Benedict's Pov:
"And you only have one duty today! Find your mate" Elder Lawrence declared
"Most especially announce her!" I know Elder Philip couldn't just help but add something to the conversation
"It is most pertinent that you announce your mate, because only then will you be anointed as our head, that's the reason why we've all....." I zoned out.
Left alone I'm certain Elder Lawrence could talk for another year without taking a break. I'm tired already.
I'm tired, tired of all the rituals, the meetings, the pressure, everything! But no one needs to know that I guess.
This preparatory ritual has been going on for over two weeks. Two weeks of preparing to accept the mantle of being the head Alpha. Two weeks of stress, grit, evolvement, and most of all two weeks of intense pressure from these five Elders, my mother and everyone in my lineage.
So many people are looking up to me and I can't let them down, no matter what, but this means pushing myself to the peak.
After ten years the highest title in the pack had finally rotated back to my family and I'm the most fit and proper, but for some reason, I thought the process was going to be easier than this.
And the most annoying part is that I can't seem to find my mate!
"Son!" Elder Frederick's voice was a bit louder than normal
"Yes, Elder" I fixed my gaze on him
"When did you first shift?"
"At sixteen," I said a little above a whisper, if they paid any attention to my demeanour they would've noticed how tired I am
"Good! Now you must exercise your wolf and make sure you're alert today" I nodded to Elder Frederick
"All the Alphas, Gammas and Betas in the whole pack will be at the festival today, and as it has always been the moon Goddess will reveal your mate to you before the end of the festival and you must announce her" Elder Philip had a smile on his lips, it was very weird
"After you find your future Luna, you'll be anointed at your matrimony, and immediately your reign as head Alpha will officially begin," Elder Peter said something after a long silence from him
"Now you must go for your meditation, it's essential for you to understand and follow the direction of the moon goddess"
"Arise!" All the Elders chorus. I stood up and made my way out of the meeting room and into the room prepared for my meditation.
Six Hours Later:
"You look magnificent my child" My mother cupped my cheeks into her palm and showered me with kisses, I could tell she was very excited
"I'm very proud of you my not so little boy" We both laughed
"I'll do anything to make you proud, to make our family proud, to make the entire pack proud"
"Oh, I wish your father was here" Her demeanour changed immediately "But I'm certain he is proud wherever he is" She leaned in again and kissed me
"I'm most certain of that too Mother"
"Now you must be on alert for your mate, she must be here" This mate talk was getting me anxious.
The last time I thought I found my mate was in high school, Monalisa. I was so certain she was my mate, although I had no confirmation whatsoever, it was a nice feeling to be around her.
Well my expectations were smacked away from my heart when she announced her mate on her eighteenth birthday, it wasn't me.
Ever since then, I couldn't seem to understand the signs, neither do I know what exactly to feel or what to expect when I finally meet her
"Don't bother Ben, we've got this" Don my mate assured me "I'm most certain we will find her today"
My mother led me to the main auditorium and announced my presence.
For the first time, I saw the entirety of the Delta pack in its full glory and glamour. There were a thousand more wolves than I expected them to be. I could feel my heart pounding gently behind my chest and all of a sudden I felt sweaty.
"Announcing, the great, the strong, the handsome, the reserved, most powerful selected" His voice became louder "Benedict Aries! Soon to be head Alpha of the great Delta pack!"
I just stood there lost in the thunderous roars of the wolves before me, I felt a bit submerged under their thunderous screams and wails but I didn't let my anxiety show. I kept a straight face and maintained my composure as I was taught, regardless of how I presented myself I felt overwhelmed and anxious.
For the next hour, the pressure on me intensified by a hundred times.
Most of the Men in the pack had complaints and some others had words of advice, they all just had something to say, but the most tension came from the women.
The old women just wanted to introduce me to their daughters and the young ladies all had their cleavage in my face.
My close friend Caroline was the worst, I was surprised by her new attitude, she was all over me with no space to breathe or anything and she kept interjecting in all the conversations the rest ladies tried to form with me.
Soon I found myself in the middle of the hall and everybody had something to say
"You look nice today"
"I should introduce you to my daughter, she's a banker"
"You must put our interest first at all times"
"Are you ready to die for the pack"
"I'm ready to die for you"
At this point I had enough, my breathing increased exceptionally, and the pressure was too much
"Excuse me!" My voice sounded as stern as I wanted it to "I need some fresh air"
"I'll come with you" Caroline held onto my hand
"No!" I saw the way she jerked, I was tired already
I carefully left the gathering and carelessly strolled to the back of the castle for fresh air.
I just breathed, that's all I could do, breathe, deep breathes
"I can feel her around," My wolf said in a small voice
"But there's no one here" I answered
Just then I heard a masculine voice from the opposite direction
"They don't care if we die or not, they treat us like we're captured rogues like we are not part of the pack" The voice was laced with so much pain and I went closer
"The painful part is that this treatment gets worse by the Head Alpha, each increasing the torment and ignoring us more than his predecessor" It was after I heard this I sensed it was Omegas
I listened for five more minutes and finally stepped into the frame
They all ran away, all except her
"There she is" Don announced excitedly
