I was on my date with Dean then I planned on telling him that I was on going to be going steady with Ricky Nelson. Time to dump old Dean.
Much to dear old Dad's displeasure and to mom's. I knew once that Mom got to meet Ricky in person, she was going to love him as much as I adored the man. And this was going to be my ticket away from old Dean.
Not that Dean was a horrible choice. Just Dean was not the one for me was all.
Ricky had my car arrive as good as new back home as he promised he would the next day. I had nothing to worry over that issue.
And I was paying Ricky back with fake dates. I could hardly wait. The world was soon going to know the real me. They would all know my name. Fiona was no longer a no one.

"Fiona do you want dessert? You seem to be a million miles away" chuckles Dean as we sit in the booth at the local malt shop.
"Oh, sorry I am a bit distracted I am very sorry. No dessert for me Dean" I tell him.
"Watching that girly figure. I dig that" he teases me.
I smile. "Sure" I laugh.
"When would you like to plan our next date? I think things are going well here tonight" he mentions.
I wince. "About that. We do need to talk" I tell him.
"That did not sound good" he sighs.
"It is not. I met someone else Dean" I tell him. "I hope we can still remain friends though."
"Sure, we can be friends. I mean I know I was not feeling that magic thing between us, but it was nice being out with a beautiful woman like yourself" he tells me.
"Thanks Dean you are a sweet thing" I answer him. "Dean one day you will make some girl so happy."
"I hope so. I hate being alone" he grumbles. "I do not do well being solo."
"I am sorry" I say.
"Your dad made it sound like you wanted to go steady" he explains. "I am a bit confused. I am sure that it will be for the best" he sighs.
"Dean something came up. The other day I happened to hit a car. I can tell you. I mean it will all be public soon" I begin to explain.
"What?" he laughs.
"I hit Ricky Nelson's car by east Hollywood on the highway. And he asked me for a date. We are going to be dating" I announce.
He chuckles. "Ricky Nelson? The singer?" he asks me. He looks like he did not believe a word I say.
I nod. "Yes, that is the one" I tell him.
"You could have just said you did not like me. I understand Fiona" he grumbles. "What a lie" he laughs. "Man being dumped by you that is harsh even for you" he snaps.
"But Dean it is true. I will be dating Ricky" I sigh.

Dean storms off. Then I am stuck paying the bill and finding my own way home for the night. I pissed Dean off. But at least I had been honest with him.
And the truth would come out very soon. Everyone was going to know that I would be dating Ricky. And I did not have to prove a thing to the world. Or to Dean.
I get home and I was in a good mood. I was Dean, free. That would put anyone in a good mood. I get some juice from the fridge. My mom comes in. She glances over at me. I know she was mad that I was dumping Dean today. The phone rings. She answers it.
"Oh, hello wow it is true then! How nice! Yes, she is home. I will fetch her" mother is gushing on the phone. "Fiona dear Mr. Nelson is on the phone for you" she tells me.
She hands me the phone.
"I told you mom" I whisper to her as I take the phone. She looks happier.
"Hello?!" I answer his call.
"As promised I called. And did you get your car Miss Fiona?" Ricky asks me on the phone.
"Hello Ricky yes I did get it. Thanks so much" I reply to him. I loved hearing his voice on the phone.
"You have a stunning voice on the phone has anyone told you that before Fiona?" he asks me.
I blush now. "No but thank you for saying so" I giggle.
"Beautiful I love listing to you talk" he tells me.
"You have a very deep handsome voice yourself" I say. Wow did I say that? I was a dork. I groan.
"Thanks Fiona" he chuckles.
"I am so glad you called. No one was believing me that I met you" I say to him.
"I am sure" he laughs. "People don't believe me when I say I met d**k Clark" he jokes.
I laugh. "Oh Ricky!" I giggle.
"When can we go out on our official first date dear?" he asks me.
"Well I work all week. I am off on the weekends. I am free this Friday night" I offer.
"Friday is busy for me. Can we meet Saturday?" he requests.
"Saturday will work for me" I agree.
Then that gave me time to get my hair done up. Get some new make up.
Look at looks at magazines. And get another outfit maybe? For Ricky. That gave me time to look my best for him.

"Fiona you still there?" he asks me.
"Sorry I am here. I was lost in thought. I am so excited to go out with you" I promise him.
"I am glad. I am looking forward to getting to know you. I mean you seem very nice. You are a beautiful lady I am glad we bumped into each other" he tells me.
"Thank you Ricky for saying such sweet things. I am glad to" I gratefully say. "you know you are the first star I ever met in California. I have always lived here" I giggle.
"I am glad I am your first" he tells me.
I laugh.
"It is almost dinner time Fiona. Dad will be here soon as well" mom reminds me.
"I better go Ricky" I sigh. "never any privacy around here" I mutter into the phone.
"We will have plenty of that in the future my beautiful Fiona" he tells me. I blush.
We make plans for a date. I sigh after we get off the phone. He told me he would call Friday night to ensure our plans for Saturday. And that he just wanted to chat and get to know me. I said phone dates were fine with me to.
"Well someone is moving up in the world. I love Dean but I do hope things work out with Ricky" mom tells me.
"Thanks mom you mean that?" I ask her. "I was not into Dean. I am sorry"
"Do not get your hopes up. Ricky probably has loads of dates. Not just you" she warns me. "he is handsome"
"I have to try mom. I mean this is a once in a life time chance" I point out.
"Good luck sweetheart. I am rooting for you. And you always have Dean to fall back on if things do not work out with Mr. Nelson" she has to add.
I groan. She was never going to get it.
She never had never would.
