The Meet Up:
I was so glad to be off work. I bought myself a little treat when I spotted it in my department store. A new dress. That way I looked halfway decent for the date that I had with Dean that weekend.
Plus, Dad would not complain about me wasting my money on the dress because it was to look nice on the date. It was a win win for me.
Right?
I speed near the Hollywood exit sign. We were close by Hollywood. I never went that way too much. Unless it was with Cora. She often liked to audition for extra parts in movies.
I was not into that. But it was fun to go into Hollywood. We never met anyone famous. We did drive past Lucille Ball's home once. I loved I Love Lucy. It was an all-time favorite show of mine. Besides Ozzie And Harriet back in my childhood days.
Someone nearly cuts me off the road heading on the highway from Hollywood. Merging onto the highway. I bet it was a man driver. They all thought they owned the road.
It was a very nice sports car. Dad would have been drooling over the sight of it. It was a mint green convertible. With gold trim sidings. I could not even dream of owning a car like that.
The car kept changing lanes I was in as I tried to get past it. Then we hit traffic. Everyone was getting off work. I sigh. I was never going to get home. Slow then fast then slow. I was nearly home to. So very close to being home. I tap my finger on the wheel. Then reach over to turn the radio on. Some music plays. The Doors were blaring on the speaker.
I see the other lane start to go. I assumed we were going to. I go to pull up. Then blam! I gasp. I feel a jolt from the hit then I groan. I hit the fancy car. My car was ruined! In the front.
My Dad was going to kill me! How was I going to pay, for this? I pull over as the other car pulls over to. I can already see damage to the car ahead of me. Tears come to me. I could not let them see me cry.
I dig my car insurance card out of my purse along with my id. Would they want a cop to get involved in this? I bet they would. I could kind of tell that it was a man in the other car. I was going to hear it. I was a female driver. Men in this time always ragged on us female drivers. All the time.
I wait for them to come see me. Soon I hear a knock on the window. I roll it down. Ready for talking.

"Don't you look before you go? No one was moving in our lane yet?" they were complaining.
I gasp when I glance up. Ricky Nelson. As the singer. Ricky Nelson! I hit Ricky's car. I groan.
"I am so sorry sir" I mutter.
"I bet you are. Do you have anyway to pay for this damage?" he asks me.
I could not give him my card. My Dad would know. I was covered by my father for now.
"No, I just bought this car. Literally" I tell him.
"You really need car insurance" he mutters.
I hand him my information. "I am very sorry. I work so I can pay for the damage" I tell him. What was I going to do? I burst into tears.
"Hey hey don't do that. Don't cry" he orders. "I hate it when women cry" he groans. He goes to try to open the car door, but it was locked.
I unlock it. He opens the car. Helps me out of the car. Then leads me away from the traffic area. He pulls me in his arms for a hug. He was very kind for someone who's car I had hit. I cry as he holds me close. He smelled so good. I try to dry my tears as fast as I could.

"My dad helped me get this car. He is going to kill me. I don't know what to do. I can't pay for this" I sob. "I will lose my car. He already doesn't want me to work let alone drive my own car!"
"Controlling type huh? Probably has you all set to marry?" he jokes.
"Pretty much" I sigh as I brush aside my tears. I pull back from his warm embrace.
He was so tall. Much taller than me. He had slick dark beautiful hair. I love those blue eyes. They were more perfect in person to see. So stunning. His face was chiseled perfection by the gods above the heavens themselves.
"How about this, I need help and you can help me out. You need help I can help" he offers.
"Huh?" I ask feeling confused.
"Well, I can pay for this car. Make your father think some friend borrowed the car. I will get this to you fast the next day. People do things for me. I can get this fixed. Then you can help me out. How about it?" he asks me.
"What kind of help do you need though? I am not that kind of girl" I warn him. I was not a call girl if that was what he hoped to gain.
He chuckles. "No no nothing like that. I need someone to take out on the town. Make appearances. And I do not want someone serious. Something fun. Someone to go with me. Be an escort. How about it? You be my escort on the town for a month?" he asks me. "then the pressure to date would be off me"
I muddle it over. Date Ricky Nelson? For a month? That would be a blast. And my parents would love him! And it might get the pressure off me to date Dean. Right?
"You know what Ricky? Sure, that would be perfect in fact! I will be happy to be your date" I agree.
"That means you will be in the spotlight for a while" he warns me.
I nod. I sigh. "I understand. But I need this car fixed. Now. How am I going to get home?" I worry.
Ricky flags down an officer. Then we get the cars towed. And Ricky pays for ours to be fixed over night. Ricky calls us a taxi cab. He rides with me home. I jot down my phone number for him.

"Great thanks. We will be in touch very soon" he promises me. He looked fantastic today. He was wearing a brown leather jacket. Blue jeans with a light blue top that really brought out the blue eyes. He had a gold necklace around his neck. His chest peaked out of his shirt a little bit to. I tried not to look.
"Looking forward to it" I answer. "Ricky?"
"Yes?" he asks me.
"Thanks so much. For all of this. You saved me" I say to him.
"What is your name again?" he glances down at the name I gave on the paper. "Sorry I meet people daily. Fiona. Beautiful name for a lovely lady"
"Thanks" I say as I blush like crazy. "I better go before my parents notice the taxi out here" I mutter.
"See you very soon in the future Fiona dear" he says to me.
"Oh, Ricky call in the afternoon. I work in the day" I remind him.
"Thanks, I will" he answers me with a drop-dead smile.
I glance at him one more time before getting out of the taxi cab. Much to my luck the cars were not here. Mom must be at the store. And Dad still at work. Perfect. I glance back as the taxi zooms away from here. I rush in the house once I unlock the door. I rush to the phone to call Cora.

"Hi sorry I did not call yesterday. Dean was here" I tell her once she answers. "You will never believe in a million years who I met today" I brag.
"Who?" Cora asks me. "Who?"
I go into detail and tell her all about meeting Ricky Nelson today.
"He wants you to be his escort? To pay off the car?" giggles Cora.
"Yes, for a month" I tell her.
"Wow" she breaths out. "you get to date Ricky Nelson" she gushes.
"Will you help me if my parents ask where the car is?" I beg her.
"Sure, I am in. No worries on my end" she tells me.
"You are such a life saver Cora" I sigh.
Mom comes in with the groceries. "I did not know you were already home Fiona. Where is the car?" Mom has to ask.
"Look gotta go Cora. Mom is home" I whisper. We hang up.
"Cora had to borrow my car. And she will bring it back tomorrow" I tell Mom.
Mom frowns. "I don't like you lending your car out" Mom mutters.
"I know I know. But Cora really needed it. And it is only for a bit" I add.
"Fine. She is bringing it back tomorrow?" Mom asks me.
I nod. "First thing tomorrow" I remind her.
"Fine. Do not make a habit of this. Don't do it again" she warns me.
"Mom, I have some good news" I tell her.
I help her with the groceries. I put them away for her.
"Oh, what might that be?" she asks me.
"I met Ricky Nelson today" I bring up.
"The singer?" she asks me.
"The one" I tell her. "He asked me on a date" I tell her.
"Your kidding?" she asks me.
She looks stunned by the news.

"No, I am not. He will be calling here for me" I explain to her. "Is that alright?"
"What about Dean?" she asks me. "he will be hurt"
"Mom I am not into Dean. I won't break my date with him. But I really want to go out with Ricky" I grumble.
"But you can't take Ricky seriously. He goes out with loads of woman. Dean is the one you can count on" Mom argues with me.
"But I want to date Ricky" I snap.
"Fine, throw your life away" she snaps back. "You never listen to reason"
"You never listen to me!" I snap back.
We glare at one another.
"Sorry Mom" I sigh. She turns her back to me.
I head out of the kitchen to leave her to stew in her own thoughts. It was my life. Not her life. Why could she not understand that?
I could date whom I wanted. Not that it was going anywhere with Ricky. It was only pretend. I just wish my Mom understood what I wanted for my life.
