Blurb

In the chaos of teenage love, some hearts are drawn together—only to be torn apart by the same hands that sketched them.

Main Characters

Aria Linton

Age: 16 → 26

Artistic, bright, and emotionally guarded. Aria is the “happy soul” of her group — the girl who smiles through storms. Behind her laughter hides a fragile home life and deep insecurities about being “too much” and “never enough.” She believes love is a distraction… until Taylor changes that.

Arc: Learns that love isn’t meant to complete her — it’s meant to teach her who she is.

Taylor Reed

Age: 17 → 30

Quiet, talented, and torn. Taylor is a sketch artist who wears his heart in his art. He has loved Aria silently for years but fumbles when he finally gets her. His fear of losing people makes him cling to Selly — even when it ruins everything.

Arc: Realizes that indecision and dishonesty destroy what love builds.

Selly Hane

Age: 16 → 28

Sharp, beautiful, and dangerously insecure. She hides her jealousy behind her perfect smile. Selly’s “best friend” act masks her obsession with Taylor. When she feels overlooked, she manipulates situations to get attention — even if it means betrayal.

Arc: Her need to be chosen costs her the friendships that truly mattered.

Gold Menson

Aria’s voice of reason — loyal, intuitive, and witty. Always sees through drama but never escapes it completely.

Arc: Learns to stand firm in her convictions, even when loyalty gets complicated.

Ursula Dane

The peacemaker. Gentle, mature, and quietly observant. Ursula helps Aria process pain but hides her own loneliness.

Arc: Realizes that keeping peace sometimes means letting people go.

Maya Trent

Sweet but easily influenced. She starts off close to Aria but drifts toward Selly’s manipulative charm. Later, she dates Josh secretly and becomes a symbol of how fragile friendships can be.

Arc: Faces guilt for choosing comfort over loyalty.

Calvin Brooks

Charming, funny, and surprisingly deep. He’s Aria’s safe space — her friend who understands without words. He harbors feelings for her but never acts on them.

Arc: Finds courage to love again after unrequited affection.

Josh Adams

Playful and chill, the glue that keeps the group from falling apart — until he hides his relationship with Maya.

Arc: Learns that silence can hurt just as much as lies.

Chapter One: Sixteen in the Rain
The rain had just stopped, leaving the world smelling like wet earth and new beginnings. The courtyard of Crestwood High shimmered under a thin film of puddles, and the afternoon light bounced off the soaked pavement like tiny mirrors. Aria Linton tilted her head to the sky, eyes closed, raindrops still clinging to her lashes. She laughed—a bright, carefree sound that could make even the grayest skies blush. Her friends Gold and Ursula danced around her, shoes in hand, hair dripping, their giggles echoing through the empty school yard. It was supposed to be a perfect day. Her sixteenth birthday. “Make a wish, birthday girl!” Gold shouted, tossing a handful of glittery confetti she’d kept hidden in her bag. It stuck to Aria’s wet curls like stars caught in her hair. Aria grinned. “I wish…” She hesitated. What could she possibly wish for? A new set of brushes? A life that didn’t feel so split between laughter at school and silence at home? She blew out the invisible candle anyway. “For something unexpected.” And she got it. From across the courtyard, Taylor Reed stood under the bleachers, watching her. He looked nervous—too nervous for a boy just holding a folded piece of paper. His brown hair was damp, his hoodie darker with rain, and his fingers kept fidgeting with the edge of the card. Aria noticed him eventually. “Hey, Taylor,” she said with a bright wave. “You look like you’re waiting for someone to accuse you of murder.” He laughed, but it was shaky. “Something like that.” “What’s up?” she asked, stepping closer, her sneakers splashing through puddles. He swallowed hard. “I, uh… I wanted to tell you something.” “Oh?” Aria c****d her head, smiling. “Is it about the art project? Because if it’s about—” “It’s not that.” He met her eyes for a brief second, then looked away. “It’s about you.” Aria blinked. The smile slipped from her lips. “Me?” “Yeah. I know you probably don’t think about me like that, but… I really like you. I’ve liked you for a while.” The air shifted. Even the birds seemed to pause. Gold and Ursula exchanged wide-eyed looks in the background, silently screaming. Aria let out a breathy laugh, the kind you give when you don’t know what else to do. “Taylor, you’re… sweet. You really are. But I’m not—” She hesitated, searching for the right words. “I’m not into… love stuff.” Taylor nodded, forcing a small smile. “Yeah. I figured.” “Nothing personal,” she added softly. “I just—have a lot going on.” He nodded again, but this time his eyes gave him away. “It’s okay. I just needed to say it.” And then he walked away, leaving the sound of dripping water and the echo of her name hanging in the air. Aria stood there, confused, her heart tugged by something she didn’t understand. Maybe it was the way his voice had cracked. Maybe it was the fact that he cared—really cared—when she’d convinced herself no one did. Later that night, lying on her bed surrounded by unfinished sketches and smudged charcoal pencils, Aria thought about Taylor’s face. About his voice. About the way her name had sounded like a confession. And for the first time, she wondered what it would be like to be loved by someone who saw her the way he did. ---
