ARRIVING BACK AT the town house, we stopped in the kitchen long enough for Charles to quickly survey the liquor inventory and express satisfaction that everyone’s wishes could be accommodated this evening. He also called Sean & Gabe’s and reserved a table for eight o’clock. He also made one other call, then went into the library and set the recorders to record both the five and the six o’clock news. Having taken care of mundane matters, we went upstairs and celebrated our victory in a time-honored manner, after which we slept for an hour or so.
