Chapter 11

Percy was soon knocked out because of the pill, but I did not want to sleep because I knew that the darkness only held nightmares. “Sky, I am here if you want to talk.” Jay said comfortingly. “There is nothing to talk about. What is done is done no taking it back now. I guess in some way I deserved it.” I said, feeling the tears slowly running down my face. “NO! No one deserves to go through that. I might not know everything about you, but I sure as hell know that you did not deserve that. I mean someone who shares her food and the only thing that will help after what happens to people she barely knows definitely does not deserve it. So do not ever say that again.” He said to me sternly. I have only known this guy for three days and he already feels like the big brother I never had. “Okay. Thanks though.” I said, looking at him and he gave me a genuine smile. “You should get some rest.” He said to me, lying down on the ground. I followed his action and laid down in a fetal position. As soon as darkness overcame me, the nightmares began. Everything was replaying detail for detail and I shot up awake. Sweat was running down my forehead and my breathing was heavy. “Hey… hey it is okay.” Percy said as he rubbed my back through the bars. I slowly calmed down. “You okay now?” he asked, looking at me. It was still dark, which meant it was still night. I looked over to see that Jay was still asleep. “Yeah I am fine thank you.” I said, smiling at him. He laid back down and I followed. Because our cells were so small, it was like we were right beside each other. I stared at the roof not being able to fall asleep again. He must have sensed my struggling because he reached over and held my hand, lacing our fingers together. “I needed the money.” He said out of nowhere. “What?” I asked softly, not knowing what he was talking about. “The reason I am in here… I sold separate stash and they found out.” He looked at me expectantly. Is he expecting me to tell him my story? I decided to keep it about him. “What did you need the money for?” I asked and he looked away. Okay, I hit a nerve. “My mom has cancer and I need the money to pay the medical bills.” I saw a loose tear slip before he quickly wiped it away. Well, that is great. Pretty boy has issues. “I cannot keep my mouth shut.” I said, making both of us chuckle a bit. This is good. “I never had anything so I decided that I wanted everything and when it was time for me to, you know, grow up and get a life I chose the easy way out instead of working hard.” I said, not ready to tell him exactly what I meant. I guess somehow this week I have not only had bad experiences but I gained a big brother who was going to be my groom and a little brother who is just as damaged as the rest of us. I fell into a dreamless sleep.
