Chapter 4 - Lost items

1207 Words
The next day… I woke up bright and early to prepare breakfast for my grandma. Once she finished eating, I headed off to find a job washing dishes at a nearby a la carte restaurant in the alley. From morning till evening, I scrubbed away, earning a mere 20 dollars. But now, I'm on the hunt for another job. If there's work to be done, I'll do it without hesitation. I always keep in Minnied the saying, "Don't settle for just any job, strive for more." It's my daily mantra. Once my work is done for the day, I make my way to the market to buy some fresh vegetables and eggs for tonight's dinner. My life may not be anything extraordinary, but it's a routine I've grown accustomed to. It's not so bad, in fact, it's even enjoyable. At least it beats sitting idle at home. Months pass by, and finally, it's the first day of the university semester. It's a new chapter in my life, but I can't help but remember how my innocence was shattered by that charming asshole. However, I've chosen to let go of the past. As I've mentioned before, I'm someone who easily forgets, and this crazy incident is something I desperately want to erase from my memory. "Grandma, I'm off to school now." "Mhm," she responds. I rush out of the house and wait eagerly for the bus. After a short while, the bus arrives, and I hop on, getting off right in front of the prestigious university. Everyone wonders how someone like me, who comes from a humble background, ended up studying at a prestigious university. Well, when I was on the verge of joining Richmond University, they announced that they were offering scholarships to students from a renowned institution. So, me and two of my buddies decided to take the test. We were all pretty bright, so we took the exam one after the other. But little did we know that once we started studying, it wouldn't be all sunshine and rainbows. Believe it or not, very few of my wealthy classmates even bothered to acknowledge my existence. It's like we were invisible to them. But my friend and I didn't let it bother us too much. We just focused on completing our studies. After all, graduating from this university opens doors to countless opportunities. That's why I kept pushing through. Oh, I almost forgot to introduce my friends. First, there's Jean. She's stunning, has a sharp tongue, and never backs down from a fight. She's the wildest one among us. Then there's Minnie. She may not say much, but she packs a mean punch. She's fiercely loyal to her friends, and anyone who dares to hurt them better watch out. Lastly, there's Maddie. She's the daughter of a billionaire and the wealthiest among us. She's got a gorgeous face, but she's also a total badass who dates different guys. I only got to know Maddie when I started studying at this prestigious school, and she was the only one who reached out to me. "Cassandra!" Jean shouted my name from a distance. "Hey! How's it going, Jean?" I replied. "Oh, it's been months since I last saw you. Come here and give me a hug." Jean gestured for a hug. "No way, I'm getting goosebumps!" I quickly pushed her away. "Friends don't hug. It's no wonder you're still a virgin." I was taken aback when Jean mentioned the word 'virgin'. "Uh... yeah." "Cassandra, why are you making that face? Did you... during the school break...?" "What...?" "You have a secret lover, don't you? Haha." "Wow... seriously, what kind of crazy assumption is that? And what about Maddie and Minnie? Have they arrived at school yet?" "I have no clue. Let's go find them." Lunch break.… “Guys, I can't find my student card anywhere in my bag," I said, feeling a bit flustered. "Did you leave it at home?" Minnie inquired. "That would be even more forgetful," Jean remarked. I pondered for a moment, but I couldn't pinpoint where I might have left it. "I think I must have left it at home," I replied nonchalantly, realizing that was probably the case. The four of us were gathered in the cafeteria, enjoying our meal. "Do you guys know Benjamin from Year 3 in the College of Engineering?" Maddie asked. I nodded. I wasn't sure how to approach this. He was definitely the most attractive guy in our school. "You have to know him. He's hot," I added. Maddie leaned in closer to me and whispered, "I hooked up with him. Last week was amazing," with a gleeful smile on her face. Jean suddenly burst into laughter. "What's so funny, Jean?" Minnie asked, looking puzzled. "Yeah, why are you laughing?" Maddie inquired. "I finished tasting him before you did, Maddie," Jean declared triumphantly. Minnie and I burst into laughter. These two really know how to pick the best men. Maddie gave a thumbs up to encourage her friend. “Come on, you two should give it a try. You're both amazing champions." “No way!” Minnie and I exclaimed together. "Hey, how about we all go watch the car race at KK stadium this Saturday?" Maddie suggested. “Did you hear that Chris will be competing too?” Jean asked Maddie. “Yes, Chris, the handsome one.” Maddie sighed dreamily. “You girls are obsessed with guys.” I chuckled as Maddie continued to gush about Chris. "Cassie, you really need to see Chris. He's so good-looking. I'm sure you'll like him." “But it's too expensive to go watch him. I can't afford it!" Jean complained. "I have to work, so I won't be able to make it." I used work as an excuse due to financial constraints. "I'm saving up money, so I won't be going either," Minnie added. “Oh, come on. I'll cover the entrance fee, so are you still going to miss out?” Maddie offered again. “We’ll go!” my friend and I answered in unison without hesitation and when I learned that I would be able to watch the racing for free. Today is a busy day for me with back-to-back classes. Once the classes were over, I found myself waiting for the bus right outside the university. Out of the blue, Maddie popped the question, "Hey, how about hitting the club? Let's celebrate the start of the semester!" Before I could respond, she quickly added, "Don't worry, I'll cover the expenses." Without any hesitation, the three of us replied simultaneously, "Sure, why not?" Maddie then finalized the plan by saying, "I'll swing by to pick you up at 10 p.m., alright?" After that, we all went our separate ways, looking forward to the evening ahead. … At the house… “Grandma, I am going out with my friends tonight.” Wherever I want to go, I have to ask Grandma first. “Okay, take good care of yourself.” After allowing me to go, I walked into my bedroom. then search for my student ID card but no matter how much I search, I can't find it. “Die, definitely die, where did you forget that?!”
