Chapter 1

Comfort. A song, a book, a show, a movie, a person, an animal, a scotch on the rocks, a joint, the needle, tattoos. People find comfort in their own way, my personal comfort was books. They took me away from the everyday life I lived and transported me to a world where I could picture myself living. Flipping through the pages of the endless stream of words brought me peace and safety from the cruel world in which I was forced to live. I was a pack omega in my home, nothing more than a waste of space in the eyes of most of my pack. My brother Ozzy and my sister Lorelai were the same, we all shared the same mother, and yet our fathers were all different men. Our mother Kimberly was what we called a w***e, she joined the pack while she was pregnant with me, moving from her home in Norway to Alaska. Ozzy’s father was her mate, he spent one night with her before he rejected her and moved away with a different slut.  Our mother gave us all up to the Omega handler Jett, three days after Ozzy was born. We hadn’t seen or heard from her since. To the Cold-stone pack we were a burden, much like that of our mother. It was obvious to see we were outsiders. Lorelai and I both had light ash brown hair and beige skin, our eyes were different, hers being blue while mine were grey. I was shorter than her 5 ft 6 height standing in at 5 ft 4, Most of the women in the native Alaskan pack stood in at 5 ft 3 with dark brown hair and golden colored skin.  I sighed as I read the book as I sat in the chair in the darkest corner of the library. I hated being near any wolves belonging to a pack. Guests from neighboring packs were allowed to use us as they saw fit, raping, beating and terrorizing us as if we were nothing but garbage. After Lorelai left when she turned 18 I had begun to hate my sister. She could have taken Ozzy and I away, yet she remained selfish and only freed herself from the Cold-stone pack. Fortunately for Ozzy he was mostly accepted seeing as he had the blood of the cold Alaskans running through his veins.  I had my hair pulled back in two french braids, the braids themselves reached my lower back, I pulled on them every time I adjusted myself in the chair. I was wearing a pair of ripped black leggings and an over sized long sleeve shirt with holes in it, I had found them in the trash behind the pack house one day and I took them for myself. The shirt was a navy blue color. I wore a grey scarf around my neck, it was old and tattered like the rest of my clothes, I had no shoes seeing as I wasn’t allowed to wear them.  My nails were a light blush pink color, I found a used bottle of nail polish in the donation box we had.. In my ears were a pair of pearl studs, again found in the donation box. I had a small silver stud in my left nostril and a tiny tattoo of a wolf’s paw behind my right ear. Down my left arm was a collage of flowers three roses all red and black, two dark blue morning glories, four white and yellow daisies and two large blush pink dahlias. The tattoo stopped at my elbow, leaving room for more if I wanted them. A small arrow tattoo sat on my right index finger next to my middle finger. On the left of my right hand thumb was a small crescent moon that was just an outline. I was able to pay for my piercings and tattoos by working for the local parlor, cleaning up and running errands for the owner.  I set the book back on the shelf and leaned back in the chair with my hands on the armrest and my eyes closed. “Two roads diverged in a yellow wood.” I said quoting the first line of my favorite poem. I heard feet on the wooden floor so I opened my eyes to see the pack slut Niuki (Ni-yuki) with future Alpha Otto. I rolled my eyes and got up, leaving the crowded library and headed to the woods.  I sat down at the base of a tree and watched the squirrels and chipmunks play in the leaves. I felt my eyes sting as I thought of my wolf. I had only shifted once, it was on my fifteenth birthday, from then on Alpha Grizz didn’t allow me to shift. I could feel her stir in my mind some days but most of the time she remained silent.  Cassie was probably the most jaw dropping wolf I had ever seen. Her fur was mostly white and it shined like silk with the light grey/ silver hairs mixed in. Her paws were a light grey color and her eyes were silver. Her left hind leg looked like it had a sock on it, made from the only dark grey fur on her body. She had a black nose and long pink tongue.   After I finished sulking, the sun was setting at 4:00pm, winter was on it’s way leaving room for the dark. I hated winter, every year I had to find new reasons to not end my suffering. Ozzy, he was my main concern, I loved him with all of my heart and I couldn’t bear to leave him alone in the Cold-stone pack, like our sister had. Seeing as Ozzy had some native Alaskan blood flowing through his veins he was treated much better than Lorelai and I were. The only time the pack got physical with him was when he would try and protect me.  I made my way to the pack house where I  lived with the rest of the unmated females. I hated it, there were only six others, but I was their favorite to torment.  I walked to my room avoiding them all and grabbed my pajamas before sitting on my bed and pulling my hair from the braids and letting it hang loosely down to my ass. I stood and pulled off my scarf and put it away before walking to the communal bathroom.  My luck ended seeing as Imogen and Harper were there. I ignored them and walked into a stall, pulling off all of my clothes. “s**t Harper look away, her ugly will burn your eyes!” I rolled my eyes as I washed my body free of the day's grime.  “We have to cover the mirrors if we don’t want them broken.” I continued to ignore their rude commentary while I finished cleaning up. I turned off the water once I was done and began drying myself with my brown towel. I had just pulled on my underwear which were a pair of peach colored lace cheeky panties, when Imogen and Harper burst in. They snarled at me and looked at my body with disgust.  “Goddess, you are the ugliest wolf I have ever seen.” Imogen sneered before she grabbed my wet hair. “Your mate will be just as disgusted as we are.” I managed to growl at her words, which was something I rarely ever did.  “Shut the hell up!” I felt a rib break as Harper punched me in the gut then in my right exposed breast. I yelped and began pulling away as she grabbed my tit and twisted it. Imogen smashed my head into the wall and threw me to the floor as she and Harper took their feet all over my body.  A thunderous roar stopped them. Just as I was about to get up, another foot kicked my ribs, shattering them, I flew into the wall and looked up at Otto and Niuki. “Did you think someone was going to save you?” I pushed myself up to have my hair grabbed and my head slammed into the wall by Niuki.  “You’re a pathetic excuse for a wolf!” struggled to breath as Otto grabbed my hair and pulled my head back, exposing my neck. “I should just kill you right here.” He slammed my face into the floor, breaking my nose and bloodying the ground. “f*****g mutt. Now I have to shower after touching your filth.” I laid still trying to live even though Cassie was too weak from not shifting to heal my body properly.  I hadn’t even realized they left until I heard more feet thundering into the room. I heard a whimper and I did the same as my body was moved. I felt fabric placed over my body before I was carried away, whatever strength I had left I focused on keeping my heart beating and breathing. In and out. Pump the blood. In and out, pump the blood. I felt a weight on my chest and Cassie whimpered lightly as my vision blurred. I gave into the darkness and found peace. …...Other……. I hated stupid pack meetings, especially with a pack with no more than 50 wolves who had nothing to offer my pack, Alpha Gunter seemed to agree and we crossed the border. The only reason he agreed was on the off chance his mate was hidden in one of these minuscule packs. After driving through miles of wilderness we finally came upon the pack house that looked like a run down shack. I rolled my eyes as we climbed out of the vehicle.  “Alpha Gunter, it’s a pleasure as always.” Alpha Grizz said as he spoke, his son Otto came out of the pack house with a disgusted look on his face, his knuckles were clenched and I could smell blood on him. Silvio, my wolf snarled lightly as we followed them into the packhouse. I echoed his snarl when a kid no older than fourteen ran toward us with tears running down his face. In his arms was a gorgeous woman covered in blood.  Silvio whimpered, she smelled like peaches, honey and rain. (Mate.) I snarled and went up to the kid who snarled lightly pulling her closer to his chest, pissing my wolf and I off.  “Don’t snarl at me boy!” I growled at him. Everyone turned to me as I took my little mate from his arms, I could tell her nose was broken, along with a few other bones in her face. Silvio snarled at her condition knowing full well she hadn’t done this to herself.  (Raphael?) I heard my Alpha ask into the mind link.  (She’s mine.) I growled while looking at him. He snarled as well looking at our pack’s beta female in such a disastrous state. I turned back to the boy who had been carrying her. “Go get your doctor.” he nodded once and took off at a run.  “Who is responsible for this?” Gunter snarled at Grizz, I looked at Otto who had gone pale, the snarl that ripped from my throat reverberated off the walls when I figured out it was her blood on his clothes. “Otto?” Gunter sneered in question, feeling who my rage was pointed at. “That is young Alpha Otto to you.” Alpha Grizz snarled.  “More like dead boy walking.” I growled. “Your mutt of a son laid his hands on my mate. For that he will die.” “She’s your mate?” I looked over at a wolf with long dark hair, black almond shaped eyes and caramel colored skin. She had a wide nose and tick lips. She looked like every other female in her pack. Other than my mate, her hair was a light brown color and her skin was pale in comparison to everyone else’s including my own. “You might want to end your suffering here and reject her. She is the weakest wolf I have ever met.” The dumb b***h said looking at my mate in disgust.  Alpha Gunter snarled at her as my rage bubbled. “Why do you say that?” I heard Gamma Elias ask.  “That weak b***h can’t even shift.” “It’s because she isn’t allowed too.” The boy who held her earlier snarled as he rushed back in. “Just ask Alpha Grizz who used an Alpha’s command on her.” I turned my glare to Grizz who narrowed his eyes at the boy.  “How dare you Ozzy, we have treated you kindly considering your blood is impure.” Grizz sneered.  “What about my sisters? What about Emmaline?” Silvio purred when he heard her name, it suited her, Emmaline. “Look at how “Kindly” she was treated.” I fought the urge to rip the doctor apart as she rolled her eyes upon seeing Emmaline. “I should have known it was her.” She muttered, she looked over my mate who was still in my arms, listening to her heart and breathing and feeling her body with her hands. “She has at least 8 broken ribs along with her sternum, nose, left and right cheek bones, collar bone and right wrist. It will take her a few days to heal seeing as her wolf is weak. I noticed some blood on the back of her head, she will be in pain for at least a month unless she shifts.” The doctor said in a monotone voice before she walked over to Otto and inspected his hand.  “Oh Otto.” She cooed. “Put some ice on that bruise alright.” He nodded before she walked away.  “There is no need for that.” Gunter snarled, stopping her in her tracks. All eyes turned toward us, I felt the rage pouring off my alpha and I knew this s**t hole of a pack was going to be demolished. I reluctantly handed my little mate to her brother.  “Bring Emmaline to the SUV outside, you’re both coming with us.” He nodded and took her carefully before leaving.  “Kill everyone but the pups.” I snarled and let my Wrath out on all the wolves who dared lay their filthy paws on my mate, my Emmaline. Once it was done I walked to the car we came in, leaving the pups in the care of a neighboring Alpha we called who vowed to come and kill us all. I smirked as I got into the car, still covered in blood with nothing but shorts on.  I took my mate from her brother and held her close, hoping Silvio could help her wolf heal her. (I can hardly feel her.) Silvio whimpered as he tried to coax her out. (She needs to shift.) I nodded as I put her head above my heart.  “Where are we going?” Her brother asked.  “The black forest in Germany. It is where our pack resides.” Gamma Elias answered as I focused on my mate.  “First we are going to see a pack near Toronto Canada. We’ll call our doctor and have him fly in and take a look at Emmaline and see what he can do for her.” Gunter said from the passenger seat as he looked back at my little mate who was limp in my arms. “I’m sorry you had to find her that way Raphael.” I nodded and held her gently while making sure she was in the least amount of pain possible.
