The journey to Toronto took two days considering we had to drive a day to get to an airport that was tiny, not to mention having to take two planes. We finally reached Alpha Grey’s pack around noon on the second day. Emmaline hadn’t woken up, she just stayed asleep. Her face was scrunched in pain the entire time. Within the first few hours of the journey she pissed herself and on me, seeing as she had no control over her body functions.
We stopped the car and Ozzy took her from me, I would have argued but I needed to get freshened up as well. Once she was clean I had Ozzy slip her into one of my tops and a pair of shorts. He handed her back to me with tears in his eyes. Silvio whimpered knowing he was upset about the condition of our mate. I didn’t ask, I just took her still body and held her close, Even though she was unconscious and hardly alive I could still feel the sparks of the mate bond when I touched her. I was hoping my touch would soothe Emmaline even though she didn’t know who I was or even that she had a mate.
Once we finally made it to Alpha Grey’s pack I rushed Emmaline to his pack hospital where she was seen by Doctor Walter, as he said Gunter had him flown in from our home in Germany.
“Hallo Beta Raphael, wen haben wir hier?” (Hello Beta Raphael who do we have here?)
“My mate.” I told him as I set her down on a gurney, he sucked in a breath before he wheeled her away.
“Stay here beta, I’m taking her for tests.” I nodded and stood where he left me in her room, waiting for him to come back with my small mate. It took him three hours to return, I could smell her blood and Silvio instantly began snarling in my mind. “We had to do emergency surgery.” He said pushing her bed into a corner while nurses began hooking her up to machines. “Her sternum was healing so that it pointed in toward her heart, her ribs needed to be reset as well as her collar bone and nose. Her brain had swelling and we had to drill a hole in her head to release some of the pressure.” I felt my heart breaking as I looked back at my broken mate.
“She was given a small blood transfusion, but she’ll need more. I think yours will be best for her seeing as you are her mate.” I nodded and looked down at the doctor. “I can’t say what her mental state will be like when she wakes up, but she has a few older looking bruises on her body along with a few scars.” My heartbreak turned to anger knowing silver could have caused her scars. “She has been given Oxycodone to relieve the pain. I will have two days worth prescribed once she wakes up.” I nodded and sighed.
“When are we doing the second transfusion?”
“Now.” I nodded and he led me from her room.
(Elias, I want you and Ozzy outside of Emmaline’s room to guard her.)
(Got it.) I stood at her door, puzzling Doctor Walter, that was until he saw Gamma Elias. He then led me to a separate room where he took two pints of my blood. My knees were weak as I followed him back to her, refusing to eat something or get a drink until I was at her side.
“Here we go.” I sat at her feet as my blood went into her little body. Elias brought me a few garbage snacks and three bottles of water. “I suggest only one of you be in here at a time.”
“Two.” I said evenly without looking away from her healing face. “Her brother is here and I’m not willing to leave her, I doubt he is either.”
“Alright then, two.” I sighed as I pulled a chair next to her bed and grabbed her hand, she was so small. She had to be around 5 ft 4, I was 6 ft 4, so she was a foot shorter than myself.
“Thank you Beta.” I looked up at her brother who looked mostly like the other people from his pack, his eyes were the same dark brown, his hair the same dark color. His face seemed more angular and his skin was paler than theirs though.
“She’s going to need you once she wakes up. Emmaline may be my mate, but she doesn’t know me, she knows you.” I told him evenly before putting my head down so I could rest next to her, letting Silvio once again try to help his mate.
…...Emmaline Pov……..
In books I have read people in comas feel weightless and are floating around in darkness. Whoever started writing that s**t was a liar. Breathing was a struggle seeing as a huge weight was pressing down on my chest. My eyes were being held shut by a clamp refusing to open. I felt like my body was on fire where I had been hit and kicked, and slammed into the walls. My head was throbbing and Cassie was dormant the entire time.
The pain finally began to evaporate, a little bit every other second. The burning was replaced by a soothing tingle that made my heart want to jump from my chest. The weight got lighter and the clamps on my eyes released their hold allowing me to peel them open. I could hear Cassie whimpering happily in the back of my mind where she had been forced to live.
When my eyes finally focused I noticed I was looking at a white tiled ceiling. The same tingles that had replaced the burning fire, seemed to be all over, but strongest at my right hand. I blinked my dry eyes and tried to turn my head, my neck was stiff and I made a small noise. I heard movement and suddenly a face appeared in my sight.
I wanted to scream, but my mouth didn’t open, nor did I make noise. I felt my eyes widen as I took in his shaggy dark hair, dark brown eyes, olive colored skin, chiseled face which was adorned with dark stubble, and his heart shaped lips that looked soft and supple. I watched as his lips turned upward in a small smile before he looked elsewhere, I felt myself smile as Ozzy came into view.
“Ozzy.” My voice sounded dry and gravely as I spoke.
“Emma.” The stranger helped me sit up a little before he handed me a glass of water. I looked at it wondering if anything was added to it. “It’s okay.” My brother assured me. I gave him a small smile before I drank the water and handed the cup back to the now frowning man. I felt the pace of my heart change as I feared how he would react to the way I had upset him. I heard a beeping noise and I looked up at a heart monitor. I warily looked back at the man who was looking at the heart monitor sadly. I heard Cassie, whimper and I had to agree, I didn’t like seeing him upset.
“Where are we?” I asked looking at Ozzy, Alpha Grizz never let me get treated in the pack hospital.
“About an hour away from Toronto.” He said surprising me.
“What?”
“You almost died Em.” I nodded, I remembered that. “I found you on the floor….I hoped Alpha Grizz would let you get treated seeing as you were in such bad shape, but we ran into Alpha Gunter and a few of his pack members on our way.” I looked at the stranger and tilted my head in a way of asking if he were Gunter.
“I am Beta Raphael.” I found myself confused, his voice was utterly entrancing. I wanted to listen to him speak for hours. My heart seemed to skip because of his accent, which he and Ozzy obviously heard due to the monitor. I was confused, because I had never felt like I needed to hear something more than I needed to hear him speak. “And you Emmaline, are my mate.” Wait what? I felt my heart thud faster as my mind put together what he was saying.
“No, no no no no no no.” I said shaking my head as I scooted away from him. “I don’t want a mate.” He looked hurt while Ozzy looked pained, Cassie growled at me from the back of my head for hurting our mate. “I-..I don’t like pack wolves.” I stuttered as I continued to shake my head.
“Emma….” Ozzy started, I found myself flinching as Beta Raphael stood, he was going to hit me for hurting him.
“It’s alright Emmaline, I’m going to go out there.” He pointed to the door, which I looked at warily. He was going to let his friends beat me seeing as I was his mate and his wolf wouldn’t allow him to hurt Cassie or I.
“I-I….I’m sorry.” I whimpered as I slid backward away from the people he was going to let in.
“Calm down.” I heard Ozzy say from beside me as his warm hand took mine. I shook my head and readied myself, but found everything to be fine as the door clicked shut. “Beta Raphael won’t hurt you Em.”
“How do you know that for sure Ozzy?” I whispered sadly.
“You’ve pissed on him twice already, both times he struggled to let you go.” I looked up at him in surprise.
“I pissed on him?” He nodded sadly. “How long have I been asleep?”
“Three days. Do you want to know why it didn’t take longer?” I nodded at his question. “The doctor did three blood transfusions, one in the operating room, and twice in here. In the OR he had to use a stored bag, the other two bags were filled with Beta Raphael’s blood. Doctor Walter figured you would heal faster, which you did.”
“Why was I in the OR?”
“Your bones were healing wrong so the doc had to reset them.” I sighed. “Once you are strong enough you have to shift.”
“I can’t.” I said weakly.
“You can.” I looked at the door where Beta Raphael stood with a taller, more muscular man. I heard myself whimper as a shudder passed over my body. He was going to let the hulk do his job and smash. I noticed Raphael seemed pained by my reaction, which of course upset myself and Cassie.
“I am Alpha Gunter.” I refused to look back at the bigger man, Alpha Grizz had also ordered me not to look at him. I was trash and Alpha Gunter shouldn’t have to be bothered by me. I heard a deep growl and I trembled, I had pissed off an Alpha.
I heard feet approaching and I closed my eyes ready to take a hit, instead I felt tingles in my right hand. “We won't hurt you Emmaline.” His deep voice was soft and soothing, I heard the beeping of the heart monitor slow, as the mate bond did it’s job.
“H-how can I shift again?” I asked looking at my mate who gave me a soft smile.
“Alpha Grizz is dead, his command is void.” I felt my eyes widen in shock, Alpha Grizz was dead.
“H-...how?” Beta Raphael smiled sadly while looking down.
“He allowed his pack members to abuse you, aiding himself by not allowing you to shift, keeping you from the hospital and letting other packs torment and beat you. Alpha Gunter and I, along with our Gamma and two other warriors with us felt that the Cold-stone pack needed to be eliminated.” I felt my breath hitch, they had wiped out an entire pack…...for me.
“The pups?” I heard myself whisper.
“Were taken in by the next pack over, we called them and left before they arrived seeing as they had their hearts set on killing us for dealing justice.” I had to blink and pinch myself to make sure I wasn’t dreaming.
“What happens now?” I flinched as Beta Raphael reached toward my face, his eyes flashed with sadness as he brushed a strand of hair away from my eyes.
“We are going to the black forest, where my pack is located. I want both you and Ozzy to join my pack.” My head seemed to shake on it’s own accord.
“I-I don’t want another pack.” I felt my eyes sting and my nose flare. “I don’t want to be hurt anymore.” I was surprised to hear Beta Raphael whimper slightly at my words.
“I’ll protect you.” I had trouble hearing what he said as he pouted his lips sadly, probably not realizing he was doing it. “I promise Emmaline.”
“And Ozzy.” His eyes lightened and a tiny smile appeared on his face again.
“I will protect you both, I promise.” He held out his pinky finger which I took with mine cautiously.
“Ahhh, Miss Emmaline, you’re awake.” Another man walked in, he was wearing a long white coat and he spoke with the same thick accent as Alpha Gunter, their accent was different from Beta Raphael’s. “Back up please Beta.” Raphael stood back while the doctor looked at the machines before he turned his attention to me. “How are you feeling? Are you in any pain?” Strangely enough there wasn’t much pain, just a little here and there.
“Not really, only little jabs here and there.” I told him, he nodded and scrunched his eyebrows.
“The oxycodone should have worn down by now.” He said lightly.
“I think it’s because of the transfusions.” I said with a light blush on my cheeks. “Instead of pain I feel little tingles.” He smiled for a moment before nodding his head and writing on his paper.
“That is good news, perhaps with another transfusion you won’t need drugs.” I looked at Beta Raphael who was smiling proudly with his arms crossed over his chest. “What do you say Miss Emmaline?”
I looked at Raphael questioningly, he seemed confused as to why I was doing so. “He’s not taking my blood.” I said lightly.
“Let’s do another transfusion doc, I like that I can help my little mate.” My cheeks were blazing and the heart monitor began going crazy as my heart did a back flip when he called me his mate.
“Follow me Beta.”
