Skaila...
Skaila...
“Skaaaaailaaaaa!”
I heard someone shouting my name.
My eyes shot open, and I leant forward, catching my breath.
My body was covered in sweat, and I was panting heavily.
Just when I caught my breath and got a grip on reality, my stupid-ass Uncle Lyan barged into my room glaring at me.
I returned his disdainful look. He had become such an ass ever since my father was put in a coma by rogues when I was 13.
After that, I immediately became alpha of the blood coven, but wouldn’t be able to fully enforce my reign until my 18th birthday, which was the next month, thank the moon goddess. Until then, my uncle made the decisions. He was the beta, but he liked to think he was Alpha.
He spent most of his time ordering my sisters and I around, forcing me to train non-stop and complete any task he thought would be best for our pack.
“Get out.”
“I’m glad to see you’re finally up, princess. Now, if you don’t mind, Hurry Up! I have important news to deliver at breakfast.”
I resisted the urge to smack that hypocritical grin on his face right off as I rolled my eyes.
“Just get the f**k out of my room, Lyan!”
He turned around and left me to change my clothes.
As he shut the door, I sighed and got out of bed, brushing my fingers through my long black hair, which was hard, seeing as my hair was uncombed and wild.
My hair was curly enough to have a nice full-on afro but, I was too lazy to actually take care of it. I preferred to tie it up in what looked like a large bun/ bunny tail.
I walked to my closet and picked out one of the stupid outfits my uncle had bought for me. He had decided he was the only one responsible enough to have control of my father’s immense fortune, so the bastard stole my credit card and has been buying everything for my sisters and I since.
Let me tell you, for someone that is blood-related to my father, their sense of style and parenting was way different.
My father used to let us wear whatever we thought expressed our personalities but, Lyan dressed us like prissy robot lookalikes. I hated it; I hated him.
I’d be so happy when I turned 18.
Finally, I would be fully in control of everything: my pack, my sisters, my money. He would no longer be my legal guardian, and I could finally kick his sorry ass to the curb.
I took a shower and put on the preppy outfit that looked like a purple tennis dress to me.
I put on white docks, combed up my hair, and tied it up with my favorite scrunchie, which had little silver skulls with purple opals for eyes hanging all over it.
My mother made it for me when I was 5, and for some reason, it still looked new. I sighed once more, then tried to sniff out my sisters’ scents, and found that they were all in the dining room already. So, I started heading downstairs.
I reached the dining room and felt a really tense vibe erupting from my sisters as they all awkwardly greeted me. I sat down. The enormous table was full of food.
My stomach growled so loudly, I was sure my sisters could hear it. I was starving but, my sisters had this weird look on their faces, you would think someone had just died.
I shot a suspicious look at Jayde, and she opened her mouth to say something, but before she could, Lyan walked in and interrupted her.
“Well, it’s nice to see the princess has finally decided to join us.” He said.
“Just drop the attitude and tell me what the heck’s going on before I have to find other ways to get the information out of you.”
A dark smirk played out on my face.
“How dare you speak to your elders that way! Have I taught you no manners?”
I kept a straight face. He wasn’t getting any kind of apology on my part.
He smirked at me, mischief in his eyes.
“You have a new mission, Skaila.” He started, pausing a moment to see my reaction, which, at that point, was pretty neutral. Maybe there was a hint of annoyance.
“Well, the Rain pack has had a recent surprise encounter with a pack of rogues that intercepted them on the day of their moon ceremony.”
I yawned as he continued.
I swear this man could talk for days… I wonder how he makes it through listening to himself without falling asleep.
He’d probably make an excellent babysitter…
I chuckled to myself before I turned back to him, feigning interest.
“They had spent months planning it, and there was no way that the rogues could have known exactly where the ceremony was unless someone leaked the whereabouts. Now, they are under suspicion of a rogue double agent, or a treacherous pack member,” Lyan continued.
I yawned as he dragged out his explanation. I poured myself some milk, scooped up some Spanish omelets, and started eating. He sat down as well and continued to talk.
“Well, I thought that the best way for us to aid our allies was by going undercover.” He said with a broad smile on his face and by the time he finished, he had my complete attention.
“I’ve already told them we accept, so you, Xailier, and I are going undercover. You can also bring your bodyguards.”
My eyes widened, then I almost choked on a piece of potato.
“Excuse me! You what?” I yelled.
“Yes, I’ve already accepted and we shall leave tomorrow. They are sending some of their best guards to pick us up at around 6 a.m., pack before then,” he said, still smiling. I just stared at his mouth open as I tried to process what he was saying.
“Why the hell would you agree to something like that? Who gave you the right to accept missions without even asking me first?” I yelled.
“Calm down, Alpha! This is what the rain pack wants us to do so our alliance can remain intact. As your Beta, I know the best way to handle this situation,” he said.
I stayed silent, trying to pull myself together. I glared at him heatedly. This man was a complete headache.
He was always promising to do things like this. I had been an alpha for almost four years, and the only thing I’d ever gotten to decide for myself was who I could date.
I sighed, realizing that getting angry would get me nowhere.
I had to debate between whether to do what was right or what I wanted.
Even though I knew I was going to have to accept, anyway.
“We will meet in about an hour in the office. I expect to see a fully detailed plan for the mission. Go find Xailier and tell him to attend the meeting too,” I said, regaining my posture.
I left the room with my head held high. My appetite was as gone as my patience.

One hour later…
*****
It took me over 20 minutes to finally reach my office from my room. It was at the end of my immense pack house.
My stupid uncle had the whole thing remodeled, and the whole layout was a hot mess.
There were now over 50 rooms, 10 offices, and 3 meeting rooms. They were all so damn separate that even with my wolf abilities, I often got lost. Not to mention, the rooms and offices were in completely opposite locations of the house.
On the way to my office, I calmed down, thinking of a way to change things in my favor.
I was practically smiling as I entered my office.
The only places in the house I could design myself were my room and office. It felt nice to escape my uncle’s monotone decorating. I swear this place looked like a military base.
God, that man was excessively boring.
I looked around my office.
Forest green walls and chestnut hardwood floors covered by a large furry white rug, a midnight black desk sat in the middle, and a large bookshelf full of mortal fiction covered the wall to my left.
I ran my finger over my desk all the way to my Rolling Stone speakers shaped like lips.
Posters of my favorite bands and singers, plastered all over the wall to my right.
The French glass doors behind my desk led to the balcony where I had a mini cherry blossom tree, a black straw two-seater with white cushions, and a glistening white marble tile floor. I sat at my desk, turned on my tablet, and started playing Need for Speed until I heard a knock on my door.
“Come in…”
In walked Xailier, with his hands in his pockets, averting his gaze, followed by my Uncle Lyan, practically oozing self-confidence and poise. Lyan opened his mouth to say something, but I had already heard all that he needed to say.
“If I am going to go on this mission, it will be on my terms. So, Xailier, please do me a favor and pass Lyan my laptop. We are going to make a contract. If either of the signing parties goes against any of the clauses in the contract. I will return here, and you and the rain pack can go f**k yourselves .”
Xailier looked at me, eyebrows raised. I winked at him and shot him a quick smirk as he passed the laptop to my uncle.
My uncle wouldn’t be happy for long.
I could assure you of that...
