Act VI: A New Dawn The Silver-Vane Pack did not return to the Whisperwood as enemies. They returned as subjects. Under the decree of the Blessed Luna, the two packs were unified. The artificial separation between the "human" wolves and the primordial beasts was dissolved. The cold-iron and wolfsbane that had lined the Lunarium were torn out, thrown into the deepest fires of the Obsidian Citadel to be melted into plowshares and building tools. Three months after the Blood-Grave Eclipse, a coronation was held at the Moon-Grave. The quartz cathedral no longer pulsed with a bruised, violet light. It glowed with a warm, golden radiance, powered by the genuine connection between the people and the earth. Ayla stood on the high dais where Vardos had once sat. She wore a gown of silver silk, her long hair braided with winter roses. She no longer hid her eyes; they remained that striking, brilliant silver, a testament to her ascension. Kaelen stood beside her, his massive hand resting over hers. He wore a crown of obsidian and silver, but his eyes were reserved only for his mate. "Are you ready, my Queen?" he whispered, his voice full of a warmth that only she could evoke. Ayla looked out over the crater. Thousands of wolves—white, black, gray, and brown—stood together. There was no segregation. There were no Dullards. Under her rule, those who could not shift were given honored positions as scholars, healers, and architects; their spirits were recognized as unique, not broken. She closed her eyes and opened her mind. The pack-link expanded. It didn't feel like a cage. It felt like an ocean. She felt the joy of the pups playing in the snow, the strength of the warriors guarding the borders, the wisdom of the elders sitting by the fires. She felt them all, and they felt her—their anchor, their mother, their protector. Ayla opened her eyes and looked up at the midday sun, which was accompanied by the faint, silver outline of the crescent moon. "Let the hunt begin," she said. And as one, a thousand wolves howled into the dawn, their voices carrying the song of a pack finally made whole.
