Courage

1077 Words
Blair felt her heart slam her chest, the body lied lifeless, the head, mouth open, fangs still dripping with blood, but no signs of life, Wolfe was gone. The bear dropped the head and stepped over the carcass, Blair could feel the words through the lifeless red eyes, it didn't need to speak... "You're next" She felt her breath tremble, stood back, it was really a nightmare, it's, really a nightmare! She took another step back, how? How does she overcome this!? The memories of Wolfe came to her, thinking she might remember at least something good before she dies. "I'll protect you Blair" He was so stubborn. "Even if it costs me my life" That fool! "Run Blair!" He tried! He tried to protect her on his last breath. "He's too strong...!" Blair stopped stepping back. "Strong...?" It was her fault, her fault! She could have saved him! Instead she was a coward! She bucked her back, took a deep breath and let out an ungodly roar, the bear stopped it's advance, it's face still not changed, maybe it wants to see if she really did find courage to face death. "Did I?" She asked, it didn't understand her "The only thing here, who is in question of fearing death, truly is you! Do you? Hey you f*****g monster!? Do you fear death!?" She roared again and shifted a second time, the smoke rose above the trees, the bear now took a step back, it deepened it's snarl and hoisted it's bulk onto it's hind legs to seem more terrifying. Blair still stood looking down on it "Is that it? You want to prance on your hind legs as a last ditch effort to scare me!?" She roared again, but this time the force of the air leaving her lungs blew the bear over backwards, it squabbled and got to it's feet, then ran off into the dark. Blair leered at the thing scared off now, then glanced at Wolfe's corpse... Anger... Is this what the fire meant!? This is anger! But it's accompanied by hate! Which made it that much more pure! She roared and hauled her giant body forward as fast as she could. Three strides, it took only three, and her jaws snapped shut around the bear, this time it wasn't piercing action she looked for, but crushing! And she heard the result, the deep cracks of it's ribs was audible, she even felt the body collapse under her vice, not yet, she wanted it to experience more pain! She picked it up and with a swift flick from her neck chucked it directly up into the air, her strength so immense she saw it go high and become small as a dot, it's pain induced whine disappearing into the distance. She panted heavily looking down, she wasn't tired, she was angry, she felt different from her usual self! And somehow she felt there was no ultimatum, this is how she will stay! No mercy! No mercy! The bear came in and fell with a deep groundshaking thud, it bellowed hurling blood but she had him in her jaws again, biting down repeatedly, until it was nothing but a minced ball of unrecognizable carcass, she then threw it up and with one gulp swallowed it, licked her fangs... Done! "Wow, talk about bringing the pain! Dang Gully!" She heard a familiar voice behind her, she turned around to see Wolfe sitting there, giving her a little applause. "W, Wolfe?" "Yep, in the flesh" "But!? I saw your head get ripped off!" "Is that what happened to me!? Holy s**t!" She couldn't shift back to her human form, the amount of meat she took in prevented that, but she bent over and gave him a lick that shoved him from his feet. "Hey now! What's with the tongue!?" "I thought I lost you!" She cried. Wolfe saw the large tears in her eyes, he sighed "I'm sorry Blair, but tell me? Why didn't you run?" "It's, it's because... I don't want to be alone" He smiled, but she closed her eyes "No, that's not right, it's because I like you!" She said loudly turning away shyly. Wolfe stood up again "I like you too Blair" She turned back to him "Really?" "Yes, I'm sorry I scared you back there" She shook her head "It's fine, as long as you're ok" He looked in the direction they traveled before "So, how do you feel? Up for some more hunting?" Blair proudly rose her head "I feel like killing all of them tonight" "Good, let's head out then" He said chuckling. She turned and placed a paw in front of him "Jump on my back" "Huh? Why?" "Trust me, the speeds I run in this form is way too fast for you" "Oh really? What happened to being slow in that form?" "Fast, not quick, there is a difference" Blair said smiling. "Ok then" He said with a shrug and leapt high, then landed on her shoulders. "You ready?" "I'm looking forward to this..." He said snickering. "What?" She asked. "Have you ever seen a werewolf riding a wolf?" She laughed "There's always a first time for everything, hold on tight now" Wolfe grabbed two fists full of fur and braced, Blair drew into her strength again and launched through the trees, Wolfe wailed excitedly feeling the wind part his lips from his gums "This is awesome!" The traveling they did now was three times as fast as they did before, Blair thought it's best to do it this way, so she could digest that bastard of a meal, she giggled to herself, oh! So that's what Jeremy meant by an insult one can use freely. "Heya! I think you should pay attention going this fast! You might run right into a town!" Wolfe called. "Oh? What's wrong Wolfy!? This speed too much for you!?" She called laughing. "No! I'm serious! Do you even know what's ahead through these woods!?" "I can see over the trees! Don't worry!" After running for a while Blair could feel this expulsion of energy was working and already felt her stomach empty from digestion, she could shift back into her human form if she wanted to, but right now, it was way too much fun, she kept running until in the distance she saw light through the trees, making her slow down to a stop. "There it is... Logan country"
