I’m walking through complete darkness. I try to feel for anything around me but there is nothing. I move forward with my hands stretched out.
A cold chill runs up my spine. Then, I hear breathing coming from behind me. I turn and freeze.
“Hello? Is…is someone there?” I’m so nervous and shaking all over. Just when I think my knees will give a bright yellow and orange light spreads through the darkness to illuminate all of my surroundings. The odd thing is that the only space around me is the light it’s self. I walk closer to the light, feeling its safe and warm presence.
I can now make out that the light is emitting from a stone.
“Allura do not be afraid.” I hear an ethereal voice fills the space around me. Somehow I know that it is no threat to me. It comes in peace.
“Touch the stone dear one so I may gift you.”
Without hesitation I lift my finger to the stone and touch it. I’m not sure what possessed me to do so, I just knew I had to.
The light moves through my finger and into my body, making my skin aluminate with the bright light.
“Is this real?” I ask the light.
“Yes my dear. I am gifting you with the power to wield fire. You are the mate of my son, Valtor. He is good and honorable and I have chosen for your paths to cross so you may claim each other as mates. He will need you to fight beside him and help right the wrongs my other sons and daughters have created.”
I listen to the words and they bury into my soul as if they are sewn into my heart.
“When you wake you will be captured by the resistance, they are too my sons and daughters. Their intentions are pure but they have lost their way. You must show them the way.”
Her voice begins to fade.
“You must activate your power to show them.”
I know she is done now and her light is fading away.
“Wait! What does this all mean? How do I know what to do?”
But I know she is gone.
I wake up in a haze but a woman’s voice lingers in my head as a faint whisper. I remember every word she said and repeat it back to myself as I come back to reality.
Something about me has changed. I no longer feel weak or alone. I feel strong and more alive than ever. Then, I remember Valtor injected me with the serums. Could that be it? Maybe but it feels like more than that. I feel raw power coursing through me. It whips around inside of me waiting to obey my commands, the fire. Yes, it is all real.
The resistance has captured us.
My eyes come into focus. The room is pitch black but I can somehow see everything and I notice that I am in a bed and my clothes remain on. Well, that’s a plus. My weapons are gone but that is to be expected.
“Valtor?” I say his name but I know he is not in this room with me.
The lights blaze bright and I see everything in the room is white making it seem even brighter.
“Hello?” I say squinting.
I am met with silence while moments pass.
Then, the wall breaks open and a tall woman with small gray horns walks in holding a folded up chair. She has long silver hair and pointed ears. Her face is pearly white and she has kind blue eyes. She looks like she could be sweet but her black leather body suit screams cat woman. She even rocks black leather heels with it.
“Hello, I’m Kit. What is your name?” She walks over to me and opens her chair to sit.
I remember the dream telling me to do as they request.
“Allura Foxlily from Earth.” I offer up where I’m from, knowing it’s probably her next question.
Her mouth breaks into a warming smile. “Good.”
“You were traveling with a man.” She states this as an observation.
I nod yes. “Valtor. May I see him?”
“If you continue to be cooperative, you will see him shortly.” She promises.
“Has he claimed you as his mate?”
“No.”
“Are you aware of who Valtor is?”
“He told me he is a warrior.” I say truthfully.
“He is more than just a warrior. He is one of the five pure blood lines. All five men recently left on a ship to your planet and came back with five females, one of which is you. These men play a crucial role in Sylvaria, being the heirs to their peoples thrones.” She says.
“Oh, I didn’t know.” Is all I can say as I give myself time to digest this information. So is Valtor some kind of prince? Why wouldn’t he tell me that?
I look at Kit and cut to the chase.
“I know you don’t want humans here and why.” I know they don’t want us here because they fear the outcome of reproducing with us.
She looks at me as if she is surprised by my directness. I am a journalist after all. I know how to get to the bottom of things.
I continue speaking,”I understand your concerns of defects in reproduction and I think those concerns are valid, but what if humans could be the solution for your people? Wouldn’t it be worth knowing for sure?” I ask.
She looks me over as if just realizing I am an intelligent species. She nods,“Of course it is worth it but the risk is too great. We could blindly be creating a monster. So, unless you can give me proof from the godess herself that you are his mate, then you will have to make a choice. Either take away your ability to have children and stay with Valtor or we can return you to earth.” She looks at me with genuine pity in her eyes. She hates she has to make me choose.
“Okay, but I need to speak with him first before I make a decision because what if I choose him but he does not choose me?” I ask cautiously not wanting to give my true intentions away. I’m trying to doing everything I can to have Valtor next to me. I need to know he is okay and they haven’t hurt him.
Also, I need to ask him about why he didn’t tell me he is a prince and speak to him about my interaction with the goddess. How can I activate my power? I feel its presence but there is something missing from it like a puzzle piece.
Kit has been quiet this whole time while I’ve been thinking and it’s starting to feel uncomfortable. She turns her head curiously at the wall in-front of us. If I’m not mistaken she seems to be straining to hear something. She looks back at me.
I stare at her sideways letting her know I saw her being weird. Then I say,”Are you listening to something?”
“Yes, my commander is speaking to me. I let him know your wishes. He will allow you to talk with Valtor while being heavily supervised.” Okay so I guess she can head minds. I wonder if she can read my mind.
I scowl at her,”What is wrong with him? Did you do something to him?” I ask accusingly, feeling a surge of possessiveness coming over me.
Noticing my state of unease she quickly tells me he is okay and nothing is wrong with him physically.
“His beast.” I say.
She nods yes.
“I can calm his beast, I’ve done it before and I can do it again.” I look at her and square my shoulders confidently.
“Alright, we have clearance. Follow me Ms Foxlily.”
