Chapter 1

Sierra was alone at the bleachers, fingers tapping on the laptop keyboard until the basketball team walked in for training— full of chattering and squeaking of shoes on the tiled floor. Cassian was ahead on the bleachers to place his things when his eyes landed towards her direction, a smirk appeared on his face. He excused himself from his team and went into her direction, slipping beside her. "Well, Hello, Shorty— Still working on something?" Cassian asked while she just nodded in response. "Always busy, huh? Typical you." He muttered under his breath. "So, what are you working for?" He spoke once again. "Personal stuff." She responded while eyes were still glued into the laptop screen. He leaned in to take a glimpse of her work, however, she blocked the screen. "Mind your own business." She said in finality before closing her laptop and stood up from her seat, slipping her backpack on her shoulder before getting off the bleachers. He watched her leave the gym court with a chuckle before turning ahead into his teammates. ————— As he walked inside the classroom with his friends, his eyes immediately landed on Sierra— who was sitting alone on her seat, reading textbooks. He slowly approached her table and slipped beside her, propping his arm on the table and tilting his head to face her. "Aren't you having your lunch?" He asked. "Does this cause you any disquiet?" She simply responded. "Well, you've been unmoved since lately in your seat like you're glued up.." He spoke. "So it does cause you any disquiet, I see." She placed her textbook flat on her desk and turned to face him with a face that is plain as a pipe-stem. "Well, aren't you such a full expression?" He spoke sarcastically with a slight annoyance. "Was I? That is a matter which does not concern you." She remarked before she continued studying. He stood up with such a salty expression and headed towards his seat behind hers. 'This girl never fails on provoking me.' he scuffed with the thought. After lunch break, students headed back to their classes. He spare glanced at her for a while before looking away as their classmates entered the classroom. Later on, their professor entered and started the class. After the professor finished taking attendance, he started discussing chemistry. "Who can give me the electric configuration of the 113's element of the periodic table?" The professor asked, then both Sierra and Cassian raised their hands. "Cassian raised his hand first." Says the professor, then he answered afterwards. "113's Element— Nihonium, 5f(14)6d(10)7s(2)7p(1)." He gave her an arrogant smirk, in which she rolled her eyes in response. Most of the female students in the class were amazed, fangirling. "Well, who were the individuals who discovered the three subatomic particles?" The professor stated and Seirra raised her hands to answer, "Electron was discovered by J.J. Thomson in 1897, Ernest Rutherford discovered Proton in 1919, and Neutron was discovered in 1932 by James Chadwick." She answered with such confidence. "That's magnificent, you got it all correct, Miss Beveriona." The professor applauded, "Thank you, Professor Parker." She smiled before taking her seat with satisfaction. During class, He kept glancing at her with an unreadable expression. Until.. Professor Parker decided to partner both of them with each other on a home project. He was vexed, while she remained aloof. "So, we're partnered up, huh? Have there been any blueprints or designs formulated for this latest venture?" He asked, which she just responded with a nod. "How about in my house?" He suggested, which she just nodded again. He took a deep sigh of frustration before grabbing her pen and notebook, writing down his address before handing it back to her. "Give me a call when you already made up your mind." He then slid his backpack on his shoulder and went towards the door to leave.
