New York
Steven was the normal guy you'd see at office at 8 a.m. on the dot. Punctuality was something that he adhered to although his work mates would stamp in their names like a half hour or an hour late. He was a run of the mill decent guy with a one room apartment above a Nike store.
It was a particularly cold day with the rain pouring outside like it was never gonna stop. Steven took a sip of his coffee and sighed inwards. It was one of those days: the ones where he felt like total crap. Had his life amounted to anything; he really wasn't sure. The only thing he would go home to was Misty: his cat.
He looked longingly at a picture of Lisa: his ex-girlfriend. They had been together for 2 years but the relationship came to an end when she found another man at a bar and slept with him. 'Is it me?' he thought to himself, everybody seems to want to leave him, sometimes even Misty.
'f**k it' he said out loud and crushed the picture and trashed it. 'I deserve a break' he thought to himself. "I need this". He was suddenly filled with an urge to venture out into the open. Finally, all those days which he hadn't taken to relax would amount to a good three months and he could use the money he had saved up in his bank account because 'let's face it; not like I'm gonna have someone to spend this money on anytime soon anyway'.
With his spirits lifted, he headed of his cubicle at mid-day and told his boss his plans. " Finally! Thought you were never gonna ask" Mark exclaimed. As the boss, Mark knew that Steven had never in fact taken a vacation and knew he needed it. "Safe travelling bud! Have fun!!" he shouted as Steven headed out.
Steven was excited. "This is good for me" he thought to himself as he rushed past a lady in bright pink on the sidewalk. He knew where he was going. 'Thailand, here I come' he whispered under his breath with a smile so wide he looked positively like a mad man.
Opening his apartment door he called out for Misty. 'Guess what buddy, I'm going to Thailand, f*****g THAILAND' he sang to an awfully confused Misty. After he had booked the ticket online, he packed his suitcase, dropped off Misty to his mother's house and dashed off to the airport at the speed of his unusually rapid counter lady at his nearest grocery store.
At the airport he sat and waited patiently till he had to board. He had time to kill as he was early for his flight. Something caught his eye on the left side of the airport. "Might as well walk around a bit and check it out" he thought to himself. It was a door with a little bit of light streaking in from underneath. "Could it be a supply closet?" he asked himself. 'Why was there light coming from under the door' he wondered. Only one way to find out. He pulled the handle down and stepped in. It was too bright. He couldn't see anything. Then, BAM. Everything went black.
