“You, too,” her sister responded, and Rosemary headed out the rear entrance to the store, the one that opened onto the parking lot out back. She took her time going to her car, a ritual she followed to make sure Celeste got everything locked up safely and was able to get in her own vehicle without incident — which she always did, of course. But then her sister started backing her Ford Flex out of its parking space, a signal that it was safe to get on the road. As she headed away from the store, Rosemary’s spirits began to lift somewhat.
