Thanks to Kael, I was unable to spend even one day in the beautiful office that had been assigned to me as Luna to the pack. After both Gideon and Kael took me to greet the pack elders and get to know some of the pack members, Kael informed me I’d be moving into Gideon’s office to help us work better together.
I knew his office was big enough to accommodate both of us, but nothing would’ve prepared me for how big it was. It was painted in white and grey colors, which gave it an elegant and sophisticated look.
I tried to curb my awe as I moved inside with a box, finding a table already prepared for me a few feet away from Gideon’s close space.
Just as I start to arrange my things, I feel someone trying to reach me, so I quickly open the midlink. It was Kael.
“Come to the meeting room asap. My brother is about to kill someone.”
The urgency in his tone told me it was serious, so I quickly hurried out. Kael had shown me around, so I knew my way to the meeting hall despite the vast space in the pack house.
I walked in quietly.
There were at least twenty men in the room surrounding the long rectangular table. Kael was standing behind his brother, who looked nothing like the man I came to know yesterday, but everything like the man I’d heard about. Cruel and unforgiving with his jaws locked tightly with controlled rage.
And his eyes, Goddess. They were dark, merciless, stripped of anything that resembled compassion, looking down at the man kneeling beneath his feet, shivering from fear and almost pissing himself.
What could he have done to make Gideon this angry? I couldn’t tell, but the room soon noticed me, and they all turned their heads to me in greeting.
“Luna.”
I wasn’t used to the way they were looking at me. Scrutinizingly. As if wondering if I was fit for my role. The men in the room were men of status, governing several aspects of the pack, which I was going to gradually get used to.
I tipped my head to them in greeting and walked forward with purposeful strides.
Gideon’s eyes lifted to meet mine then narrowed dangerously as I approached as if asking what I was doing there.
Dammit.
He looked even more pissed.
Why did Kael call me here? What was I supposed to do? Tell him to stop torturing the poor man in front of everyone?
That’d be utterly disrespectful. To question him in front of others. My gaze shifted to Kael, and he was mouthing something to me, which I did not understand.
I took an empty seat next to Gideon, putting his victim between us. The man looked to be in his late thirties. Long beards, untrustworthy eyes that were now stricken with fear.
What crime did he commit?
I smiled sweetly and took Gideon’s hand in mine. The action came naturally, and I wondered if he was going to push me away, but after a few seconds, he didn’t.
The rage I felt from him was murderous. Bloodthirsty. He wanted nothing but to kill.
His eyes pinned me with a look that asked a question. What was I doing here?
“I’m your assistant now, remember? I’m here for you.” I said smoothly, wondering why I was not afraid. Especially since all those horrible rumors I’d heard of him started swirling through my head.
He looked at Kael who quickly cleared his throat and explained to the others the kind of connection we had as mates and how I would help the Alpha communicate better with them.
They seemed elated to hear that. Except Gideon. He was still glaring at the person kneeling before him.
“What happened?” I asked quietly and it was Kael who answered.
“He betrayed the pack. And he’s refusing to say who’s behind him.”
A traitor then. That was pretty serious. If I thought I felt pity for the man before then now I felt nothing.
“We found his secret letters after raiding his quarters. He’s been divulging sensitive Information to others. As part of our Alpha’s close circle, he can directly put the whole pack in danger.”
That was true. This could be catastrophic.
“What are you all planning to do with him?”
Feed him to my dogs. I heard Gideon’s thoughts and the image of big wild animals fighting over the man’s flesh was pushed Into my mind. The brutality of that scene made me shiver and I looked at Gideon, the way he had his lips curled up slightly.
Fuck. Remind me not to ever mess with him.
“According to pack rules, he is to be executed.” Someone announced and I knew what position he held since I’d been introduced to them yesterday.
“The problem is that Soren pleaded for him.” Someone said and hearing that, the rage I felt from Gideon pulsed thicker in my throat.
Soren pleading for a traitor should’ve implicated him and yet it is making the council cower.
“Beta Soren holds most of our pack’s resources. He has handled it even before Alpha Connor’s passing. We can’t afford to go against him at the moment.” Someone was kind enough to explain and I frowned.
Tell them that is not going to stop me from ending his miserable life. There is no place for a traitor in my pack!
I intentionally did not pass that message to the rest.
Honestly, the pack’s dynamics was messing with my head. No matter how much power uncle Soren holds, he still answers to Gideon. So how could he plead for a traitor and expected the council to listen? Unless there was something I didn’t know yet.
But from what I understood, the pack might face a turmoil if Gideon kills him. That was why Kael called me here, hoping I could stop his brother. But what could I possibly do?
I looked at the man still shaking with fear. He’d know by now that Gideon didn’t care about whoever had pleaded for him and wanted him dead, fairly.
I moved closer to Gideon. Close enough to feel his angry hot breath on my face. Goosebumps ran down my arms as I whispered to him.
“How about putting him in prison? With no contact to the outside world until we decide what to do with him?” I squeezed Gideon’s hands as I said this, as if urging him to agree.
Surprisingly, the council found this idea enough for now. They agreed with me and looked at Gideon for approval.
Gideon’s brows pinched tightly. With my hands still clasped in his, I feel him debating the solution for several long minutes.
Kael also had to chime in his support and finally, he gave his approval and the guards immediately barged in to take the traitor away.
The moment Gideon agreed, he slipped his hands out of mine, jaws locked tightly as he stood. His shoulder seemed to be filled with a certain tension as he took one more look at everyone before he left, obviously still enraged.
“Go with him.” Kael told me. “He is still angry about not being able to kill the bastard. My brother would take it out on something for sure. Stay with him. You’re the only one who can calm him, Evelyn.”
I gave him a nod and followed after Gideon. I almost missed him when he walked into the study and shut the door. Thankfully, he didn’t lock it.
I pushed inside and saw him sitting behind his desk, head thrown back, raking his fingers through his dark hair and turning it messy.
This view of him, looking angry and frustrated should not look so hot and yet I could not peel my eyes away from him, watching the way his throat bobbed as he swallowed and the way his veins were almost popping out.
Goddess, everything about this man was fine art. Insanely attractive. I was distracted, even forgetting what I’d come for in the first place.
“Gideon.” I swallowed thickly. “I— I’m sorry.”
He opened one eye with a c**k of his brow as if asking why I was apologizing
“I might’ve upsetted you earlier by stopping you from killing him. I knew how enraged you were. I shouldn’t have but Kael called me and it seemed like the only correct choice was sending him to the prison. I didn’t mean to question you or—“
His frown deepened and I didn’t know if I was saying something wrong or not. Distractingly, I put my hand on the back of the chair but I didn’t notice the splinters of wood my hands swiped through.
I flinched when I felt it prick into my fingers. Blood instantly dropped to the floor. Gideon sprang from his seat when he saw me injured.
Worry etched into his brows and without saying anything to me, he lifted me up and onto the table and examined my fingers.
He looked so worried about the injury on my finger that he didn’t notice me looking at him. I swallowed hard, taking note of our position.
Me, atop his desk, my legs spread open and him in between them. Heat pulsed through me and I couldn’t help squeezing my thighs a little which only squeezed him into me. Into my aching center.
He caught my eye first before he put my injured finger in his mouth, sucking on the blood. A gasp escaped my lips and a shiver ran through my body like electric shock which he noticed.
It didn’t make him stop though. His tongue stroked the injured spot slowly and heat immediately buzzed in my center, curling in my stomach before descending downward.
Fuck. It felt like my whole body had come alive for this moment. My wolf purred in approval as he continued to lick my wound and the damn girl purposely did not heal it.
Not like I wanted this— him- to stop what he was doing to me. It was so arousing. So hot.
He lifted his eyes to mine, still sucking, licking. All that rage, all that anger from him, still there but subsided as if this moment somehow erased the rest of the world.
His gaze fell to my lips and the way his eyes had darkened, burning heavily with lust— desire made me bite my lips, earning a growl from him. A growl. f**k, the sound of it was erotic okay? It’s the first time I’ve heard him growl. The sound rumbled in his chest like a fierce animal.
“G-Gideon—“ I whispered his name softly, uncertainly. I didn’t know what I was going to say because even my voice was failing me. And yet, before I knew it, before I could think or understand what’s happening, he claimed my lips in his and my whole body froze then melted in the kiss.
At first it was soft, slow, teasing then it became urgent. Intense. Hot. He devoured my lips like a starving beast. Like he’d imagined this moment every time he closed his eyes. And he wanted to make the most of it by being greedy.
It was wrong to call what he was doing to me a kiss. He was eating me, he was devouring my lips like it was a meal and I welcomed the beast willingly, a moan slipping out of my lips as his tongue played with mine and his hands moved to cup my breast over my dress.
The air was heated between us, almost scalding. He pushed my legs wider, positioning himself in between as he touched me in ways no man ever has.
I was going crazy. My mind was muddled. My body, only wanting his touch, wanting this moment to not end.
