Chapter 7

Benedict's Pov:

“He's awake! He's awake!”

Those were the words I heard first, still unable to open my eyes I tried to shake my feet I hoped someone would touch me, just to be sure I was still alive

“He's moving! He's moving!” The same voice, the same persistence

“Benedict!” This voice I recognized

“Benedict, it's your mother can you hear me!” She came closer and just when I thought it was my imagination, my eyes opened

It was hard at first, there was too much light, and shutting my eyes was painful, I struggled, but I finally opened my eyes

My eyes were wide enough for me to see her, my mother, holding my hands tightly

“Are you okay Ben” she whispered

“I guess so”, I muttered under my breath. “Where am I?” I asked

“I'll explain everything, all that matters now is that you're fine” I could tell my mother was worried, the eye bags sold her off

“I'm so happy you're awake Ben, I was worried sick about you”

I turned my neck to the other side of the room and my gaze fell on Caroline

There was nobody else in the room, just my mother and Caroline

“Mom” I released my right hand from my mother's grip and slowly rubbed my forehead, I don't know why I was in such intense pain

“What's the problem, my dear? Do you need something? I've sent for the doctor, please calm down” My mother responded in a panic

“Where's my wife?” I looked up at her

“Where is Rayyan? Why am I here? What's going on?”

“Shhhhhh” my mother placed her index finger against my lips

“Good afternoon Mrs Aries!” A doctor walked in “Woah! I can see you're sitting upright already” A wide smile appeared on his lips and he walked towards me

My mother left the bed, so the doctor could examine me properly. He checked my eyes, and my mouth and used other tools for his examination

Nothing he did seemed important to me, all I wanted to know was where Rayyan was

“Well”, The doctor spoke up, and everyone's attention was on him. “I've checked his vitals, and I must say, Alpha Benedict is very, very strong!”

“I always knew he was going to overcome this, I was certain, Mom I told you” Caroline laughed

“I think he still has a headache” my mother sounded very worried

“Well, that's a side effect…..”

“Side effect of what?” I turned to the doctor, “Can somebody tell me why I'm here and why I'm connected to these machines!” My voice didn't come out as loud as I wanted it be, but they heard me

“Calm down my precious, I'll explain everything I promise” My mother came close again

“And where on earth is Rayyan? Caroline is here; she should be here too, or did she leave to get something?”

“Please sir, I need you to calm down, raising your voice isn't any good for your heart, you know you're still healing” The doctor added

“I still don't know why my heart is your concern and why I have to be strapped to this bed, can someone make this make any sense!”

“She tried to kill you!” Caroline screamed

The room fell into silence. Everyone just stood frozen, exchanging strange glances at each other

The beeping sound of the heart rate scanner washed over the room

I could have said something, but shock and confusion sealed my lips. Who tried to kill me?

“That's a question you should ask them” Don my wolf finally spoke up

“Repeat yourself, but this time be more exact and precise” I focused my eyes on Caroline

“Rayyan tried to kill you!” Caroline repeated herself, but this time she spoke with more confidence

“Mom!” I turned to my mother

“No mother wishes to bury her child, and when it comes to my child, I'll be ready to turn the whole world upside down!”

“What do they mean exactly, I can't connect with her” Don whispered again

I took a deep breath, they were both saying things I couldn't process

“Where is Rayyan now? Can I talk to her?”

“Somewhere outside the walls of this kingdom” Caroline kept throwing direct answers to questions I didn't ask her

Confusion overtook me, I looked over at my mother “Meaning?”

“She has been banished by the elders!”

Rayyan's Pov:

“And who are you?” Prince Aden asked

I was still kneeling, I wasn't sure if I was to stand up

“Are you deaf?” He asked again “Who are you?”

“I'm Rayyan, I'm….I'm…..I'm a maid, your maid”

“Why haven't I seen you before?” The other man asked from inside the library

“I was saved by the Eastern warriors two weeks ago, I'm..I'm..new”

“Well stand up, you don't have to kneel” The man spoke again

I stood up and bowed. When I finally lifted my eyes, my gaze fell on Prince Aden's icy eyes, I wasn't sure if he was angry or that's how he's eyes were

“I'm Cornel, Prince Cornel; I'm Aden's younger brother. Come in Rayyan” Cornel sounded very calm

Prince Aden crashed into the chair behind his desk. He seemed more angry than I thought

“Rayyan where exactly are you from” Cornel asked

“Well….well” That's the thing about lying, I lied once now I had to keep up with the lie

“Why do you keep stuttering!” Prince Aden asked irritated

“Bro, be calm with the young lady, I'm listening Rayyan, where are you from”

“I don't know” I answered in a small voice

“Did you lose your memory or something?” This time there was a hint of pity in Prince Aden's voice

“Something like that” I nodded

“So you're just here as a slave, and you have no one to return to?” Prince Cornel asked

“I don't think it's a good idea, we shouldn't, there's probably another way” Prince Aden tried to dismiss his brother

I just stood there confused about what the brothers were speaking about, still trying to figure out what was the essence of the whole interrogation, until Prince Cornel's words shook me back to reality

“Would you like to be a princess, Aden's princess”
