Chapter Four- Media w***e

1251 Words
I quickly drive to the hospital Sam's in. Why would she do this to herself? She seemed so normal the last time we spoke. I wanted to cry, hit my head on the dashboard each time I stopped at a red light. I ran inside the hospital, going to the front desk asking the kind lady in the blue robe, "What room is Samantha Reed's?" She checks her computer but just at the right time I see her mom come up at me with her eyes red and puffy. Sadness filling my body entirely as my mind bottled. My heart was beating so fast I wanted to faint. Am I dreaming? She came up to me and hugged me without saying a word. She pulled away and she chokes out, "S-Sam is . . . she's in a coma." My throat felt like it was clenching tighter and tighter. My insides being pushed around and my stomach was doing cartwheels. "Is she going to make it out of it?" I asked before my throat glued shut. She looked down and shrugged so limply. This doesn't add up at all. Sam out of all people wanting to kill herself? Ms. Reed fell to her knees and cried into my stomach, screaming and howling, "Why? Why my baby? Why. . . Why would she?" Everyone in the waiting room watches and the doctors nearby help her up and so do I. My mother finally arrived to the hospital. She's just as hysterical as I am. She looks like she has been crying also. Mother practically looked at Sam as my sister. Ms.Reed and I came and hugged my mother at the same time crying. Waiting impatiently patient to see which doctor will tell us how Sam is doing. I was running a thousand miles an hour through my head and got tired. It's 2 am and we're still in this busy hospital. The smell of medicine, depression, and death that lingers in the air makes me cradle together. "Karren, you both can go home. I'll just wait," Ms.Reed said completely out of energy. Her eyes barely staying open. My mom sitting beside her grabs her fragile hands saying, "We won't. We are staying right here." Ms.Reed looks like she's going to cry again. They got glossy and my heart skipped a beat once again. Now that I'm thinking about it . . . I've never really called Ms. Reed by her first name.Calling her Emma sounds so informal. This whole thing has gotten me to think about the small things.I’ve been trying to distract myself it seems. Like how I notice the nurse over there is wearing pink converses and she looks older than forty. But then it hits me, "Ms.Reed, do you have Sam's phone?" I ask. She looks at me and she digs in her purse, giving me Sam's cracked up iPhone. "I don't know her password." She says wiping her running nose. They both get more interested in what I'm thinking. Samantha told me her password a long time ago, she uses it for everything. I turn it on and typed in, "Dannywashere1" and like magic, I was in. It sorta made me smirk. Ever since she dated Danny in 10th grade, she turned all of her passwords into this. She was so obsessed with him at the time. I swiped continuously and I went to her messages and found nothing but her sexting with random guys. But, for her that was pretty typical. I clicked onto her f*******: and saw all the things she posted. Nothing but her in bikinis, and me and her taking random pictures everywhere. I went to her i********: and saw all of her pictures were deleted but she has 7k followers. When did that happen? She's always had 1k. I sat up from my seat and went to her timeline and scrolled down seeing nothing but the same videos posted repeatedly. The girl that was visible looked like Sam. Each caption on the video was different. -Ew, doesn't she have herpes? -Damn she's good! -SLUT GIVING ORAL! -That guy is lucky. Few I couldn’t read even read to myself. They were just so. . . foul. I swallow before playing the video. The Video: "Ha ha, you wanna do it here?" Sam says flirtatiously as it looks like they both go to some alley. Sam gets on her knees in front of the male while the camera is panned above her. "Yeah, put it in your mouth, beautiful." Sam laughs, pulling out the guy's length, kissing it before slowly guiding it through her mouth while her breasts are exposed. The camera gets a close-up and before the camera is flipped around and the guy is revealed cheekily smiling. I almost was about to die. . . . It was Leo. -9:00 am- It was about time for the bell to ring for 1st period and I already wanted to leave. I stayed hours on end at that hospital waiting to hear anything from the doctors about the condition Sam is in. It seemed like everyone already got the news and everyone looked and whispered every time I walked past them. I saw Ally at her locker and ran to catch her before she went off. She looked at me and smiled brightly, saying, "Good morning, sleeping beauty." I laughed dryly and I asked, "Where's Leo?" Her smile starts to slowly descend away from her face. She stutters and then answers with a question, "W-Why?" I could see the fear in her eyes as clear as a day with no clouds. "Nothing, I just need to know his location. Is he at school? Yes or no?” I ask getting pretty peevish. She looks away over my shoulder and I turn around. He looked so bright this morning. Not a care in the world. It looks like he dyed his tips a spicy red and wore his red vans and a white polo t-shirt. He smiled and stopped in front of me. "Good morning, KayKay," he said so casually. He hasn't called me that in ages. Longer than ages at that which felt so weird hearing him say that. Ally excuses herself down the hall with her books tucked under her arm. He knew why I was here.He knew why I'm so tired that my eyes have dark circles under them. He knew why I’m clearly disgusted. But I smiled casually at him, making it less obvious from what little he knows. "Oh, Leo! I'm coming to the party. I've recently found out all of my plans were canceled last night. Make sure you bring extra salsa and chips.I get pretty hungry at parties," I laughed sarcastically and walked away quickly wiping off my staged smile. God, just give me a reason not to just punch him. It's the end of school and as soon as I step into the front door of my house and slam it closed, I scream so loud, I give myself a headache. Little did I know, my mom on the couch in the living room. Looking straight at the TV and not looking at me on my knees, with tears in my eyes. She quietly says, "They found something else on Sam's phone." I slowly turn my head away from her, feeling my heart go to my throat. "Sam was getting paid for s*x," Mother says and all noise around me began to fade.
