CHAPTER 3
{Damon’s POV}
“Make sure that he won’t be able to walk for the rest of his life.” I spit out, already on my way outside the dungeon.
“I don’t think they have to do that anymore.” Grayson commented beside me. “You already did quite the beating there.”
As I should. I’ve wasted enough time and energy trying to find him all day and night, and when we did find him, he managed to injure two of my men before we finally managed to capture him. The beating was nothing compared to the trouble he’d caused. If only I didn’t need to squeeze some information out him, I would have snapped his neck already.
We were already thirty minutes away from the packhouse when Grayson decided to break the silence.
“Should we be worried?” He asked, pertaining to the trespasser. “I know that we’ve dealt with a lot of enemies before but this one seemed…strange for some reason. It felt like someone had been watching us.”
I knew Grayson ever since I was born. He was the quiet kid at middle school who barely talk to anyone—the reason why most of them made fun of him. I was homeschooled, but when my parents decided to enroll me, I’d became the new student whom most kids were curious about.
Since my father was the Alpha, I’d got the free ticket to popularity, but that was because they thought I’d be like my older brother, Aiden. He was the ‘cool’ one and every popular kid at high school were his friends. But when they realized that the only similarity, I shared with my brother was our last name, I was quickly neglected and forgotten.
Which I honestly preferred.
And like Grayson, I disliked talking or communicating with anyone. We barely talk but I always felt that deep understanding between the two of us. While others build their connection with words and laughter, Grayson and I built ours through a silent agreement. That’s when I knew that he and I would get along well.
“We had to maximize our security. I want all of my men to be screened in case there’d been a spy or a traitor inside the pack. Also, all of our allies should be informed about this matter in case the same incident happened to them.” My mind went through all of the things I should do before I could even miss or forget anything but even after informing them to Grayson, something still doesn’t feel right. As if I had forgotten something but my mind couldn’t recall what it is.
Whatever it is, it’s making me agitated and anxious because deep down, I knew it wasn’t something small.
When Grayson pulled over in front of the main packhouse, I instantly jumped out and to my surprise, Chase, my gamma was already waiting for me outside. It was almost nighttime and unlike Grayson who often stayed at the packhouse even late at night, you’d never see the day that Chase would miss a night without his mate…until now.
The first thought that came through my head was something must be wrong.
“Is everything alright?” Is there any issue? Did the trespasser escape again? Is there a problem with the pack’s expansion? Negative thoughts clouded my brain, but I forced them off and waited for his answer.
To my relief, he shook his head. “Everything’s fine...” He trailed off as if remembering something. “…with the pack.”
I frowned.
He sighed and a look of disapproval passed through his eyes when he glanced at me for the second time, but it quickly vanished like it never came in the first place.
“I just want to inform you that Luna left a few hours ago.” He finally said but it took a minute before his words registered in my head.
“What are you talking about? What do you mean she left?” I felt my body tensed up for some reason as a sudden wave of dread hit me like a tsunami. “Where did she go?”
It’s almost dark and no matter how heavily guarded my pack is, it’s still dangerous for her to be outside. She could be hurt any second.
Chase gave me a hesitant look. I knew there was something that he wasn’t telling me and it’s increasing the dread I was feeling. I glared at him.
“Chase, I swear if Irish got hurt—”
“She won’t get hurt because she went back to her family’s house at her hometown.” He blurted out, looking slightly panicked. His gray eyes were wide when he spoke again. “She told me to tell you to don’t wait for her. Don’t ask me why. That’s all I know, I promise.” He raised his hand in surrender and even back away.
“Why would Irish go back to her parents’ house?” I voiced out my thought, partly confused and partly angry. As far as I remember, we’re not supposed to visit them until next week and she’s not supposed to go there alone. “Why did she leave without even telling me?”
My mind was too clouded with my racing thoughts when Chase decided to speak again, softer this time but a little hesitant.
“Uhm…Damon, aren’t you forgetting something?” He asked which earned him a glare from me. Can’t he just fvcking tell me instead of making me guess? I have no eat much less sleep and now I have to leave the pack to follow my mate when I should be fixing all the mess that the fvcking trespasser had caused. I have no time for this.
“If you don’t speak right now, I will—”
“Your date was today, right?” He cut me off. “I saw her when I took all your unfinished work at your home. She looked like she’d been waiting for you for hours.”
At first, I was confused but when the realization finally dawned on me, I felt like a bucket of cold ice had been dumped on me.
