Lauren sat daydreaming while Ms. Frankston droned on about how the prom was going to be cancelled. She imagined she sitting in a daisy filled field. Her golden hair blowing in the slight breeze while the mid-day sun kissed the honey colored skin of her bare shoulders. “It’s such a nice day isn’t it?” A voice softly said. This startled Lauren since she figured she was alone because she was daydreaming. “I’m real, and I’m really here.”, the voice told her. Lauren jumped in her seat which brought her back to the quiet, cold classroom she sat in. Who is this person? How could someone else be in her daydream?
Quietly Lauren sat in her seat thinking about the voice. It was such a soft, sweet voice. She had never heard such a voice since she started going to Creekside high. She didn’t recognize the voice. All of her friends had voices that rang off of the stone walls, and were about as loud as thunder booming. “I need to find who the voice belongs to,” thought Lauren. As the bell rang she gathered her books and all but ran out of the class. “Lauren!!”, her friend Claire shouted. Lauren didn’t hear her. Claire managed to catch up to Lauren, and tried to get her to slow down. “Lauren”, Claire said again. “What’s wrong?” Lauren looked at her friend. “Claire, I’ve found her. I have found the other half of me.”
Claire stopped in her tracks. “Wait, what did you say?” “I’ve found her,” Lauren repeated. Claire gasped. “What? When?!”, she finally managed to ask. Lauren explained the daydream to Claire. “Then I heard the softest, sweetest voice saying she’s right there. That’s she’s real.”, Lauren said. Lauren started walking again, and Claire followed. It was several long moments before Lauren started talking again. “The only thing is I don’t know who she is Claire. This is my mate, and I don’t know who she is.”
