Chapter 12

1790 Words

Leukos     The first night we camped by a small river called Abusha. It meant “jumping water”in the Maccana tongue. I spied a look at the fast current of the river and the way the water splashed against the rocks. The name seemed fitting. The other girls assured me the river was safe and asked me to come with them so I could wash for the night. We still had five more days of traveling before we arrived at the mountainside plateau known as Marosh. We would be camping by the side of Marosh for the entire summer. And this was the only stop with potable water available for the next five days. I didn’t even need to think about going with them. My feet started moving on their own.     I was laughing at the story of Mara learning to swim for the first time when the growl of the Wolf stopped me.
