Adunni tried convincing herself she no longer cared about Damian.
But the moment she entered her room that evening, his voice replayed inside her head again.
“You don’t know everything.”
Those words bothered her more than she wanted to admit.
What exactly was he hiding?
Why did it always feel like Damian wanted to say something important before stopping himself?
Frustrated, Adunni threw her bag onto the bed and walked toward the mirror slowly. Her eyes looked tired.
Everything about her life felt emotionally exhausting.
One moment Damian acted cold and cruel.
The next moment he looked jealous, angry, and almost… hurt.
It made no sense.
Her phone buzzed softly again.
Jayden.
A small smile appeared on her face before she could stop it.
She answered immediately.
“Hello.”
“Well, somebody sounds happier today,” Jayden teased gently.
Adunni laughed softly for the first time all day.
“I’m trying.”
“That’s progress.”
His calm voice relaxed her instantly.
Unlike Damian, conversations with Jayden never felt emotionally dangerous. There were no mind games. No confusion. No pain hiding behind every sentence.
Just peace.
“What are you doing?” Jayden asked.
“Trying not to lose my mind.”
“That serious?”
“You have no idea.”
Jayden chuckled softly. “Then let me help.”
For the next hour, they spoke about everything except Damian.
Movies.
Childhood memories.
Dreams.
Jayden even convinced her to show him some of her fashion sketches through video call.
His reaction shocked her.
“Wait… you made these?”
Adunni looked shy suddenly. “They’re not that good.”
“Adunni,” he said seriously, “these are incredible.”
Nobody had complimented her work like that before.
Especially not Damian.
The realization hurt slightly.
Jayden noticed her expression change immediately.
“What happened?”
“Nothing.”
“It didn’t look like nothing.”
Adunni hesitated before speaking quietly.
“I just realized nobody ever believed in my dreams before.”
Jayden’s expression softened.
“Well, I do.”
That simple sentence touched her deeply.
Very deeply.
Meanwhile…
Damian sat inside his office at Cole Enterprises pretending to focus on work while failing miserably.
His laptop remained open untouched for almost twenty minutes.
Because once again…
His mind stayed completely on Adunni.
Femi walked inside holding coffee.
“You’re getting worse.”
Damian sighed tiredly. “Can you leave me alone today?”
“No.”
Femi sat down across from him.
“You’ve been angry since morning.”
Damian laughed bitterly.
“She’s moving on.”
“Well…” Femi shrugged. “You told her to.”
Damian clenched his jaw immediately.
“I didn’t think she actually would.”
Femi stared at him in disbelief.
“Bro, you publicly humiliated her.”
The room became silent.
Because no matter how much Damian avoided admitting it…
He knew he had gone too far.
Femi leaned forward carefully.
“You need to tell her the truth.”
Damian’s expression hardened instantly.
“No.”
“She deserves to know.”
“She’ll hate me.”
Femi sighed. “She already thinks you destroyed her for no reason.”
Damian looked away painfully.
Because the worst part was…
That wasn’t completely false.
Before either of them could continue, Damian’s phone rang.
Sabrina.
He ignored it immediately.
Femi smirked slightly.
“So are you finally ending things with your fake girlfriend?”
Damian rubbed frustrated hands over his face.
“She was never my girlfriend.”
“Tell her that.”
Unfortunately…
Sabrina had already started believing she mattered more than she actually did.
Back at school the next day, Adunni finally began feeling slightly normal again.
Until she overheard her name.
“She’s really talking to another guy already?”
“Maybe Damian dumped her because she cheated first.”
Adunni stopped walking immediately.
Three girls stood nearby gossiping loudly without realizing she could hear them.
“Honestly, I heard she begged Damian not to leave her.”
The girls burst into laughter.
Adunni felt humiliation burn through her chest instantly.
Before she could walk away quietly, another voice suddenly interrupted.
“That’s enough.”
Everybody turned.
Damian.
The entire hallway became silent immediately.
Damian looked furious.
The girls immediately became nervous.
“We were just joking—”
“Does it look like she’s laughing?” Damian snapped coldly.
Nobody spoke.
Adunni stood frozen in shock.
Again.
He was defending her.
One of the girls quickly apologized before dragging her friends away immediately.
Silence filled the hallway afterward.
Adunni looked at Damian carefully.
“Why do you keep doing that?”
His expression softened slightly.
“Doing what?”
“Acting like you care.”
That question hit him hard.
Because the truth was…
He cared too much.
But before Damian could answer, Tami suddenly appeared.
And the moment she noticed them alone together, her expression changed instantly.
“What’s going on here?”
Adunni stepped back slightly. “Nothing.”
But Tami looked uncomfortable.
Almost nervous.
Damian noticed immediately.
His eyes narrowed slightly at her.
For weeks now, something about Tami felt wrong to him.
Too involved.
Too interested in Adunni’s relationship problems.
Tami forced a smile quickly. “Adunni, can I talk to you?”
Adunni nodded slowly.
The moment they walked away, Tami’s fake smile disappeared.
“You need to stay away from Damian.”
Adunni frowned.
“What?”
“He’s messing with your emotions again.”
Adunni looked confused. “Why are you so angry?”
Tami hesitated briefly before speaking.
“Because I care about you.”
But Adunni noticed something strange.
Tami looked scared.
Not protective.
Scared.
That night, Adunni finally decided to clean her room properly after weeks of emotional exhaustion.
While organizing old papers near her bedside drawer, something suddenly fell onto the floor.
A second phone.
Her old phone from months ago.
The screen was cracked slightly, but it still turned on after charging.
Curious, Adunni opened her old messages slowly.
Then froze.
Her heartbeat stopped instantly.
Unread messages.
From Damian.
Dozens of them.
Messages she never saw before.
“Please talk to me.”
“This isn’t what you think.”
“Tami lied.”
“Adunni answer me.”
“I’m begging you.”
Adunni’s hands began shaking violently.
What?
She scrolled upward desperately.
Then saw something even worse.
Screenshots.
Fake conversations.
Edited pictures.
All sent anonymously to Damian months ago.
Pictures designed to make it look like Adunni cheated on him.
Her breathing became uneven instantly.
Because suddenly…
Everything started making sense.
And only one person had access to both her phone and Damian’s trust enough to manipulate everything perfectly.
Tami!..
