CHAPTER 1: THE MOONLIT ENCOUNTER
Beneath a sky dusted with silver, the Moonlit Market thrived in secret splendor. Lanterns swayed like captured stars, casting golden ripples of light upon the cobbled streets. It was here, among merchants peddling enchanted trinkets and storytellers weaving dreams, that Prince Edmund sought refuge from his gilded cage.
Dressed as a commoner, he wandered through the market’s intoxicating hum, his heart hammering with newfound freedom. Then, as if drawn by fate, his gaze landed on her.
Selena.
She stood behind a modest wooden stall, roses of deep crimson and blushing pink cradled in her hands. The glow of lanterns painted her face in warm hues, and when she met his eyes, the world around them dulled into a hushed melody.
"You seem lost," she mused, her voice a soft invitation.
"Perhaps I am," Edmund replied, stepping closer. "Or perhaps I've just found what I was looking for."
A smirk danced upon her lips as she plucked a single rose, twirling its stem between her fingers before extending it toward him. He reached for it, their hands brushing—a whisper of warmth, a quiet promise.
But before the moment could unfold, a sharp cry shattered the air.
"The prince! Find him!"
The market pulsed with alarm. Edmund’s pulse matched its frantic rhythm. He turned to Selena, an unspoken apology in his eyes, before the night swallowed him whole.
She clutched the rose he left behind, its petals trembling like her breath.
Who was he?
And would she ever see him again?
