Adunni stared at her phone long after the call ended.
Her heart was beating so fast it almost hurt. Damian’s voice still echoed inside her head.
“Come over. We need to talk.”
Tami snatched the phone from her immediately.
“You’re not seriously thinking of going there, right?” she asked.
Adunni looked down quietly. “I just want to hear what he has to say.”
Tami laughed bitterly. “After embarrassing you in front of the whole Lagos? Adunni, people are literally making videos about you online.”
“I know,” she whispered.
“Then why are you still defending him?”
Because she loved him.
Even after the humiliation.
Even after the cheating.
Even after the tears.
Adunni still loved Damian Cole with every piece of her heart.
Two hours later, she stood in front of Damian’s mansion wearing a simple black hoodie while anxiety twisted inside her stomach. The large gates slowly opened, and she walked in carefully.
Everything about Damian’s world screamed luxury.
Expensive cars.
Bright lights.
Perfect gardens.
Yet tonight, the place felt cold.
A maid opened the door and silently allowed her inside.
Adunni’s hands trembled as she climbed the stairs toward Damian’s room. Before she could knock, the door opened.
Damian stood there in grey sweatpants with damp hair, looking frustratingly handsome like nothing had happened.
For a moment, neither of them spoke.
Then he turned around casually and walked back inside.
“Close the door.”
Adunni obeyed quietly.
The room smelled like expensive perfume and alcohol. Damian picked up a glass from the table while she stood awkwardly near the door.
“You wanted to talk,” she finally said softly.
Damian took a sip without looking at her.
“You embarrassed me yesterday.”
Adunni blinked in shock.
“I embarrassed you?”
“Yes.” His voice was cold. “Showing up at the club like that caused unnecessary drama.”
Her chest tightened painfully.
“You cheated on me publicly!”
Damian sighed like he was tired of the conversation.
“I never asked you to take the relationship so seriously.”
Those words shattered something inside her.
Adunni stared at him with watery eyes. “So everything between us was fake?”
Finally, Damian looked at her.
For one dangerous second, his expression softened slightly.
But it disappeared quickly.
“You knew who I was before dating me.”
Tears rolled down her cheeks immediately.
“No,” she whispered painfully. “I thought I knew.”
Silence filled the room.
Damian looked away first.
The truth was he hated seeing her cry. He hated the guilt crawling inside his chest. But his pride was stronger than his emotions.
He walked closer slowly until he stood directly in front of her.
“You should move on, Adunni.”
Her breathing became uneven.
After everything they shared…
After every promise…
This was how he wanted to end things?
“Did you ever love me at all?” she asked weakly.
Damian’s jaw tightened.
But instead of answering, he stepped aside and opened the door.
That silence hurt more than any insult.
Adunni nodded slowly like she finally understood.
Then she walked out of his room with tears streaming down her face.
And the moment the door closed behind her, Damian smashed the glass in his hand against the wall.
Because the truth was simple.
He did love her.
He just destroyed her anyway.
