trevor bent his head as well to take a good look. “De..... Delu.... Delur. Your name is Delur?” The little snowman nodded. “Nice,” but in his mind, he was saying what a weird name. Then the other two snowmen bent and wrote something as well. With a closer look, he said, “Nigram and Nief.” They nodded. “Nice,” still thinking the names were weird. “So you can write and read then?” They nodded. “But you just wrote your names.” The little snowman pointed at itself while looking at Trevor. “You,” Trevor said, knowing that it was trying to communicate with him. The little snowman made a flipping pages gesture. “Book,” it waved a NO sign. Stroking his head, then said, “learn,” it nodded excitedly. Then it pointed at its name, “name,” Trevor said. “You, learn, name. That doesn’t make sense,” he looked at it. The snowman kept repeating the signs until after five minutes he finally understood. “You only know.....how to write your names?” They all nodded, “I’m getting a hang of this right?” he looked at them, his smile stretching. But they were nodding in a disapproving way. After a few minutes, he looked at his wristwatch. Not knowing if the time was meant for earth or for Yarrum. But I was getting worried. It has been an hour ever since Reyar left. She was the only one who knew where Egayov was keeping his family. What if something happened to them? No. He brushed the thought away. He got up from the fireplace and went to sit on an armchair. Lost in thoughts. Then the little snowman followed, leaving the other two with the snowy cloud. It was scratching Trevor’s legs, trying to climb on his thighs. He noticed and lifted it. “Yes. Do you need anything, little one?” He asked in a fatherly tone. The snowman just looked at him. And leaned its head on his chest. “Oh, someone wants to sleep, I see.” He looked at it and it was fast asleep. He leaned on the chair himself. He never got the chance to see Justine and Mulenga grow up. And when he had the chance to see his child grow up. Some assholes wanted to take that from me. No way. He thought. He glanced back at the door, and there was no sign of Reyar. Slowly, his eyes were getting heavier. And seldom did he know they were now closed. Already halfway to the dream world. He jumped from the armchair and the poor snowman went flying, but luckily landed on the couch. Trevor’s eyes were blazing. One white-ish while the other flame-like color. His veins glowing as bright as they have ever glowed. The snowmen looked at him. Dumbstruck. “Trevor,” Reyar emerged from the other room, “relax, will you? Here will hate you? Relax, just ok,” she touched his shoulder. He took a deep breath and his veins began dimming down. With another deep breath. They were completely shut, even his eyes. “What’s happen, Trevor?” Reyar asked and rounded the chair to look at him. “Bad dream,” he sighed and sat down. Then seconds later notices Delur. Looking at him in a way that he was even wondering if it was the same snowman who almost killed him the previous time. “Sorry Delur,” he said and kneed in front of it. “Are you ok?” Reyar asked. He spun, “you are back? Show me where to find Egayov. My time is getting slim with each passing second,” he got up. “But careful. The monsters are dangerous,” Reyar said. “No problem, just show me where he is. That bastard needs to be dealt with,” his face burning with anger. Reyar moved and opened a gateway five feet from Trevor. “Will lead few feet from Egayov's house,” she said. “Alright,” he walked forward then stopped a foot from the gateway, “are you coming?” He asked her, but she said no. Then I noticed the snowmen standing next to him. “But they are coming. I can use a hand. Of course, with your permission,” he took a bow. “You take them,” she stretched her weirdly shaped mouth into a grin. “Hurry, gateway, close in two minutes,” she added. Trevor turned and for sure the gateway was closing. And judging by how much energy shadow walking took from him. He thought creating a gateway would have done the same to her. So he promptly jumped into it and the snowmen followed behind. Just as they landed on the snow ground, the gateway winked shut. If they delayed longer, it would have cut them in half. Just the thought made Trevor’s hair stand. He surveyed the place and saw that they were on top of a mountain as he looked down and saw the houses. He glanced up and there stood a vast castle-like place, dressed in nothing but snow. That must be where Egayov was keeping his family. He stared down at the snowmen, “shall we?” Without delaying for them to start making gestures and stuff, he began walking. Waiting for their answer might have taken a good two minutes. And that was what he didn’t have. As they climbed the mountain, the snow castle was becoming bigger and bigger. And he saw that there was a long wall fence around the castle. As they reached about twenty feet from the castle. Trevor held his hand to stop the snowmen from moving and they headed into the nearby trees. If this was the place, then it was well guided by those invisible monsters. So into the trees, they went. They walked forward and then the little snowman pulled Trevor’s feet. He looked down, and the snowman pointed ahead. Apparently, Trevor was lost in thoughts again to notice a giant of a man standing outside the snow wall fence. And if he took another step, the giant was surely going to spot him. He glanced back at the snowmen. The older one moved a few feet from its brothers. The middle one was poking at its older brother as the little one tiptoed to the other side and slammed the older one. He immediately knew what they were trying to tell him. “Good idea. Now I want you to be as psychopathic as ever. Not those faces I saw back at Reyar’s house, ok?” They nodded eagerly. “You distract the giant. I will creep up on him and try to obliterate him, ok?” They nodded once more. “Go.” Without further ado, they walked out of the trees and stood a good five feet from the giant. Knowing that the giant man was too high to notice them. They moved their hands and tree snowballs erupted from the ground. Then they moved their hands towards the giant man, and the snowballs went flying and hit the giant’s face. The giant man growled fiercely, and Trevor noticed smoke coming out of the giant’s tomato-shaped nose. The giant looked below and spotted the snowmen. His eyes burning with anger. But that seemed to subside upon seeing them. Presumably, he thought they were nothing but toys to him. He took only one step, shaking the snow ground as his foot touched it again and reached where the snowmen were standing. Trevor watched as the little snowman charged and began climbing the giants’ feet. The two began sending snowball and blue fire bolts at the giant. But none seem to have everlasting pain. The giant noticed the little snowman now on his thigh. Then, with just a brush on the snowman, the poor thing went down and slammed the ground. Trevor waved his wand and emerged behind the giant. “Pick on someone you own size jark-ass,” Trevor said. And before the giant swiveled to see who just cursed him, Trevor gave his wand another casual flick, and the giant went sailing past the snowmen as a jet of light from Trevor’s wand hit it. The giant knocked most of the trees as it went flipping down the mountain. Flew a few seconds. Then slammed its neck back on the snow. Likely breaking its neck bone. Trevor turned and went running towards the snowmen. I kneed and picked the little one up. “Careful next time. You just can’t go charging towards a thing like that. And be more psychopathic, will you? Those fire bolts were doing nothing,” he said, making sure to keep his voice casual not to hate their feelings. “Let’s go and find a way in. If I get a glimpse of the inside, then I can shadow walk us in.” They began walking with total vigilance. Before they took a corner, Trevor peeled the other side. And about fifty feet stood another giant. With filthy clothes. A green shirt and a dirty brown shirt. Or maybe it was another color, but because of the dirty, the color changed. He looked back again and spotted a giant coming their way. Luckily, the giant was distracted by two white owls who seemed to be fighting in the air. He looked from the other giant to the other. Thinking of something to do, then a thought hit him just as the giant stopped watching the owls as they flew away. “Demon powers and archangel powers. Sweet,” a smile stretched on his face. He flexed his shoulders, and the wings emerged. He picked the snowmen the little one on his shoulder while the other two were in his hands. He then flapped the wings just as quickly and flew upwards. The wall fence was approximately thrice his house's wall fence. And finally, he reached the top and was able to see the inside. Two more giants stood in front of the entrance to the castle. He looked to the other side and saw two more playing chase. Surrounded by about five more giants. He flew to examine the place even more. Then something caught his eyes. Two snowmen stood in front of a warehouse-looking place. But those were huge. Unlike the ones with him. The snowman on his shoulder was beating his back to signal him about the two snowmen standing guard at the warehouse place. “I have seen them, Delur,” he said as he flew past them. They rounded on top of the castle for a few more minutes, than he spotted a giant and snowman-free place. Did a perfect flip in the air and landed on the snow ground? He looked around and put the snowmen down. Then flexed his shoulders again, his one white and one black wing vanished out of sight. He began walking to his left, and the snowman followed. after a few steps, they reached a door-looking thing. Then he spotted the doorknob. Bingo. Ticket inside the castle. He touched the handle and began opening slowly. He peeled inside and opened the door enough for him and the snowmen to pass after seeing that anyone did not occupy it. “How stupid. I thought this place would be more protected,” he said as he examined the place even more. The inside was sparkling as the walls glittered by the chandelier. It was though an empty room except for a bed shaped like ice in the corner. It might have been one of the giants’ rooms. Then his heart skipped a beat as he heard footsteps approaching from the other side. He looked around for a place to hide, but the place was as empty as ever. It was over. They were caught. If he doesn’t come up with a plan soon, then he might as well say bye to his family.
