Blurb

Xavier Adams has everything a man could want; billions in the bank, devastating charm, and a different beautiful woman on his arm every night. He doesn't believe in love, and he's never had to chase a woman.

Until the mysterious girl in red walks into his life.

After one unforgettable night, she disappears without giving him her name. For the first time, Xavier finds himself searching for a woman who doesn't want to be found. When fate finally puts them in the same room again, he expects her to fall for him like every other woman.

Instead, she avoids him, rejects him, and seems determined to make him lose his mind.

What begins as a game to conquer the one woman who dared to resist him soon becomes something Xavier never expected: real love.

But Maddy has her own reasons for keeping him at a distance, and the closer Xavier gets, the more secrets threaten to tear them apart.

He thought he was the player.

He never imagined he'd be the one who would lose the game, and his heart.

Chapter One - Red
Xavier Adams had never chased a woman in his life. That would change tonight, though he didn't know it yet. The loud jazz music had nearly everyone on the dance floor. Xavier looked around, bored. He had stopped counting the number of manicured hands trailing across his chest. “Leeches.” He muttered and looked around to see his friend Adrian smiling as though enjoying every bit of it. The other two guys; Damon and Barack were saying inaudible things to themselves and laughing out loud. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves, all except him. His eyes strayed again, looking for nothing in particular, until it caught her. The shiny silver chains draping down her waist swayed gracefully, alongside her slim waist, which moved in rhythm with the music. Her hair was let down in soft curls, some falling across her face, blocking his view from seeing her full facial features. Her eyes met his and that instant and she held his gaze seductively. Xavier marveled at the charm that oozed from her stare. A male figure slid in and stood in front of her, instinctively blocking his gaze. Xavier cursed under his breath. “How about you come into the private room with us for a good time?” One of the ladies swooning around him muttered into his ears, bringing him out of the trance and making him instantly remember that they had been there all along. “Hey ladies, please take a bow now. I’m good.” Xavier said and signaled them to leave. They left grumblingly and Xavier smirked. He had always been the highly desired one. “Hey man, everything good?” Adrian poked him gently by the side and asked. Xavier nodded gently in response. The puzzled look on Adrian’s face almost earned him a laugh. Frankly, it was weird for Xavier to be in the company of women and tell them off. He was Xavier after all. The women’s man. The one that made even top models swoon. She came into his view again and Xavier’s breath was caught in his throat. Her hair was pushed to the back, and her face was fully visible. She was drop-dead gorgeous. It was weird. The woman shouldn't have stood out to him, as the dance floor was crowded with beautiful women. Yet somehow... She was the only one he could see. - ******* She knew he was watching, but it didn’t make her stop or swoon, instead she slowly trailed her fingers from her breast, down to her waist. She was teasing him, but she was also enjoying it. The man earlier had tried to lure her into a dance, and she could see how jealous it made him - the stranger in the VIP booth, staring intensely at her as though he was going to eat her all night for dinner, if she let him. There was a fierce hunger in his eyes, and it continued as she watched him trail his eyes over her, capturing and holding every move. He signaled her and she smiled seductively. There was something about him that pulled her in. It was almost as though he was familiar. But she knew that she didn’t know him. If she did, she would have known. But there was that lingering pull, and recognition that she still couldn’t place. He was making his way to her now. Oh, what a man. She wondered as she stared at the tall and huge frame of him. He stepped forward in deliberate confident strides, and she marveled at the sheer masculinity that he exuded. “Hey” He muttered as he slid behind her in style and slowly placed a hand around her waist. Her response came in the instinctive whining of her waist and suggestive hands running all over the firm hand placed on her waist. Xavier grunted and twirled her slowly, so she was facing him. Their faces so close that if either of them should move, they’d be kissing the other. His eyes roamed around her face and settled back at her eyes. She was a tall woman who could easily pass as a model but his frame looking down on her, suggested that he was way taller than her. She smiled at that realization. Most men she’d met were either same height with her or shorter. She didn’t even know why that made her happy. Not that she planned on seeing this strangely handsome man ever again. His eyes never left hers as they both swayed in the same rhythm of on the floor by Jennifer Lopez. Suddenly feeling confident, she led him by the hand back to the VIP section where he came from and sat him down on the couch. She noticed the stare of the other men who presumably might be his friends, but she didn’t falter, instead, she went down and started grinding slowly against him. It was her favorite type of dance. She heard a low grunt from him and then he muttered “oh Red.” Smiling again, she loosened herself from his grip, leaned in and kissed him slowly on the chin. He reached out and grabbed her by the neck and then kissed her on the forehead, then slowly, on other parts of her face. She raised a finger to stop him as he made for her lips and in that instant, she saw the huge disappointment on his face. He watched, heart beating twice as fast, when she stood up slowly took some slow steps backwards and then walked out of the club. - It took a few seconds for Xavier’s clouded mind to register what had just happened. He watched her pull away, and a part of him thought that she was about to go back to the dance floor and probably tease him again, but as he watched the soft sway of her hips, the dangling chains on her waist following the rhythm obediently and her long legs confidently striding through the exit, he knew that this was beyond a tease. She was in fact leaving. He caught the last view of her red dress and then he jumped from where he was seated and followed her. A couple of ladies intercepted him just as he nearly made it to the exit and before he could move away from their grip and finally reach the exit, she was gone. He was Xavier Adams. He never had to chase after a woman. A woman had never walked out on him. But heck, who was this woman? Scratch! He didn’t even know her name.
