Now that she was aware of what the creature in the dark truly was, she could not just leave it there knowing that there would be consequences. Firstly, it was already established that wild wolves were dangerous and would create homes in trees in the wildness. Finding one at the base of the mountain meant that it had a home nearby. It was too close to the castle to be allowed to run around. And secondly, if any of the knights were to see the wolf, they would immediately kill. Lucy's chest began to hurt when she thought of the possibility that the wolf could have a family nearby. It may have been dangerous but she did not want it to die still.
