Natalie’s POV
Oh my God! Jacob asked me to get coffee with him. This is one of those things I should call Tinleigh and gossip about, but she’s in volleyball practice. Plus I am not entirely sure Jacob wants to tell anyone we are mates just yet. Which is fine with me as I’m not entirely sure what this all means. I had a plan for myself and this changes everything.
I rush home to get my homework done and change. I probably changed my outfit a hundred times. What does someone wear to a coffee date with your life partner that you aren’t sure is going to stay your life partner? In the end I decided on jeans and a black plain shirt. With my converses and I pulled my hair up. I came downstairs and found my dad in the kitchen. He looked up and me quizzically.
“Where ya headed to sweet pea?”
“Meeting a friend for coffee, is that okay daddy?” I asked.
“Sure, just be home by 8. It is a school night.” He scolded.
“Yes sir.” I kissed his cheek and went out the door.
When I arrive at the coffee shop I see Jacob already there with two cups of coffee on the table. I take a deep breath trying to calm my nerves but it’s no use. I’m a complete basket case. I walk in and go to the table. He stands and pulls my chair out for me. Very gentleman like.
“So Natalie, how are you?” He asks.
I chuckle a little. “Honestly, umm I’m not sure. Shocked I guess?”
He looks at me curiously. “How about you?” I asked. “How are you?”
“I’m confused.” He said matter of factly. “I always thought Lauren would be my mate. She’s outgoing. Well liked. And we’ve been together for while.” As if I didn’t know this already. “Why would the moon goddess pair me with you? No offense.” He said that like that was suppose to make it okay that he was basically saying Lauren was better than me and he didn’t understand why me.
I shrugged at me. Honestly I didn’t understand it either. But I have always believed the moon goddess doesn’t make mistakes. I excuse myself to the restroom. I needed to catch my breath before I had a panic attack right in front of him. Some future Luna that would make me. Panic attack on a date with the future alpha.
Jacob’s POV
I show up to the coffee shop early. I told my father about finding my mate today and he was thrilled. When I told him who it was he was even more thrilled that it was his betas daughter. I’m not so convinced. Get over it. My wolf, Demetri, was feeling snarky today. He didn’t not agree with my plan to reject our mate.
I order two cups of coffee and wait for her to get here. I can sense she’s there before she comes in. She is very anxious. We talk for a minute and I explain how I was confused because I thought it would be Lauren. Her only response was a shrug. She looked like she was on the verge of a panic attack. She excused herself to the bathroom.
Just then, Brandon, my best friend and future beta sat down, grinning from ear to ear.
“Was that her?” He asked.
I nodded. “Well how’s it going? Is she gonna be our future Luna.”
“Dude I don’t know. She can’t be my mate. She is too shy and not assertive enough to be our future Luna.”
“She’s still young, she has time to grow and learn.” Said Brandon.
“I don’t care. She’s not right for me. She’s not even very pretty. She’s just plain.” I knew I was lying even as the words came out of my mouth. I did not think she was plain at all. Demetri was fuming at me now. We both saw her rush out the door. Da** it. She must have overheard. Demetri growled at me.
Brandon looked up as the door chimed and saw her leaving as well. He shook his head at me and got up and walked away. I banged my head on the table. I told myself I was going to give her a chance. And I blew it already. I needed to go and apologize to her. I finished my cup of coffee and made my way to her house.
When I arrived I noticed her car wasn’t there. Maybe she didn’t come home? I knocked anyway and her mom swung open the door. She stood glaring at me with her arms crossed. Well I guess she did come home.
